I prefer physical books, but do use audiobooks for re-reads where it is more of a reminder than something new. With re-reads I can listen while doing other things like yard work or cleaning.

You have a little more knowing than starting with teotw but not a big deal, #TheWheelOfTime has so much to the story and depths to figure out, plus all the foreshadowing to guess at that nothing is ruined

The Meaning Of Life — OUT NOW! After writing music on #TheWheelOfTime and meeting so many of you on #Wotskies , this is my most personal song yet. If you like late 60s psychedelic pop influences then check out the song below ❤️

Definitely a change but not that significant. If you know the later books, the shared activities and relationship is there, and the show just took it one step further, rather than in subtext.

Try the Rosamund Pike narrated audiobooks, she does a great job bringing it to life

Josha was perfect! Rafe understanding the story & subtext brought so much to the show! I do not want an animated show, yes more of the story could be told, but we have books for that. Animation does not have the emotional impact live action does, & internal conflict & emotion is core to the story.

Rosamund Pike's narration is amazing, and I love the updated feel to the books, really hoping she gets to continue with the rest of the series! But Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are long time favorites and on the top of my list of narrators.

It is wonderful when there are so many options, that appeal to different people. What gets concerning with media and publishers is that while we are getting more diverse topics and characters, and settings, the formats and writing styles feel all the same.

Here are the lyrics to "The Black Ajah" from the Season 3 soundtrack. Also, don't forget to: 1. Visit savewot.com to help us #SaveWOT 2. Rewatch #TheWheelOfTime this Saturday!

The Black Ajah song lyrics from season 3 of The Wheel of Time. Music by Lorne Balfe and lyrics by Michael Bitton. The background is Kate Fleetwood as Liandrin. English: Forsaken all three oaths, We live to serve the Dark One, In shadowed halls and corridors. We will masquerade. Darker than deepest night. Unknown to Aes Sedai. In the Shadows we fight.
For the fall of the light. Our whispers will deceive With murmured tones we mislead. We are Darkfriends whose words pretend. We will masquerade. We silently survive
Beware of our great might. In the Shadows we fight. For the fall of the light. Darker than deepest night. Unknown to Aes Sedai. In the Shadows we fight. For the fall of the light. Our whispers will deceive. With murmured tones we mislead. We are Darkfriends whose words pretend. We will masquerade. Darker than deepest night. Unknown to Aes Sedai. In the Shadows we fight. For the fall of the light.

I disagree on The Wheel of Time, I loved the full world the wordyness created. I keep trying with new series to find anything as immersive and slower paced. But it is true that so many brilliant works like them would never be published today.

Too often books confuse the different types of unions. Is there a good resource on them? I have only run across info on individual trades.

This is why I like Egwene as a character, but not as a person. She does awful things in pursuit of power and control, but her single minded devotion parallels Galad, and is interesting with the parallels to Rand, an unwilling savior of the world, while she dedicates herself to saving an institution.

What the show did was bring the queer subtext into the main story, and eliminate the cringy 90's Sci-fi /fantasy elements. It is multi cultural, and while there are Arthurian and Celtic, influences, RJ also melded influence from all different philosophies, religions, myths and legends.

Corporate risk aversion. Independent creatives are making, writing amazing and innovative works, it takes vision and risk to put the effort into marketing something new. You can see the same thing in lack of pattern, color options for everything from clothing, house siding, countertops or sofa's.

For many people anime or animated just does not pack the emotional punch that live actors do. Sure we could get more story but I would feel we would lose so much more.

The new Audio books narrated by Rosamund Pike are done really well. I like the fact that the books are long enough to last me a couple weeks of commuting.

Another fan of the books and I agree, the show pulled the subtext and hints from the books and brought it into the main story, the faster pace was great they were able to show so much of the world building with sets and costume, instead of paragraphs, it was awesome! #SaveWot

There are definitely wide differences in narrators, I have skipped over books I might be interested in just because of bad narrators. I will listen the text to speech over a bad narrator. Rosamond Pike is excellent though, I really hope she finishes the series.

FollowYourMuse @followyourmuse.bsky.social · 01/07/2025

It is not so much they were bad narrators, it is that they were early narrators, who started in the beginning when narrators moved from "Talking Books" that were primarily produced for hearing impaired, and the early ones were read without voices and accents that todays Audio books have.

Many have pounced on it, and feminists are divided on it. Yes it's odd but while the characters hammer on the fundamental differences, they are wrong, Jordan uses un-reliable narrator a lot, and the story continually shows that the best things come or were, when working equally and together.

I agree, once I had gotten over the story in my head, I could see how they were building these parallel storylines and bookend threads in the show, that would have been a fantastic scene! #SaveWot

Avant garde can be experimental with ideas, and concepts, against norms and standards. I agree you can debate if WoT was or not, it is more subtle, built into world building rather than story, like his reversal of "original sin", use of ideas from aboriginal dream walking or eastern religions.

True, I had forgotten about Tehanu, I had not read that until after wheel of time came out! I think the thing about "avante gaurde" is that it is cyclical and returns regularly, especially with speculative fiction.

You can never go wrong with the classics of Fantasy, even as basis for how fantasy has changed and evolved over time, The Wheel of Time, The Belgariad, Earthsea Cycle, Farseer Trilogy, Riddle-Master, Discworld, Broken Earth, The Dandelion Dynasty

The Wheel of Time is Epic High Fantasy, there are several other fantasy books and series that are just as epic, but written more directly look for Sword and Sorcery or Low Fantasy rather than High Fantasy. Books by Brandon Sanderson, Michael Sullivan, Mark Lawrence, Joe Abercrombie, and many others.

A post apocalyptic fantasy, that at the time it was written challenged the idea of what fantasy could be, had cultures not just based on medieval northern Europe, or Christian mythos, and flipped the norms in fantasy that women with magic is bad (Witches), and men with magic is good (Gandalf).
