That is nice, but not all of us can celebrate much less play basketball in the face of such heinous atrocities I think the world needs to take a long look at how the capitalization of sports—the Olympics, the recent Men’s World Cup, everything else—is employed to whitewash the horrors of humanity

Whiteness is itself a social construct, but you can find Christians enslaving people of various skin tones (even in the 19c US, some enslaved people were visually “white” but treated as “black” because of the one drop rule) The beginnings of the trans-Atlantic slavery was also based on religion

But progress for some is not always progress for all, and as oppression grows and formerly marginalized groups take up the banner of repression, I am reminded of the wisdom of Emma Goldman:
Needless to say, I am not opposed to woman suffrage on the conventional ground that she is not equal to it. I see neither physical, psychological, nor mental reasons why woman should not have the equal right to vote with man. But that can not possibly blind me to the absurd notion that woman will accomplish that wherein man has failed. If she would not make things worse, she certainly could not make them better. To assume, therefore, that she would succeed in purifying something which is not susceptible of purification, is to credit her with supernatural powers. Since woman’s greatest misfortune has been that she was looked upon as either angel or devil, her true salvation lies in being placed on earth; namely, in being considered human, and therefore subject to all human follies and mistakes. Are we, then, to believe that two errors will make a right? Are we to assume that the poison already inherent in politics will be decreased, if women were to enter the political arena? The most ardent suffragists would hardly maintain such a folly.

Such an important point! We can also recognize there is a difference between fighting against exclusion and becoming part of the system when it comes to voting — I’m thinking of those like Emma Goldman and others who saw repression in suffrage as well

Definitely not — I’ve never blocked anyone, and certainly wouldn’t in this case. If there was some sort of misunderstanding, happy to clear it up. Appreciated the book recommendation even if it was one I didn’t absolutely love.

It always pains me to say it, but without the terroristic tactics by Trump & ICE, a large portion of the American public wouldn’t give a damn about the violent carceral state… Out of sight, out of mind is their mantra That won’t work for me… Abolish ICE; Blur The Border; Free Us From This Prison

For a person who knew, she sure looks comfortable around fascists and giving them the veneer of authority Maybe it isn’t Trump, but the entire imperialist military-industrial state that needs to go?

You can think chickens are food without seeing them as being inferior — many cultures do. Indeed, that is part of the beauty I find in one of Khalil Gibran’s poems on eating Being a carnivore and a human supremacist are not the same thing

In terms of morals, I don’t know your capacities or choices, though I certainly won’t hold your lack thereof against you Just saying in a fashion that ‘chickens are decent people,’ sort of a rift on a George Carlin bit

So true! Reminds me of the closing arguments in the Old Drum case (1870)
