My wife wanted a deck built around the pool. I have a Masters in Divinity which is not helpful in deck building except it helps me pray more and curse less! And while I don't believe in purgatory, if there is such a place, I think pouring 34 bags of concrete for pillars should count as time served!

This was my roommate in college. So good to reconnect! People thought we were brothers 25 yrs ago. We got accused of that this weekend! Ha! (I guess we could be since I built us matching fly rods with our school colors!) 🙃

Very cool! I refurbished an old Southbend 24-9 a couple months ago. Not restored to look original because owner just asked for "pretty"

Taking Sage, aka the Bug dog, for a walk. Dove and Quail will not distract her from her favorite quarry of bugs and lizards. 😐😀

It went well. She is still in the hospital though. Her discs were deteriorating and she had an inverse curvature. So she "grew" 1/2" and it's stretched all her neck and trap muscles and she needs some extra pain management for now. And she has to swallow jello b4 she can come home!

Thank you. Yes, I had c3-5 done back in 2009. It was life giving

If you are the praying/good vibes giving type, please pray for my wife, Lisa. She has been living with neck pain for 13 months. She is having surgery tomorrow to fuse c3-7. I love her more than fly fishing...so that says a lot!!

Building a 10 wt fly rod which will be heading to the UK. He wanted some American branding on it. So here's to the Red White and Blue! First coat of epoxy dried! Took top sections off the turner to build-up the butt section to get the epoxy level with the flag before a final coat over everything.

This is what's left of an 8oz sirloin I couldn't finish after eating a baked potato, a roll, and 3 grilled shrimp. When I was 16, I ate a baked potato, a salad, shrimp cocktail, a roll, and 71 ounces of a 72 oz steak at the Big Texan. (I threw up on the last bite.) I'm old.

When it's clean it looks like this. My dad built the fly tying table. It sits in a little closet in the spare room/office. The table has 10 drawers. I've got a stack of plastic ones next to it and 3 drawers of the nightstand/book case. Then a bunch of plastic containers stored underneath.

Had the privilege of restoring a classic 1955 Winston bamboo rod. The owner picked thread choices and reel seat. I custom made a grip incorporating some maple and Ambrosia Burl wood. The Agate stripping guide was the final touch. Just needs epoxy.

2/ I flamed the ring of the tip top and 5 seconds later there was a BANG that sounded like a .22. My wife heard it from the other room! The top went across the room like a bullet! (Chemical reaction?) I removed the JB weld and found a more traditional top that recesses deeper on the rod tip (3rdpic)

020

Brian Townsend @flyfishinguru.bsky.social · 07/07/2025

Just had the absolute craziest thing happen. I'm wrapping the tip section on this vintage bamboo rod. The owner had already replaced the tip top. But, it wasn't in alignment with a flat surface on the bamboo blank. See first pic. He sanded down the tip and used JB WELD on it 1/

I'm honored to get to restore this classic vintage Winston bamboo rod. (It's not mine!) Wrapping new guides on now. This Agate stripping guide from Struble is a nice touch.

I got no bounce. I was doing yardwork at the campus ministry building. Decided to test my hops I had a standing vertical of 33" in highschool. Now, at 56, it's probably 23! New goal: touch the rim in 3 months!

We live in a world where cruelness is rewarded. Make misogynistic and racist posts. Degrade people who vote differently. You'll get more followers. But then, you won't be following Jesus. The truly "impaired" are those who can walk in kindness and choose not to. They are the blind leading the blind

050

Brian Townsend @flyfishinguru.bsky.social · 23/06/2025

Jesus-"whatever you did or didn't do for/to the least among you, the impoverished and the imprisoned, you did or did not do for/to Me." Christians who have no intention of taking Jesus seriously here should not be surprised when we don't take them seriously.

4/4 it's never a waste of time to spend time being kind. I wasn't having a good day until that interaction. Now I'm just thinking how incredibly blessed I am and how amazing the human race can be when we take a moment for kindness. I can still feel his laughter even though I can't hear it. Be kind

3/ There was a Walmart employee, an older gentleman, about 10 steps away. I guess he had observed the interaction and as I walked past he stuck out his fist. We exchanged a bump. My day was brighter. It took 2 minutes of my time. It took 2 seconds of the man's time.

100

Brian Townsend @flyfishinguru.bsky.social · 18/06/2025

The young man responded by bumping and then laughing...really loud. The other guy was his brother. I told him I had a son with extra gifts like his brother. He said, "it's challenging but I love him so much." I said.. I know you do. 2/

100

Brian Townsend @flyfishinguru.bsky.social · 18/06/2025

Was walking out of Walmart and there were a couple of guys in their 20s in front of me. One was non-verbal but was making lots of happy noises. I'm familiar with that sound. My son (technically step-son is like that.) I stopped and asked if I could give him some "knuckles." 1/
