I think so? though Ultimate added onto what Smash 4 had and gave Mario a modeled tongue, hair has a completely different UV map while the mustache and eyebrows are identical. Also worth noting that the clothing was atlas'd into one texture for Ultimate, but uses the same UV layout as 4 otherwise.

In the Mario Teaches Typing games, Mario never criticizes the player for underperforming and tries to be understanding and supportive. According to Charles Martinet, that was his initiative, as he felt being negative would go against the core principles of Mario's character.

And I was reading that and I said, "Do you mind if I just, like, play with these words a little bit and just change them around?" because, you know, I never say "no" and I never say anything negative as Mario... and the producer graciously said "Sure, go for it!"
And so it became "Oh, that was good, but I know you can do even better!" "Oh, nice one but let's try again!" so it was always uplifting and always trying to be positive. And I think that that is the essence of the character to me - it's that love and that joy.

Random anecdote: Mario's model in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is unaltered in his cap and facial hair topology, being the same triangle count as they were in his Brawl model. Mario's head is edited from his GameCube/Wii era model, while his body is edited from his model in Melee. Cuter Mario, anyone?

Mario's face in Ultimate is nearly identical to his model from Brawl aside from having extra geometry added to his mouth and ears among other low-detail areas, with only his brown hair being the most expensive change in triangle count.

Same as the former image, but Mario's eyebrows on both models were altered to match the shape of his common GameCube/Wii era model.
Making Mario's facial expression appear less aggressive and more relaxed.

Did yet another face edit with Mario's Odyssey model, this time to match it with his 3D World model. I still need to fix the sideburns, but with that aside... ...Why does Mario's previous facial structure do a better job representing the 2D art than the model that was supposed to be built from it?

Mario's face mesh after editing it to fit his 3D World model. Mario's face is notably less puffy overall and his mouth is placed higher up under his mustache, looking much closer to Shigehisa Nakaue's art than what became of Mario's face in vanilla Super Mario Odyssey.

Mario's "WearEnd" animation with the new face mesh and his beta outfit from during Super Mario Odyssey's development. Note that Mario's earlier design for his overalls had the ends of his overalls' straps rounded like the 2D art, while in the final game they were reverted back to the angular look they had since the GameCube era.
It is also worth nothing that Mario's textures in the final game still retain the general UV layout of his beta model, as the unmapped areas of the textures surrounding his straps still appear rounded rather than angular.

Concept art from "The Art of Super Mario Odyssey" regarding Mario's in-game model, note how the ref sheet that was drawn for Mario's initial draft for his model has the line where Mario's mouth appears in the final game marked as his "Lower lip", implying that this was supposed to be a measurement for where the outer edge of Mario's lower lip would crease at rather than being the opening of Mario's mouth.
Nakaue's art is also present next to a retextured version of Mario's model from Super Mario 3D World, which has textures similar in style to what Mario's beta model initially had.
Interestingly, Mario's model that's used whenever Cappy pulls him into a "Captured" entity (Internally referred to as "MarioHack") still contains Mario's beta textures and retains his rounded straps, Mario's "Golf" costume in the final game also retains the old body model with rounded straps that he originally used during Odyssey's development.

Valoo sometimes appears around TWICE his model's base size depending on the context, such as when being viewed from a distance in Dragon Roost Island's silhouette. Halmaroc King by comparison is roughly twice Ganon's size compared to Link during their boss fight. One yawn from Valoo and he's poultry

Also worth noting that the base of Valoo's neck is 3000 units above the floor in his T-pose, this divided by 150 equals 20 meters/65 feet and 7.4016 inches (assuming 150 units in Nintendo's 3D games is equal to a full meter). This also isn't accounting for the fact that models are resized in-game...

Fun fact: Valoo has two unique tail meshes in Wind Waker, the one that's normally part of his main model is a lower detail version of it. Since Valoo's tail in Gohma's boss fight is higher poly, I tried re-attaching it to the rest of his model. Both his tail and neck are roughly 10 bones each, ouch.

Try recreating the "Avatar" properties that Unity uses for mapping the armature to it's bones maybe? could just be a one got moved in the new model and Unity is trying to apply the old bone offsets over the new model

I’ve thought long and hard about making this post, but really, at this point, I don’t have much to lose. Desperate times, and all that.

TLDR version: I need a kidney transplant, and I’m looking for a donor. Read below for all the gory details.

Since late 2019, right before Covid hit, I’ve been battling a serious illness. I’ve been kind of cagey about what exactly is wrong, for a number of reasons, but here’s the truth—I’m in full kidney failure.

There is no history of this in my family, so when the symptoms began appearing I didn’t recognize them until it was too late. By the time I went to a doctor my kidney function had dropped into the single digits. Most kidney failure is caused by diabetes or high blood pressure—I got some weird kidney disease I can’t even pronounce and never heard of: Oxalate Nephropathy.

By adopting some dietary changes and careful monitoring, I was able to limp along with reduced kidney function for several years. But you don’t appreciate how much your kidneys do to keep you healthy until they stop working. There’s constant fatigue and nausea, and a general feeling of unwellness that never goes away.

But eventually I lost even what minimal function I had left, which left the end of the line for kidney disease: dialysis. As of this point I’ve been on dialysis for about 3 years. Let me tell you—dialysis is its own special kind of hell that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.

But even that is just a stop-gap measure, and my condition is continuing to get worse. Despite this, I’m trying my best to live as normal a life as possible. I’m extremely lucky I have a job that’s willing to allow me 9 hours a week for dialysis, so I’m still working. On weekends I work on my art and comics, and one or two days a month I do my volunteer work at the bird-banding site. I can even travel to see my family—if I arrange for dialysis at a local clinic ahead of time.

All of that is done while trying to deal with the symptoms of kidney failure. I’ve known 4 people who were on dialysis—none of them worked or really did much of anything, and at this point they’re all dead, which doesn’t really give me a lot of hope for my future.

Which brings us to the point of all this—I desperately need a kidney transplant. That is the only thing that will give me a chance at a relatively normal life. I’ve been approved and on the transplant list for a few years, but the waiting period in California is very long. By the time I get to the top of it, I may be too sick to get one. Right now I’m still in relatively good condition, comparatively. A transplant from a living donor lasts much longer and is better in every way than one you get from a deceased donor.

Unfortunately, everyone in my immediate family is too old or has other health problems that preclude donation. So this post is a desperate attempt to find anyone willing to donate. I realize donating a kidney is a lot different than giving ten bucks to a GoFundMe, but as I said at the beginning, at this point I don’t have much to lose by asking.
