Also still in my WC draft however I’m debating if it’s going to be a wasted 2 transfers after the WC. One to replace him & one to get him back later. Instead of just one to get him back when fully fit.

True that he scored 22 goals last season however is it a case of 2nd season syndrome like Michu or Pukki? I am beginning to think about offloading JP until he proves to be fully fit otherwise it’s just 7.7 well 7.6 sitting on my bench.

🌀 Optimal VALUE Squad 📣 GW5 Update 5️⃣ GWs in. The Squad is already telling us a few stories 👀 The biggest one? The early-season punts are being flushed out. The squad formation has shifted from 4-5-1 to 5-3-2. Tzolakis looks like an anomaly and 5 GWs is still a tiny sample.

Fair point & I’ll take it onboard. My dilemma is what is the criteria for picking the captain? Most picked captain each GW. Or highest probability of scoring. Or other. Open to ideas.

GW2 & things have already moved. 👀 After just one more GW, the optimal squad has gone from 148 → 221 pts. The formation remains 4-5-1, but there are 6 changes to the starting XI. OUT: De Cuyper, Mendy, Kayode, Hinshelwood, Stach & Gakpo IN: Calafiori, Tarkowski, Fernandes, Cherki, Saka & Wissa

One key distinction: this optimises points per player, not captaincy. We're not saying "here's who you should've captained every week." We're asking: "given what we know now, what's the optimal 15-man squad?" No hindsight captaincy wizardry. 🪄

"Looks like the official Team of the Week..." But under the hood it's Excel Solver optimizing across the whole season, not a single-GW snapshot. 📸 AND for the full squad NOT just the starting XI.

GW1 is a tiny sample. As GWs stack up, the data gets more meaningful and the optimal 15 should settle into something very different from this. That's the objective. 👀

One extra layer: the budget isn't fixed at £100m all season. It tracks the average FPL manager's total team value (squad + bank) week by week — rising through autumn, peaking around GW17-18, then drifting back down. Spending power moves with the real FPL population. 📈

What are we doing here?⤴️ Take current FPL prices + last season's points → find the optimal 15-man squad. After each GW, it updates using points banked so far. 11 starters, 4 bench, £100m budget, no captains.

This is GW38 from last season — the illustrative starting graphic for this series. No Haaland. No Bruno. Not a typo. ✍️ After GW2’s performance, going without those two FPL stalwarts takes some courage. Optimal 15-man squad: 5-3-2, 1,994 pts from the starting XI.
