Think you were at the same one as me in ‘87 where anything went. People were climbing into the scrap 40s which also had asbestos in the cabs. Also, the public had unfettered access to the dumped Colwich crash 86s!

Manchester connection. Former Bury unit made class 302 coupled to MK1 SK before scrapping at Marple and Gillot. M25400 was a long resident in the carriage sidings at Redbank. Went into it back in the day and subsequently found it had the condemnation markings of Blue asbestos insulation XB 😱

Did see a lot of the GWR branded RA2, RA original and GWR bespoke on the way back to London. None of the arrow prefixed run in signage across the network though. Plymouth still has the original InterCity sector running in signage.

Used Rail Alphabet in the sheet although as far as I’m aware not carried by the AL6/ Class 86 until TOPS was fully deployed some years later. Also note the early Mk2 restaurant branding also in the manual which was just a notional depiction.

The GWR IET I boarded to go to Cardiff was equally as bad in terms of chunks of paint falling off and rust. Plus the indicators didn’t work so no one knew the coach letters.
