I honestly thought there was a rather poignant metaphor for the marginalized community sellout in Foghorn, someone who debases himself to get laughs but otherwise is clearly differentiated from other cartoons with his manner of speaking and the fact that he speaks at all.

Saw an interview with him where he talked about loading a scene in Barbarian with pre-incident indicators in order to get across the sense of menace women feel around overfamiliar men, followed by "anyways then I have a weird naked lady show up and smash his head in lol. *That's* the horror."

everyone saying "sorry Crystal" is fascinatingly meta because so many of us fell for the same trap Noel did: assuming Crystal would simply react badly to his assholishness, inflict some punitive measure or Device, and the whole thing would be over with.

Benjamin Stevenson's Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone has the detective use the commandments as a means of guiding his investigation. Oddly meta but I recommend reading it, it's a fair play mystery that gives you everything you need to solve it yourself.

i feel like there's a level of self consciousness that is inherent to certain demographics, particularly the Extra Online, but I think being upfront and fortright with liking even the "weird cringe stuff" has paid dividends, so in my experience gen z isn't really that much worse about cringe culture
