I'm making a cross stitch for my sister in law's birthday (she's not on here, don't tell her) and I thought it might be neat to document the process and see how long it takes. This is day 1. made some initial progress while watching Enemy of the State. Hopefully the design becomes obvious soon?

Black cross stitch fabric in a hoop. There are a few stitches with a light colored thread. The subject of the cross stitch isn't apparent, but the threads on there are roughly laid out in the shape of...I dunno, maybe the parts of maryland west of the Chesapeake bay? The subject isn't maryland.

for the first time in two and a half years, a new note was played in this organ performance today!

Organ²/ASLSP (As Slow as Possible) is a musical piece by John Cage.[1]

An organ in St. Burchardi church in Halberstadt in 2001 began a performance that is due to end in 2640. This makes it the longest running non-computerized piece currently being performed.

one of my favorite arto quotes about his early no-wave/DNA days was (paraphrasing), "every new punk release was bigger and louder and sonically brasher than the last, so I thought, 'why not make the biggest, loudest, brashest thing possible?'. Turns out that's not what most punk fans wanted!"

This is an underrated perk of biking as transportation - you're forced to learn where to go because you can't check directions easily as you ride, but you're also forced to learn 4-5 other ways to get there in case the way you'd go in a car (or get there with google) isn't really safe for bikes

I think about this a lot with regards to concert ticket pricing for DIY musicians

screenshot of text that reads as follows: MacKaye didn’t fall short on the idea of a low cover charge after Minor Threat came to a close. Forming Fugazi in 1987, he set the ground rules whereby they only played at all-ages shows and always stuck to a $5 cover charge. Their logic being, $5 was affordable to most and meant the person working the door didn’t have to make change.

Screenshot of the Inflation Calculator from usinflationcalculator.com. It reads: The U.S. Inflation Calculator measures the dollar's purchasing power over time. Inflation Calculator: If in 1987 (enter year) I purchased an item for $5.00 then in 2026 (enter year) that same item would cost: $14.75. Cumulative rate of inflation: 195.0%
