I don't think this is true. It leaves out so many great artists. There is no reason to leave out those who are unable to be healthy and well adjusted. The sick, unhealthy, and maladjusted make great art too.

Suffering is the primary thing that motivates my creativity. My own suffering and that of others & the world. Or so I think. I am maybe wrong about what moves me, since I do not believe in a self of any kind, what would I know about what moves me? I like about 33.33% of what David Lynch says.

I’m a dancing marionette being tortured by the puppet-master. One of the worst things about having my disease is that it causes seriously insane restless legs at night. I can’t sleep with my legs moving constantly. WTH #puppet #restlesslegs #bodyhorror

~Thomas Ligotti (Screenshot quote from The Conspiracy Against the Human Race. See ALT text to copy quote.) #thomasligotti #pessimism #philosophicalpessimism #puppets #puppettheater #ArthurSchopenhauer #schopenhauer

“Schopenhauer’s is a great pessimism, not least because it reveals a signature motif of the pessimistic imagination. As indicated, Schopenhauer’s insights are yoked to a philosophical superstructure centered on the Will, or the Will-to-live—a blind, deaf, and dumb force that rouses human beings to their detriment. While Schopenhauer’s system of thought is as impossible to swallow as that of any other systematic philosopher, no intelligent person can fail to see that every living thing behaves exactly in conformity with his philosophy in its liberal articulation. Wound up like toys by some force—call it Will, élan vital, anima mundi, physiological or psychological processes, nature, or whatever—organisms go on running as they are bidden until they run down. In pessimistic philosophies only the force is real, not the things activated by it. They are only puppets, and if they have consciousness may mistakenly believe they are self-winding persons who are making a go of it on their own.”

~Thomas Ligotti, TCATHR

Sometimes I just don't know about the fedi-verse. How long will an instance stay afloat? It depends only on one person. Sometimes, my profile just isn't available. #fediverse #nervous

“We are not nihilistic towards life - it is life that is nihilistic towards us. It is life that denies us, expels us, and kills us. Do we not want to live intensely and forever? Are we the ones denying life? Is it not life that denies us day by day?” ~Julio Cabrera #philosophy #pessimism
