@debsadelight.bsky.social ill have to tell you Grandpa’s story - it’s quite remarkable - he ran away from a tiny Welsh mining village because he didn’t want to be a sheep farmer or coal miner and went to London with £5 in his pocket and a dream to become a doctor.

My Grandfather serving as a Medical Officer taken at El Alamein in WW2. He was a very tall man who went on to be a GP in rural Oxfordshire for 35 years after the war. He was one of the first medical officers to arrive at Belsen.

Delighted to have been sent a limited edition first print of a book by the author today - the cover design and binding are simply stunning. The picture doesn't do it justice.

I have reached peak middle age. Took the kids to a fun fair and instead of thinking “that looks fun” I’m thinking “I wonder that was last inspected for health and safety”. Where’s my pipe and slippers?

Two weeks ago I put TCP on a cut on my thumb. I’ve showered daily and washed my hands countless times and I can still smell TCP. That stuff would survive a nuclear holocaust I swear.

Went into the lake in my waders to rescue a duck that had been injured by a group of teenagers with stones and rocks. A wonderful lady from Swan Support UK has taken him into their care and I hope he recovers. What I’d like to do the youths isn’t publishable.

In Japan it’s considered the height of rudeness to have a phone conversation on the train or public transport. Yesterday on the way back from London the whole carriage listened to a very loud conversation from a man who’d had an anal cyst drained that afternoon at hospital.
