I have been mourning the vileda green ones for ages, the scrub mommy ones are not bad I've found (they're hard when dry/cold, soften in hot water, but reasonable at some level of scouring, and with the addition of a plastic scraper cover most things)

Exactly. in part because once the anti-ULEZ interests realised Khan wasn't going to back down on implementing it in london, they switched to containment mode. Poisoning the political well so central government or other local polities, without strong central leadership, wouldn't do it.
