I am opposed to the death penalty, generally. I am particularly appalled by the Pentagon's proposal for a public execution on December 3. Here is the sermon I gave in response to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in July 2024.

I don't defend, deny, or excuse the crime of which the condemned has been convicted. And: the rationale for crucifixion was precisely this. It wasn't an efficient method for execution, it was meant for public display and to send a message. Christians should react with horror, and with action.

Exactly, because Republicans trashed their own idea on the notion that it was a violation of individual liberty...despite the fact that we require insurance in order to purchase a car, for example. Basically, they couldn't stand that a black Democrat would get credit for implementing sound policy.

If memory serves, it did, but was repealed in 2017. But for a time part of our tax return included the form from our provider indicating that we had been insured for the tax year in question.

Then they got cancer or ended up in the emergency room, couldn't pay, and the costs got passed on to the rest of us. The conservative argument was that "personal responsibility" meant everyone was obligated to participate in insurance. Even the tax penalty was originally a Republican idea.

People forget that Obamacare was largely full of Republican ideas. Premiums were high precisely because the risk pool wasn't big enough, because young, healthy people were willing to gamble that occasional care was cheaper than premiums.
