well this explains some things (from mydialect.us/quiz-standar... - which completely flagged me as speaking Utah via California.)

The 7-fjells-tur! Even though we only made it over 5 mountains, that's not so bad for less than a year postpartum - and it got me excited about future long hikes. I'm doing the Great Saunter around Manhattan this year.

So true. To be honest, and I know this illustrates how shallow I am, this all makes me just so infinitely sympathetic to the new Pope. ("Popes: they're just like us!")
"Without thinking about it, I copied the link and nearly sent it to a group chat, before catching myself in disgust. Viral or not, this was the private account of a man who'd had some degree of a private life when he got out of bed this morning, and clearly had not anticipated being elected pope. Anyone who harbored the ambition of becoming the spiritual leader of 1.4 billion people worldwide would, at a minimum, probably make sure his socials were secure - that his 172 Facebook friends were masked from the rest of the world, or that his retweets from 2017 wouldn't set off a diplomatic firestorm from an impulsive president or a spiteful vice president - before he surrendered his electronic devices at the conclave."

OK but there is no option for what I really am: a chaos goblin who does BCP, missal and also recently rewrote some EOW prayers because they weren't contemporary enough for my 5pm service

I was too busy to post my liturgical fit on Sunday - so here it is, late. I have been WAITING to wear this chasuble!

The second style of thurible has four chains. The benefit is that you have more control over airflow because you can hold the top of the thurible slightly open while swinging or hanging it. The downside is that the chains are very easy to tangle and difficult to untangle.
A four chain thurible.

Since I'm apparently just going for it today... There are two main styles of thurible. The first one has a single chain. The benefit is that you can't get anything tangled up. The downside is that you can't hold the thurible's top in a semi-up position, so its handle gets hot.
A thurible with a single chain.

Sometimes you learn wonderful things as part of your ministry Today, for me, it's that "pancakes" in Spanish is "panqueques"

What a joy for my whole postulancy class (small due to covid) to finally all have become priests this past Saturday! Congrats to Mother Sarah - a blessing to the church!

Are you in NYC? Good. May I suggest getting off the doomscroll treadmill and coming to an Episcopal prayer service that's all about the gifts Black folks have brought our church, community, nation...world? (Feb 1, 5 PM, St. Matthew & St. Timothy's on the Upper West Side!)

One very nice thing about being a priest is sometimes being allowed to wear a big ol' cope* in a sacristy out of Central Casting** @acblume.bsky.social *Yes that is spelled right. It is a cope, not a cape **I mean it—it's played itself in at least one TV show (EVIL on CBS)
