I won't spoil the ending, but it's a brilliant, horrifying shift in perspective that reframes everything that came before. (It makes a second watch especially rewarding.) All my favorite games and stories surprise you this way: they give you a piece of information that changes everything.
A woman looks beatifically toward the sky, orange light framing her head.

At one point early in the film, Amanda quips, "no one sees what they don't want to." For me, this is the thesis statement of Saint Maud. The camera shows us the desolate, oppressive life that brought Maud to her belief, then shows how, if we take what she sees at face value, she's proven right.
A woman stands facing the wall of a small apartment, glowing wings emerging from her back.

Ben // foresight studio @foresightstudio.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Eventually, supernatural elements begin to infiltrate the narrative. We witness divine guidance and satanic possession, and it's incredibly effective because we're trapped in Maud's head. It doesn't matter what's real and what isn't, because this is what her faith tells her.
A woman floats facing the ceiling in a dingy apartment, back arched, eyes closed and arms extended.

Naturally, Maud makes it her mission to save Amanda's soul. As her attempt to play savior continues, Maud grows more desperate, more certain that if she suffers enough in the right ways, God will guide her hand, and will inevitably lead her ward to salvation. It goes very poorly.
Maud, a young woman, looks afraid and hurt as several figures wrap her head and shoulders in cloths and ribbon to make her look like a stereotypical Christian saint.

Ben // foresight studio @foresightstudio.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
For one thing, she hears God's voice. She says it sometimes feels like God's "in me or around me." A "shiver," a warm "pulsing." (yes, it's Like That.) For another, she's a recent convert. While it's never fully addressed, something awful happened at her last job, and it drove her down this path.
Maud lays against the landing of a green-carpeted staircase, wearing a black and red checkered sweater. Her hair is spread out behind her and her hands clutch her face, in ecstasy.

Ben // foresight studio @foresightstudio.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Maud is a home hospice nurse sent to care for Amanda Köhl, a dancer and choreographer who has spinal lymphoma. They're a study in contrasts, Maud devout and straitlaced, Amanda hedonistic and expressive. From the start, there are hints that Maud's relationship to God is... a touch unconventional.
A woman in a beanie and gray robe sits on a blue couch with a wooden tray in front of her, her hands clasped in prayer but her eyes looking to the right of the frame, where a younger woman with a sharp middle part, light blue uniform, and brown cardigan prays with her head down and eyes closed.

The leaves are changing, the skies are gray, and that can only mean one thing: Haunt-Along! My first Haunt-Along pick is Saint Maud, a delightfully unsettling piece of religious horror from director Rose Glass. It's about loneliness, faith, guilt, and a little bit of murder.
A close-up shot of two women's faces close to one another. One woman is reclining, and the other stands over her, a hand on her face, dimly lit by a warm light from offscreen.

Designs not final but here's a closer look at those cards :)
A mockup of four tarot cards floating against a rough gradient. On top is "XXI - Judgement", featuring three eyes stacked on top of one another with a beam of light descending from the bottom. Second is "XVII - The Star," featuring a ring of light at the top and three small glowing dots toward the bottom. Below is "IX - The Hermit", featuring a cloth-like/candle-like figure with a glowing light hovering above it. At the bottom is a draft of the card back, all black with a thin white border and a vertical line of phases of the moon.

Super excited that The Firmament is officially a Kickstarter Project We Love!! And I put together a new banner image featuring some previews of the card designs. Follow the campaign & see more at ttrpg.fund/firmament!
The banner for a kickstarter page for a game called The Firmament. A book floats on the left side of the image against a glowing, grimy gradient with a faint grid overlaid on it. The book features a large white hand reaching up toward the title at the top. On the right side of the image, four tarot cards fall from above, glowing faintly. The most obviously visible one features three eyes looking different directions. The title of the game is written in white text across the bottom of the image.

Take the role of a Child of Heaven, one of seven divine beings dreamed into existence by Mother. A game of The Firmament changes based on which Children are in play: different parts of the world are revealed, and the rules respond (sometimes in pretty major ways)
A dark background with nebula-like blotches of color and a faint grid overlaid on it. In the center, a blurry humanoid figure made up of choppy white lines is surrounded by a glowing pale blue ring, in which two faces are visible on the left and right. The humanoid figure's head is framed by an iris-like halo of pale white and blue with rust-like red splotchy inner ring. In an arc around the halo are seven white icons representing the seven children of heaven.

Yesterday was session zero for a brindlewood hack my friend is running where you play as a group of ghosts in the bureaucratic afterlife attempting to find the serial killer that murdered you & I'm very very excited
A booklet with a series of rectangular pictures and the title "Unfinished Business" sits on top of a light green character sheet that is designed to look like a coroner's report, on top of a manila folder stamped with the word "decreased" in red. A small transparent tube of bone-like white spherical beads sits on top of the character sheet to the right of the booklet.

Pre-save the firmament!!! it's gonna be extremely cool to hold and even cooler to play (plus i've consulted the Oracle and they're saying there might be a box set? with a custom tarot deck? and altar cloth? and a mysterious metal coin ??) www.kickstarter.com/projects/for...

Trifold spotted at the county fair. this kid knows what's up
A trifold as part of a 4-H exhibit at the local fair. In the background is a white wall with 4-H penants, and in the foreground is the trifold poster, featuring the text "Level Up Through Roleplaying Games." It features some blocks of text about RPGs and their benefits. On the table in front of it is a collection of large polyhedral dice, pencils, and character sheets.Types of RPGs. There are lots of different kinds of RPGs. Some of the most famous are "Dungeons & Dragons" (D&D) and "Pathfinder". You can find RPGs of almost any genre, so if you don't like the first one you try, there are plenty of others.

Do you like Angel's Egg, Evangelion, The Vorrh, kabbalah, or GMless/diceless games that still have some crunch? You'll probably like The Firmament. Updated playtest available for folks interested in giving feedback/reviewing/APs/etc! If that sounds like you, let me know: forms.gle/fUtq1zozWSya...
A Y2K-esque square image featuring a grimy purple/blue/green gradient in the background, with a faint grid overlaid on it. In the center of the image, a pair of slightly pixelated hands cup a red moon-like planet, with a pale glowing circle and radiating spikes on its upper right aspect. At the top of the image in glowing white letters, it reads: the fate of heaven is in your hands. Below the hands is the stylized title of the thing being advertised, "The Firmament, a tarot ttrpg of divinity & desperation." Along the left side of the image turned sideways are a series of icons and white text, including "1-7 players, no GM, human-made" and "Foresight Studio."

Went to look at some art yesterday and it's crazy how Norman Rockwell was doing his whole deal while his close artist friends & local contemporaries were Expressing Ideas
The 1938 painting "pine tree," by John Carlton Atherton. The painting uses trompe l'oeil to appear as a canvas pinned to a wooden board. On the canvas is painted a night scene of a small town, dominated by a house that's either falling apart or under construction. The right half of the "canvas" is covered by another arch-shaped piece of painted-on canvas bearing an image of a tree against a blue sky in the daytime.

Large black text in serif italic font sits on a white background above a mockup of two open books, overlapping one another. The books show different pages from a TTRPG called "The Firmament." The one in the back shows a left-hand page that's mostly white titled "Cycle," with steps A through E visible, though the rest of the text is too small to read. On the right-hand page is a diagram of play. The front book shows a left-hand page that's a pixelated image of falling blank white cards glowing slightly, with the word "Spreads" at the bottom in white. The right-hand page shows text on a white background, titled "Spreads," with text that's too small to read below that. Overlaid on the image is a spiky worm thing that swoops from beneath the front book, interweaves with the "Get the demo" text at the top, and returns behind the back book. So far, one of my favorite things about playtesting The Firmament has been the wild characters everyone's making. Like look at this guy!! And this was in a game where one PC was sentient sound waves, and another appeared only in dreams (character sheet doodle from @nanelsonart.bsky.social)
A screenshot of the front of a character sheet for the game The Firmament, labeled Architect. After 3 years and a few updates, it's finally in print! DO/OMED is a TTRPG of reincarnation and existential exploration in a world that's falling apart, built on the Breathless system by @rpdeshaies.farirpgs.com

The cover of the zine is black with staticky noise, has the title in glitchy white font at the top, and under the title it says Reveal, Remember, Revive. The pages are black, and the left hand page has white text too small to read. It has a series of gradually fading circles emanating from it.A hand holds the ttrpg DO/OMED, showing the back cover, which is black and has two large slightly overlapping white rings on it. In the rings is the text "nothing survives outside the dome. Yet. We have received a signal. Find it." Beneath that is some small white text that says, "outside of sanctuary, the last traces of humanity crumble to dust. You have been chosen to leave the dome and pursue a strange beacon to the distant south. But do not fear death: sanctuary will ensure your name lives on. A ttrpg of existential exploration for a Guide and 1-5 players." Beneath that is a barcode and some icons indicating the game is for 2-6 players, requires polyhedral dice, and is human-made.

learn to play The Firmament in 6 e̵̮̦̫͠ḁ̶̥͊̐̿̀̍̀̕ś̶̡y̵̨͍͚̦̰͔̝͝ͅ steps!!
A somewhat cryptic diagram of play showing how to play a game called The Firmament. It features black icons on a white background, labeled A thru F. It begins with a white circle overlapping a black circle next to a depiction of a square tunnel with an arrow descending from it. The arrow points to a large circle, at the top of which is a deck of cards. One is being drawn with an arrow pointing to a tarot spread in the center of the circle. At 3 o'clock on the circle are three cards, with an eye pointing toward the one on the center. At the bottom, 6 o'clock, is a card surrounded by a ring of spikes. At the left side, 9 o'clock, is a box with a greater-than-or-equal-to symbol and the number 10. This cycles back to the top of the circle. It also has a dotted line descending from it pointing to the bottom of the image, where a row of 4 cards each has a different symbol representing one of the tarot suits, followed by a bold X. The line then continues off the bottom of the image.

Map of the known universe (WIP for The Firmament)
A black background with a faint white grid overlaid on it. On the background is a grainy, scribbly illustration of a blue/pink/green plane, light shining down from it. In the middle of this top plane is a translucent blue arch with an infinity symbol in it. Below is a greenish-yellow grainy dome, with a glowing yellowish blob on it. It has root-like greenish structures coming off the bottom, and a faint blue ripple beneath it. There is a moon and a sun overlaid on the dome, and the space between the top plane and the dome is surrounded with a white box. I don't really feel like counting anymore so here's some more things i like: the geometric ornaments getting more intense as the layers of TV Odyssey are described; the Play Structure cover page; how the border details sometimes interact with the art on the page.
A bit of a page from TTRPG Public Access, featuring a white box with some text visible. The box is punctuated by black lines, and the black background behind it has white lines that trace out an arc and some pointy upside-down mountain-like figures, and a circle sitting on the arc where it intersects the bottom border of the page.White messed up and glowing text that says "Play Structure" in white. More wiggly messed up text is in green, fully illegible, on the black background behind it.A screenshot of page from the TTRPG Public Access featuring the back of a person's head, upside down, reflected. In the middle of the O is a cross-shaped lens flare. Behind the text is part of a black page with two silhouetted figures walking into a white triangle, but the image is cut off.

Everyone should do this!! Will Jobst helped me survive the Humblizer™️
A draft cover of TTRPG "The Firmament," featuring white title text in a serif font at the top, followed by my name, Ben Mansky. In the center is a large opalescent hand reaching upward, with a sketch of a spinal-cord-looking thing spiraling around it and weaving over the ring finger until it exits the page at the top. The background is a grimy, dark gradient in black, green, pink and blue with a faint grid superimposed on it.

To commemorate the end of a great campaign of The Silt Verses RPG, here's a little catalog of character sheet doodles
A sketch of a woman with long wavy hair from the shoulders up, looking to the right, with a crown floating above her head. The sketch is tucked between areas on a character sheet, and a bunch of eyes are doodled in the upper right.A sketch of a bald, somewhat alien-like creature with wings, a halo, an extremely skinny horse, and an exposed pole or spine thing connecting torso to lower body. A ribbon snakes its way around one arm and behind the head. It is squeezed between sections of a character sheet.A sketch of a beatific winged figure in a cloak resembling a nun's habit, a throned halo floating above its head. An opening begins at its clavicle and descends, exposing the vague idea of organs behind draped cloth.A sketch of a bony horned demon thing with a mask hovering in front of its face staring at a glowing rectangle that looks vaguely like a smartphone.

A stack of three books on a wooden bench. The books are: Logo Modernism, Grid Systems/Raster Systeme, and Graphic Design for Board Games.
