How do journalists estimate public opinion? 👀🧠 Our new paper in Journalism (w/ Karolin Soontjens, @kathleenbeckers.bsky.social, David Hopmann & @andreasschuck.bsky.social) shows that many rely on their own views. The more they agree with policy proposals, the more they assume the public does too.

Das hat die PISA-Studie aber nicht erhoben. Erhoben wurde in Selbstauskunft (!), ob sie "die Qualität von gefundenen Online-Informationen beurteilen" können. Da sagen 44% "Ich schaffe das leicht".

Solche "Selbstversuche" gab es in letzter Zeit häufiger: Man legt sich frische TikTok- oder andere Accounts an und schaut, welche Inhalte man bekommt. Weil dann oft fragwürdiger Kram dabei ist, wird Radikalisierung vermutet und Alarm geschlagen. Ich halte davon wenig. Gründe 👇
