In slowly crawling to him, Astarion felt a sudden pang of buzzing anxiety that made him pause.

Not once in his two centuries as a spawn had he ever had at his mercy a tender neck to suckle, and he worried whether he'd do it wrong. Miss the artery, cause undue pain with his clumsiness… he'd coached virgins on how to stick it in with less fanfare, and yet rankling fear subdued his hunger a little, slowed his approach to a crawl he tried to make look sultry and purposeful.

On his knees with a dagger to his throat, he let himself become sodden and bleating, tipping his chin down so that he gave the effect of looking up at the Warlock, "Yes. And so weak. I can't… think straight. Please."

It was true, after a fashion.

Blessedly, Oleander lowered his dagger and he drew himself up to sitting, pulling his bare knees to his chest.

"You might have told me," Oleander huffed, nearly looking down his nose at him, "What of our pact, hm?"

"And suffer a stake through the ribs? Or worse?" He thought distantly of little mounds of ash dotting scorched earth, and suppressed a shudder.

Oleander regarded him for too-long moments, his gaze level and inscrutable until Astarion felt something like a hook behind his skull and lurched, pain at his temples, at the base of his neck, as something nestled deeply in his head wriggled— his tadpole, traitorous little bleeder, writhing miserably in his skull-meat. It felt keenly like being flayed open, like Oleander had siphoned something raw and tender and twitching from a gash in his mind, and he reeled until that pulling, twisting sensation finally stilled. Oleander's resultant expression of naked pity withered Astarion with shame, and he needn't guess what horrors he'd dredged up, for Oleander finally spoke, "… agony."

His tone was the wellspring of sweet sympathy Astarion had hoped for, that he had craved for tenday upon tenday, and perhaps for two hundred agonizing years. He nearly fell over for how lucky he felt, for how the relief soothed his temper after being spied upon in his own head. He would forgive this intrusion for the gift of blood…

"If I had a little blood, I could…" So very many things. He thought of the sweet, heady rush of it, good blood, thinking blood, stronger, faster, clearer, even the little erotic thrill of twin heartbeats waltzing in rhythm, dizzy, the salt of supple flesh, to hold a warm, pliant body against him as he drank and drank, greedy. Giddy.

"Come here," Oleander said, "I'll feed you."

Astarion nearly moaned.

"I'll have you know, you lanky kisscock, that you can—"

The man was cut short by the sudden exuberance of flame at his collar and Astarion watched his expression bloom from pinched annoyance, to dumb wonder, and finally to wide-eyed panic as the licks of flame spread down over his doublet and licks of it crept to kiss his dark curls.

"I don't like you," Oleander murmured, sun-spot stare conjuring more fulgent sparks along the man's sleeves as he began to flail, then to scream, throwing himself to the dirt to roll and put himself out.

"Fire! I'm on fire, the kisscock lit me on fire!" It came out less as an admonishment and more like a plea; Astarion noticed that his skin had started to blister. "I don't like you," Oleander said again. The flames bellowed and bloated, and the orange glow lit upon Oleander's silvered curls like the kiss of sun, and Astarion thought it rather fetching, indeed.

Oleander's brows knitted together, knife still held aloft to Astarion's throat, and squinted up at him in the dark. He might have asked how that was any better, might have expressed any measure of bewilderment, anything normal, but he only said after a long while, "Open your mouth."

Even after escape, obeisance still felt as natural to Astarion as milk-tongue, even if part of himself shriveled in protest as his mouth fell dutifully open for the little Warlock's inspection. He flinched as the pad of a finger stroked down the length of one of his fangs, lingering at the razor-sharp point, held his breath hoping that it might break skin—

"Are you hungry?" Oleander asked, his tone distant, contemplative, lightly dangerous in how much of his intention it concealed.

Before his eagerness could take him, he laid a soft kiss of apology for the imminent pain on Oleander's fluttering pulse, felt the tensing of muscles, heard a little, delicious inhalation of breath and his eyes rolled back behind his lids before he opened his mouth and sunk his fangs in.

Oh.

It spilled rich and hot over his tongue, filled his mouth and slipped ambrosial down his throat in greedy swallows as he clamped his lips down over the font of it, bit down harder to coax more and more, beyond delectable, beyond beyond. More than the prickle of sun on his bare shoulders, like threading one's fingers with those of the very gods, better than the heightened, frenzied throes of orgasm. Pleasure coursed warm through his limbs and he tumbled gleefully, wantonly into it, a supplicant.

He became distantly aware, as if outside of himself, of the fingers threaded through his curls, warm on his scalp. A palm slid gently up his back, steadying him in his shuddering ecstasy and he drank, and drank.

The night was gone. The boy he held in his arms was but a vessel, foolishly caressing him through his shakes of pleasure as he dragged him down and down, a lamb sighing sweetly in the sharp-toothed maw of a wolf. No sooner than he'd sunk into the heady pleasure of it did an iron grip at his hair wrench him, unwilling, from his ecstasy and he nearly wept for the loss, still so hungry, so sorely needy of that font of wonder beneath his skin.

A few dotty blinks brought the world back into focus; the cool darkness of the tent, the song of night creatures distant on the steady night breeze. He dimly realized that the soulful moaning in his ears was his own, rumbling low from his chest and punctuated by a whine that was so unlike him, he nearly looked askance for a roaming beast in the dim beyond. Something hungry, crying, gutted.

The warlock merely regarded him and breathed, ragged, from parted lips. His eyes were huge, and imparted an intensity that nearly flayed. A hand still gripped Astarion by the hair.

He hadn't realized a rivulet of blood had dripped tacky from the corner of his mouth and down his chin until Oleander closed the distance to taste it with a laving, lingering tongue.

The warlock drew back as if in surprise at himself, his expression fraught with the dressings of fear, trepidation at a tremble in his whitened lips, lingering so close to Astarion's own, his fluttering eyelids, but his pupils were blown wide and dark and wanting.

They shared panting breath in the scant distance between their open mouths before Oleander whispered, "Go."

#soupwrites Sleeping boys, am I right? 🥴😋
The Warlock wore such a darling expression in sleep that Astarion nearly didn't believe it was him, features so softened and rounded that he looked somehow younger. Different. Unburdened. His sour, serious expressions during wakefulness often marred his beauty like bruises on an apple, but not so now. The boy lay in repose as pretty and pure as mythic portraiture; sweet Endymion languid with perfect helplessness, slaking Astarion's desire with an animal darkness he dare not name.

Astarion suddenly felt wretched, bile in his throat, hovering over him like a darkling from a cradle tale, and nearly hesitated but for the hunger that clawed at his throat and the cloying scent of blood that pulled him nearer as if on a lure.

Oleander's night clothes were flimsy and loose; just a billowing white shirt that was wide at the neck, leaving the curve of his throat to his bared shoulder deliciously available to Astarion's itching fangs. Deliciously incongruous with his daily garb, which saw him bundled tightly from his neck to his ankles He drew nearer, and opened his mouth—

"Drink not from thinking creatures," Cazador called to him from the dark, and though he thought the leaden heart in his chest might burst, he resolved with rage, with determination, to disobey. His jaw opened wider, fangs ready to sink into the salt of good flesh, thinking flesh—

Something wickedly sharp bit into Astarion's throat and Oleander was awake of a sudden and facing him, eyes owlish with unmistakable fear, lips whitened and trembling. It took but moments for Astarion to deduce that he had a dagger held to his neck— he considered himself rather lucky, actually; he had watched as Oleander, in the last tenday, immolated a goblin from within and left naught but a pile of greasy ash in his wake, scattered on the winds by an insolent kick from his booted heel as he sauntered onward.

It was always a loaded question, "Are you hungry?"

Cazador often asked that question when his weathervane moods listed toward particularly cruel, the curl of his fingers hooked under Astarion's chin— an opening move in a vicious, cyclical game. Astarion's ever-present hunger bordered always on starvation by cruel design, and his Master well knew it by the sheen of desperation cast over Astarion's eager stare whenever the Master decided, but rarely, on false gestures of tender, stroking mercy rather than violence.

It was a question that always demanded the same answer, deduced by painful trial and error when Astarion had once erroneously demurred that he was not, and was tossed in the kennel for his cheek, flayed alive for days on end.

The correct answer was, "Yes, Master, I am hungry," punctuated by a soppy, imploring look from under his eyelashes, head tilted just so, just the way Master liked.

"Dine with me," Cazador would inevitably say, and he would be brought to his Master's own private chamber and sat at a small table staged, mockingly, for an intimate dinner, lit with merrily flickering candles and elegantly laid with fine china. Always, Cazador would sit opposite him, chin at an indolent rest in his palm, watching with increasing mirth as Astarion was served a stiff rat crawling with maggots, long dead and oozing with the detritus of putrefaction.

The first few times, he had to be compelled.

His limbs moved of their own accord, mouth opened mechanically, his fangs sunk into gummy, putrid flesh, and a wash of the most profane sewage spread chunky over his unwilling tongue. He wanted to retch and couldn't; trapped in the cage of his own flesh piloted effortlessly by the sickly smiling vampire across the table. He was made to wring the thing dry of blood and swallow every viscous drop, every writhing maggot in defiance of his own inwardly wailing disgust.

He was made then to genuflect. To thank his Master. To tell him the he loved him, oh he loved…

#soupwrites Ascended Astarion taught his illiterate consort to read on a lark, and the consequences were unexpected. Or were they? 699 words, rated E (I will elaborate on this snippet later) 📖🕯️
"My treasure has found himself enamored of the library," Astarion had said to the servant, his warm fingers toying idly with the silken curls at Oleander's nape as he bent over a flattened scroll, "Bring more candles."

His tone carried a golden lilt of affection, as if he thought the whole affair irresistibly twee, delighted to entertain this dalliance for however long it suited, having said over and over that he could deny Oleander nothing.

He hadn't realized until much later that he'd spent weeks ensconced in the library, having no inherent need for sleep, food, drink. He found that he could sit unmoving in the same position indefinitely with little consequence, neither stiff of limb nor restless, only his eyes dancing across pages, drinking deep of stanzas when poetry suited him and devouring dense accounts of war when he hungered for bloody history.

Somewhere between the Epic of Gilgeam and The Rise and Fall of Netheril, Astarion came to him in the dark.

Oleander didn't know how long he'd been watching; perhaps moments, perhaps an age, but when he spoke, it was a tether pulling him from the page.

"Will my love spurn me for his books again this night?" His tone was mournful. In the light of the candelabra he held, the lines of his face were exhausted and drawn, gaunt with worry. Oleander said nothing, only gazed at him wide-eyed and chastened like a cat caught with a canary in its claws. He tried to speak, "No, my love, but it's only been moments, only a day—" and naught but a weakened whisper slipped past his open lips. He had inadvertently muted himself, he would discover later; his vocal chords had atrophied after weeks of disuse, weeks of stilled breath and hardly a single swallow.

Astarion was in his robe, a heavily embroidered crimson affair, its opulence contrasting poorly with the grey cast of ennui haunting his features. He pulled it more tightly around himself, as if a chill deviled him, and Oleander realized how bitterly cold the room was, how dry his tongue, how shaky his limbs when he dared a small movement to rise and walk toward him, and slumped heavily against his chair again.

Astarion clicked his tongue, "Dotty little thing, you've not fed in four tendays," he said, humorless and morose, "Look what you've done to yourself, mute and starving. My poor pet." He swept forward, set the candelabra down, and sat himself upon the desk, reaching forward to swipe a warm thumb softly over Oleander's cheek.

He realized with horror that it came away smudged with dust. Astarion looked deeply at him, into him, as if Oleander were a bumbling prodigal child that had wrought him grave humiliation, and sighed, spreading his thighs. He pulled the hem of his robe up and up over the taught, supple expanse of his inner thigh, pearlescent in the candle light. His warm hand cradled the back of Oleander's neck, gently urging him forward. Oleander's mouth met sweet meat there, and his teeth followed, puncturing until a font of blood spilled hot over his wanting tongue.

Astarion stroked and patted him as he drank swallow after swallow, warming from within. "I was silly, you know. Fretting to myself that you had fled me in spite of all these grand indulgences—" He made a little low sound in his throat when Oleander bit down harder, the better to coax more blood into his mouth, his gullet, "—that your devotion had winnowed down to boredom. Oh, how ridiculous I've been. How wonderful it is to know how desperately you need me still."

Later, they made tender, tremulous love in their neglected bed, fraught with the razor's edge of their mutual need. Astarion mouthed at his collar bone hungrily before sinking his teeth in to taste him, coaxing from him a hoarse cry that raked his throat raw. It was only just a taste; he withdrew quickly, licking his lips and savoring the scant dregs, rocking his hips into Oleander almost lazily, still filling him.

"How lucky you are, my heart," He said against Oleander's mouth, "That I am here to temper you against your very worst impulses."

He'd been a vampire for two-hundred years and had never tasted a drop of mortal blood, the thing he craved above all else, even above his own far-flung freedom. Such that when the abduction had snapped his chains and spirited him away from Cazador's dominion, it hardly occurred to him that there was no need to deny himself the pleasure any longer.

He hunted beasts on instinct, stalking them through wooded darkness as his party slept at camp and sated himself on the only paltry quarry that he knew; unthinking fauna that was easy enough to come by and catch in these wilds. At first, he reveled in the primal thrill of it— a true, wild hunt, bounding through the underbrush on light feet in pursuit of prey that could never outrun him, could never struggle free of his powerful grip, that died in shudders and weak bleats that left him blessedly guiltless, though still hungry. Always still hungry.

And then siren song of Oleander's blood had him questioning his methods of dining.

He wouldn't dare drink from the others. The risk to his person was too great; especially when he considered that among their number were a famed monster hunter, a Githyanki warrior, and a cleric who clearly misliked him, judging by her hardened glances and the way her hand naturally rested on the hilt of her dagger in his presence. And there was Gale of Waterdeep. There was always, always Gale of Waterdeep.

"And how many men jammed their sweaty cocks down your throat?"

The Warlock was gifted with uncommon loveliness; a heart-shaped face brought into harmony by small, kittenish features and large, round violet eyes. Even Astarion noticed his own attention frequently listing toward the Warlock's perfect bud mouth— incongruent with the artless filth he spoke from an acid tongue, and the clipped, crass brogue of his Luskanite accent.

It caught him nearly off-guard and he fought to tamp down the visceral sensation of his stomach lurching; he felt almost laid bare, and this made him squirm inside again.

"More than I should like to recall," He said, and the truth felt somewhat ungainly on his liar's tongue, as sour and unpleasant as the experiences themselves.

Oleander turned his head and looked him up and down, appraising him warily with a gaze softened by sympathy; something small and giddy in Astarion fluttered as the ice started to melt. As intolerable as it felt to him in this moment, he willed himself smaller, more tremulous and frail, and though a kernel of truth nestled therein, he settled into the performance of grief as simple as donning a mummer's mask.

"At ease," Oleander said, his tone almost bored, "I thought you were taking the piss…" He had a dangerous cant to his head and a tense coil about him that indicated the consequence of any jape at his expense, before he relaxed with a huff, tucking the flask he'd been holding back into his pocket and flouncing back to lean on his elbows in the grass.

"No," Astarion said, and relaxed into the sincere bitterness in his tone, letting it drip its poison for a moment before continuing, "I think people like us should stick together…" He ground himself stubbornly to the point and forced himself to brighten, "Be at each other's backs. We can protect one another, you and I…"

He held his breath as he watched Oleander indolently consider him with downcast eyes, expression inscrutable as his fingers toyed with tuft…

In all his many decades exploiting desire, Astarion thought that it had a unique distilling quality; stripping all airs to lay bare the raw and real beneath. In most cases, those under the ministrations of his practiced hands and mouth looked to him a bit mewling and stupid, foolish to be hied all giddy by his body and his insipid flirtations to the maw of doom.

Eventually, the slow march of centuries whittled him down to feeling only cold contempt as he worked their bodies mechanically, their tremulous sighs a melody more befitting a dirge.

I love writing Astarion because I get to inject more flippant humor into my prose, I love you Astarion, you fucking suck.
At night, he found himself slinking about camp looking for opportunities to catch him alone, and shockingly found few; Oleander's standoffish nature and hard mien seemed as alluring to the rest of the party as it was to him. He was ever surrounded, even if he looked cross for it, lending a silent ear to a torturous procession of tedium from the others, especially Gale of Waterdeep, who sat too close, smiled too much and too freely, and dared little, inconspicuous touches to Oleander's shoulders and knees in a casual, convivial way that made Astarion wither with something meandering vaguely towards jealousy.

He felt the hungering hunter, hackles raised at another predator caressing his prey with more comely claws; he grew a mote more desperate with each casual encounter he witnessed, vexed by missed opportunities, dashed hopes, carefully laid plans turned to ashes in his mouth.

Once, he spied Gale weaving a shimmering, flashy illusion of ships passing at harbor out of thin air, which drew from Oleander a rare and genuine smile as he watched in wide-eyed wonder. Astarion had made a muffled sound of disgust rather like a cat heaving a hairball and stalked to his tent to sulk until his blood hunger summoned him to the wooded darkness beyond, where he would enact his rage on fauna unlucky enough to cross his path.

Gale of Waterdeep's most impressive trick was being Faerun's most accomplished cockblock.

So to speak.
