I don't remember where I came across this, but I rediscovered it on my phone & it seems like apt words going into the new year. Remember that hope is an ugly, durable thing. Keep enduring, we can make the world better so long as we're here & willing to try for it.

Hope is not a bird, Emily, its a sewer rat. Hope is not a thing with feathers that comes home to roost when you need it most. Hope is an ugly thing with claws and teeth and patch fur that's seen some shit. It's what thrives in the discards and survives in the ugliest parts of our world, able to find a way to go on when nothing else can even find a way in. It's the gritty, nasty little carrier of such diseases as optimism, persistence, perseverance, and joy, transmisible as it drags its tail across your path and bites you in the ass. Hope is not some delicate, beautiful bird, Emily. It's a lowly little sewer rat that snorts pesticides like they were lines of coke and still shows up on time to work the next day looking no worse for wear.

Got this from my sister (dunno where she got it), and yeah... there's a reason I've taken a deliberate pass on most live action remakes in the last 15ish years.

How to Train Your Dragon live action makes me irrationally angry. Everyone is screaming about how good it is. Yeah because it's a shot for shot remake. The original was good. They just made the same movie with worse visuals. I hate it here.

LITERALLY IT MAKES ME SO UPSET. 'But it looks good' so did the original. 'The graphics are better' its soulless slop. The original has some of the best shape language of any animated movie and I'm not kidding. Why do people hate animation? Fuck you fuck you fuck you

I'm still salty about Anthem. That game had so much potential & it all got wasted with development that didn't know what it was doing for ages & then having live service smoushed into it. Given how the trailer was received, this is certainly a brave choice on their part.
