Really coming around on that Wild Pink album: I liked it fine on release and now I think everything (other then the title track) is a fucking smash. It might be as good as Dulling the Horns, which is one of my favorite albums of the decade.

Not sure where to jump in on all this, but something something Joe Christmas. Can we get some respect on their name?

Because everything good and bad sat side by side and we didn’t really distinguish until much later so the canon never got built in any meaningful way

remembering some guys, cataloging the shit that didn't suck, mining the depths of a truly bizarre and cool and fucked up era of alternative rock.

Anyways made a collab playlist with a bunch of people a while ago where we tried to compile a bunch of the Cool Weird Christian Rock of the 90s and it was a ton of fun. I listen to it a lot. open.spotify.com/playlist/38e...

The interesting stuff is often a “lesser” version of a sound that was thriving elsewhere, so nobody without a religious upbringing cares, and the people who grew up steeped in it recall everything fondly, as if it was all good because they remember enjoying it.

a Showbread song makin the rounds has me again thinking how impossible it is to talk Christian rock: a lot of it was incredibly weird and cool bc of how cloistered it was, weird mushrooms growing in the absence of outside light. But the stuff people are nostalgic for is such shit
