Kinda reminds me of a theory I saw way back that defense industry projects all have insane cost overruns not because they actually cost that much but because money needs to slosh around that sector otherwise the whole U.S. economy takes a dive

Businesses ran for centuries without spreadsheets. But I think too many businesses are afraid they will fall behind if they don't have some dumb AI making poor decisions for them ASAP.

Some of this parallels the cautionary tale of Often-Wrong-Never-In-Doubt Bill Ackman. This insane mentality that everything needs "outsiders" to blow up and then take over a system. Thinking that "only they" can "fix it". Only managing to make things worse.

The main problem I've found with AI companies I've met with... is that they have a decent tool. But they all feel like they have to make it into an industry-dominating thing. and that if it can't be an industry dominating thing... then it is worthless. Almost like severe inadequacy if they don't.

It's not like people forced them to take debt. Most of them behave like the people are supposed to feel grateful about this. People didn't want this and they repeatedly said so. Now they just want to scare people into accepting their nonsense. It's victim blaming. Tech bro rapist mentality.

I think the financiers are starting to get sweaty over the fact that the industry is still lighting hundreds of billions of dollars on fire with no ROI in sight. Or at least I hope they are, this bubble is only gonna be more ruinous as it gets bigger.

Imagine paying $50 for an all you can eat buffet. The lines a bit long but the food is ok. Now imagine you only pay $20 to go to the buffet. But Each piece of food costs $500 dollars. Drinks are at a different buffet. Same with silverware. Long lines too. Universal vs whatever our healthcare is.

The Silurian hypothesis impacts our search for alien life (the Drake Equation). If industrial civilizations can rise, collapse, and be completely erased from a planet's surface within a few million years, civilization may be a cyclical phenomenon.
