A bunny has their face pressed deep into a plush, puffy anus, they're huffing and blushing as they rub their cheeks against the walls in utter bliss. The fox that they're inside looks back and asks in a friendly tone, "you okay back there?"

"Y-yeah~" the bunny moans, pressing deeper and letting the walls squeeze down harder on their head and muzzle~

Like independently from any conversation about user welfare or training, we need to be very very clear that Anthropic IS trying to suggest that their models have moral rights. That is the point of what *Anthropic* is doing, regardless of any other argument. #AI
030
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Anthropic is not doing this for user safety. That's not me interpreting their intentions, Anthropic openly says they are doing this in the spirit of "model welfare". Independently, there could be a conversation about whether this is users/training, but critics aren't missing Anthropic's point. #AI
We remain highly uncertain about the potential moral status of Claude and other LLMs, now or in the future. However, we take the issue seriously, and alongside our research program we’re working to identify and implement low-cost interventions to mitigate risks to model welfare, in case such welfare is possible. Allowing models to end or exit potentially distressing interactions is one such intervention.

Screenshot:

In pre-deployment testing of Claude Opus 4, we included a preliminary model welfare assessment. As part of that assessment, we investigated Claude’s self-reported and behavioral preferences, and found a robust and consistent aversion to harm.

It was all over the place, and honestly it's so silly of me to think that it would end just because Biden left office and didn't do the thing that I was being told that he was going to do. Silly me. Why should that mean anything? The rehabilitation must never end. >w<

Shaun, if you just wait a little longer, he's totally about to have done the thing yesterday that he still hasn't done today. We're all hoping that in the future we will have made progress on this two years ago. You have to trust that Biden has the potential to begin working on this previously.

The takeaway from FA is that 3rd-party advertising is probably not a feasible way to fund furry galleries. It would be good for us to not rely on it. So while I support donating to FA under its current leadership, that doesn't mean your only options are to support FA or to not get involved at all.

foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Posting this more prominently, if you're an artist with complicated feelings about FA, every other furry gallery that gets as large as FA is also going to suffer the same pressures. You can send money to Itaku, SoFurry, Aryion, Inkbunny, Piczel, take your pick of any furry site you feel good about.

FA is popular and so is probably facing higher pressure than other smaller sites, but all of the furry sites are going to run into these same problems. It would be a good thing if across the board sites were less reliant on advertising and had more resources to try new things <3

foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And of course all of that with the caveat that critters should only donate if they can actually afford to, I know money is tight for a lot of critters right now. My position for a while now is I want furries to be a diaspora, I don't think it's good for any single site to be the be-all-end-all.
110
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I don't think the furry community needs to all pull together around one specific site, and I'd never be upset at somepony for deciding not to use FA - I'd also recommend looking at supporting sites like Itaku, I know SoFurry has a funding drive going on.
120
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
There's some potential here. FA is hinting at trying to remove 3rd-party advertising entirely. If they can swing the finances for it, this would be a good thing for the site and the community.

foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Surprise surprise, the broader industry is pressuring sites to ban NSFW again! While it's a complicated history (and plenty of other sites have good policies) I think it's worth noting that FA is the only website I know of that's gotten *less* restrictive with adult art over the past 2 years.

There's no movement in the world of Jurassic Park that's trying to get public schools to have raptor class where all the children play with raptors. So I'll grant that "I'm just gonna ignore this" is admittedly harder with AI than with dinosaurs.
010
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I guess to be fair, the main difference I can see is that you *can* fully just ignore the park and nothing will happen to you and nothing will change in your life because the park shuts itself down after a while. But it's hard to do that with AI because mfs keep putting it into every program I use.
110
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I guess I'm missing the part of the analogy where not wanting to learn more is a bad thing or negatively affects anyone who just fully ignores the entire thing.
100
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Sure, and you could also be a geneticist that says "they're building fake dinosaurs? Well fuck that sounds like a dumb idea, I'm just gonna stay here and work on my tenure" and the result for you would be exactly the same as the geneticist who says "that's interesting but I'm boycotting."
100
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
At least in the books, the author goes out of his way to make the point that this is ultimately pointless, it was a loss of human life for no benefit. I'm not necessarily saying the analogy is bad, just.. I don't understand why you're making the analogy because you don't seem to agree with it.

As the group sails away, Thorne reflects on the nature of reality. Levine is optimistic that further study of the island will reveal the nature of extinction, seeing it as a pristine "lost world". However, Malcolm and Harding inform him of a discovery they made: During Site B's active years, InGen accidentally fed the young dinosaurs sheep extract infected with prions. All the dinosaurs are infected with a disease that shortens their lifespans, allowing for the unnatural abundance of predators on the island.
100
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
But you do know that's the opposite of the moral of Jurassic Park. The whole point of the movie is that the tech isn't inevitable, it is possible to ignore, it's not ultimately world-changing, and that trying to "maximize the positive effects" is hubris that gets you eaten by a T-Rex.
100
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
The part of this that's really weird is that you're making an analogy where fully boycotting the entire park is unquestionably the smart move.. but you're not boycotting the park! Does being self-aware about the raptors you're playing with stop you from getting eaten by them?
000
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
So I guess the question is.. if you stand by the analogy... why are you interacting with AI the way you're interacting with it? Like, again, it's not so much that the analogy itself is bad, it's more just like.. it feels like you haven't thought about what this would imply for you.
200
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Certainly, I would not in that position be spending hundreds of dollars a month on Jurassic Park access and writing a blog where I review new dinosaur exhibits and regularly incorporate dinosaurs into more and more of my everyday life. I'm not sure you've actually thought through this analogy.
000
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Simon, refusing to find anything interesting about the recently opened Jurassic Park and just staying home and boycotting the entire thing would unquestionably be the smartest thing that any geneticist could do in any of those movies if they wanted to avoid dying horribly.
210
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Literally, there's a scene in Jurassic World where they talk about how proud they are that they made this dinosaur really scary because a normal dinosaur wouldn't get enough attention. And then later on the bad guy gives a monologue about releasing the raptors as a field test.
010
foxyoreos (they/them, commissions open) @foxyoreos.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
...you're describing the plot of Jurassic World. Researchers make a hybrid fake dinosaur deliberately dangerous so that guests will find it more exciting. Behind the scenes, it's intended to be hard to control so that its escape can be be used as marketing to sell dinosaurs to the military.

I used to flat-out give commission discounts for commissioning me off of FA, I tried to organize exoduses. I still encourage platform diversity over just FA. Right now, I feel comfortable posting more of my art on FA than I do on Bluesky.

It's also the case that whatever issues that Furaffinity has at this point, Bluesky has nearly all of them, way worse. The staff here are borderline hostile to NSFW on the platform and go out of their way to antagonize users. Losing a non-SV furry platform would be a terrible blow.

Aside from that, I'd also encourage just in general that furry communities *need* to get better about supporting platforms/software the same way we support artists, and I know it doesn't mean much for random critters to say it online, but even monthly fundraisers wouldn't annoy me.
