Let me speak to the DOGE audit language. Many people who work in both the Treasury and specifically the IRS are CPAs. Most audit firms hire CPAs. A 19yo coder has absolutely no idea how to accurately identify waste or fraud. Calling what DOGE is doing as a audit, is a flat out lie.

It feels like the Ds “strategy” is to stay quiet and let the Rs own this mess. I initially would have agreed. The problem is: 1) this makes them look weak, 2) Rs will still blame them, 3) at some point (soon) we’ll be past the point of no return. Watching your country self-destruct is no fun.

As bad as things were last time (and they were bad), at least there were often “adults” in the room. They were people who supported him and a lot of his awful ideas, but they also believed in democracy and in following certain norms of society. They aren’t there this time.
