Category Is Books had their windows smashed again. Donate to support them if you can www.gofundme.com/f/categoryis... #categoryisbooks #glasgow #queerbookshops
Four panel comic.
Panel 1. Image - a cartoon dog like character wearing a striped jumoer and blue trousers reads a purple book beneath a book opened like a pup tent. There is a flag that reads Category Is Books. There are five stickers: hope will never be silent, trans liberation nkw, queer queer queer books, fiercly independent and Daniel Quasar's Progress Pride Flag
Text - There is a steady rise in violence...
Panel 2. Image - the character stands looking forlornly at the book tent flattened on the ground, the stickers torn, the flag crumpled.
Text - against LGBTQ+ folk and their spaces. When it happens...
Panel 3. Image - a group of cartoon creatures help to put the book tent back up. One sits atop the spine of it holding the 'Category Is Books' flag aloft. Speech bubbles read "stronger!" "Queerer than ever!" "More Book!"
Text - our community rallies. And when it happens...
Panel 4. The book tent it restored. The cartokn creatures sit on top and inside it, reading and having lively conversations. The flag Category Is Books flies proudly again.
Text - i wish we didn't have to. I wish we were already safe.

I read that as "Unless I start hitting the people..." initially, which... could also work? 😅 But anyway, I just realised (again) that not everyone knits in the nice sensible European style, which yes, makes things harder. 😆

I can't remember how long it took, but it wasn't crazy, a few weeks maybe? It's definitely doable, and makes for really nice flowy fabric.

I'm crocheting one with sock yarn right now! But I've also knitted jumpers in 4ply. I think I used 2mm needles (I tend to go as small as possible with my needle sizes because I knit super-loosely).

Ha, that's cool. I do wonder how these things get their names sometimes... 😆 Thanks for the love! (Brioche/ English Ribbing pretty much does the colour on it's own - you just do one colour per row, so it's easy!)

I've had this green possum yarn in my stash for nearly twenty years, and have started many projects with it, but never quite finished anything... This time round, I'm trying a brioche jumper. So, what do we think, is this one gonna stick? Place your bets! 🧶 #knitting #briocheknitting #wip #yarn

Are some people facing truly dire realities? Yes. Do we need more people to join in resisting? Absolutely. But I really despise the idea that the right are the only ones doing anything, which is a) not true, and b) furthers their cause because it makes it even harder for people to step up.

I'm not 100% sure I agree with that (the apathy bit, I mean). We're certainly told that nobody cares, and are bombarded daily with the successes of the far right by far right media, but I see a lot of very ordinary people with limited means and connections mobilising.

Floopy Buzzlesworth @floopy-b.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
...but I feel drawing any connections to today may just accidentally help us down this path of 'It was so bad it couldn't possibly happen again - Oops now it has.'

Floopy Buzzlesworth @floopy-b.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
That's true, which is why the biggest thing that came out of reading the book was some doubt over whether it is useful to approach this history with any sort of judgement on our part. We can agree that a massive number of people were murdered, and that's shit, ...
110
Floopy Buzzlesworth @floopy-b.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Like, to be clear, I agree with what you say about several things being true at once, but I think a lot of people say 'they didn't have a choice' and then leave it at that. Both of my great-granddads were in the Wehrmacht, which gives me all sorts of complicated feelings.
110
Floopy Buzzlesworth @floopy-b.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Have you read 'Gedenken neu denken' by Susanne Siegert? It's an uncomfortable read initially, because it takes apart this idea that there was no choice etc... I'm not sure it offers any useful answers, but it has made me a bit less keen to rush to the 'they didn't have a choice' argument.

It is important to keep this in circulation
Insult Deflection or Insult Reflection is a single-panel cartoon illustrating the effects one's insults or other forms of verbal attacks directed at a disliked person can inadvertently have on their mutuals, depicting a stick figure shooting at another, who then deflects it into a third person. Spawned by a viral Tumblr post about bodyshaming, the cartoon has been used as an exploitable meme since June 2022.

This is beautiful work and under the right circumstances can be a wonderful gift. But as you say, this can be a touchy subject, so it depends how close you are with them, I guess. If they're discussing this topic freely, you could probably go for it, but otherwise it might be better to tread lightly

What have I been up to, you ask? Well, I've been drawing mythological creatures from Germany for my zine. #illustration #cryptids #folktales #mythology #germany
Digital illustration of a Bahkauv. This looks like a calf with very large eyes, shaggy fur, bear paws and a long scaly tail that drag on the ground. The Bahkauv is said to jump on the backs of drunk men on their way home from the pub, just to mess with them and make it harder for them to get home. Once they get to their house, it jumps off and goes looking for its next victim. Digital illustration of a Dilldap, which is a mythological creature said to look like a mix of a polecat, rabbit and deer. They're shy creatures, which survive mostly on stolen potatoes, which they grate with their tongue. They live for over a hundred years and lay eggs.Digital illustration of an Elwetritsch, which is a mix of a chicken, a duck, a goose and various fae folk. They have useless little wings and an overly long beak. Elwetritsche are a variation of a type of demon that sneaks into people's bedrooms at night to sit on their chests and give them nightmares and sleep paralysis.Digital illustration of a Wolpertinger and a Rasselbock. Both of these are related to the Dilldap, and also to Jackalopes, and both of them are often depicted as hares with deer antlers, but Wolpertinger also sometimes take the shape of squirrels with duck beaks.
