I don't want to make this about my true, deeper feelings about redemption and forgiveness, but I don't think we're just a sum of our worst parts. However, we're a million miles away from that when part of his calculus over the last decade was "maybe I can good vibes this awful thing into remission."

I'm being a little pedantic! I can feel for peers who were personally working with him. I will be there for them and understand their feelings of devastation. But I don't think it's worth a lot of time focusing on non-disclosure when 1) that didn't happen and 2) was always unlikely.

I mean! He clearly thought it would never come up! We can litigate how foolish that might've been but it doesn't matter now. It's ugly and horrible. I think those collaborators are allowed to feel betrayed and nasty and sick but ultimately they have to forgive their ignorance and move on.

I think that impulse is normal but I'm seeing a lot of us participate in it very irresponsibly. The Bobby Kotick People Make Games report really highlighted how bad our peers are at not helping themselves by rushing or being undisciplined. That kind of shows up here, too.
