This was my reaction too and I don't even know whether the "we" is humanists, women, people with the ability to read, Canadians, fans of Sappho, fans of Emily Dickinson, translators, classicists, or people who appreciate the feelings of sad red monsters. Either way, yes

Honestly this advice changed my life. "Just say ‘I disagree’." You have do that, but you don't have to do more than that. Don’t make some elaborate argument, don't call the person scum, just make it clear that you don't think like that. And get your mates to chime in, too.

This reinstatement happened for one reason: a union contract. She was brought back against managements wishes because she won the highest level of the grievance procedure, arbitration. This is how you can take the power back from people like Jeff Bezos: form a union.

I agree that's the best thing to do, for sure. Yes vaccines save children's lives 100% absolutely yes. All the more reason to look at the evidence for why people are hesitant and how to move forward. This article my colleague @helenpearson.bsky.social is great I think www.nature.com/articles/d41...
The first thing to do if someone expresses uncertainty about vaccines to you, say researchers, is not to judge or dismiss them. It’s wrong to assume that people are ignorant, irrational or have naively swallowed online misinformation. A lot of people have genuine and legitimate questions and “you’re going to lose them if you immediately jump back and say ‘that’s silly’ or ‘that’s not the fact’”, Larson says. (Researchers distinguish between vaccine hesitancy — being unsure about vaccination — and ‘anti-vaccine’ activists who campaign against it.)One major European study pointed to the root of many concerns. The study, called VAX-TRUST, examined why parents hesitated to vaccinate their children in seven European countries between 2021 and 2024, a period that spanned the COVID-19 pandemic3. Typically, hesitancy “starts with personal concerns about, ‘what will this do to my child? How will it affect my health?’”, says Pia Vuolanto, a social scientist at Tampere University in Finland, who led the study.

If we really want to protect children we must learn from research that studies how to build and rebuild trust in vaccines; it's hard work but demonizing parents isn't it (totally understand why people are enraged tho)

Flora Graham @floragraham.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
I'm very sympathetic to the feelings underlying this post, but vaccine-questioning and vaccine-hesitant parents are ALSO trying their best to protect their children. Attacking each other is playing right into the hands of those who profit from anti-vaccine lies ❤️

Hunter S. Thompson Writes a Blistering, Over-the-Top Letter to Anthony Burgess (1973)
We know Anthony Burgess for having written A Clockwork Orange, but in total, according to Shaun Usher's More Letters of Note:

Flora Graham @floragraham.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
Will forever be thinking of this letter (my own email style has sometimes been deemed ‘a bit harsh’)
Dear Mr. Burgess,

Herr Wenner has forwarded your useless letter from Rome to the National Affairs Desk for my examination and/or reply.

Unfortunately, we have no International Gibberish Desk, or it would have ended up there.

What kind of lame, half-mad bullshit are you trying to sneak over on us? When Rolling Stone asks for “a thinkpiece”, goddamnit, we want a fucking Thinkpiece… and don’t try to weasel out with any of your limey bullshit about a “50,000 word novella about the condition humaine, etc…”

Do you take us for a gang of brainless lizards? Rich hoodlums? Dilettante thugs?

You lazy cocksucker. I want that Thinkpiece on my desk by Labor Day. And I want it ready for press. The time has come & gone when cheapjack scum like you can get away with the kind of scams you got rich from in the past.

Get your worthless ass out of the piazza and back to the typewriter. Your type is a dime a dozen around here, Burgess, and I’m fucked if I’m going to stand for it any longer.

Sincerely,

Hunter S Thompson
