I sincerely hope that everyone takes him seriously when he says that he is on the ballot.

Can you imagine the uproar if Biden had done this?

Working on a side-project using Antigravity, and came across a problem I'd solved a while back in a different side-project. Asked Gemini to take a look at my old solution and tell me what it thought of the approach: "It's a clever, overly-academic idea that turns into a practical mess." Ouch.

Hottest 4th of July since...oh...erm...just 2010. I guess this is pretty common now.

Yeah, it's hot, but at least it's a wet heat. - My sweat-soaked coworker who made the mistake of walking to work this morning

Lukewarm take: "this meeting could have been an AI chat" is the new "this meeting could have been an email."

Every time I blow through my weekly Gemini quota on my side project, I remember that at work I have effectively no quota. I cannot help but fear that AI will undemocratize software development.

Gemini 3.5 Flash is stupidly sycophantic, but I accidentally solved it. Just to see if it could, I asked it to swear at me. Not only can it, but it's suddenly willing to tell me when I'm wrong and that my code fucking sucks. That instruction now permanently lives in my global context file. 😂

I can't say these photos will win any awards, but warbler season in Pittsburgh (Clayton Hill at Frick Park specifically) sure is fun! On this particular outing a few weeks back, I got FIVE new life listers. Woo! #birding #birds #warbler 🪶

A Blackburnian Warbler high up in the trees. The photo is a bit grainy, but you can make out the flame-orange throat.

A somewhat grainy photo of a Yellow-rumped Warbler perched on a tiny branch in front of two thick tree trunks. The bright yellow marking on its side is visible.

A grainy photo looking up at Black-throated Green Warbler perched on a thin branch against the sky. The solid black throat and bright yellow face are visible.

A grainy photo of a Chestnut-sided Warbler perched on a branch. The yellow cap atop the black and white face is visible, as is the distinctive chestnut colored streak on its side.

Been seeing a lot of very cute catbirds around Pittsburgh lately. Here is one I saw while at the zoo! #birds 🪶

I was going through some old docs and stumbled upon the exam instructions from years ago when I taught Introduction to Computer Programming. Good God the attempts at humor were so cringe. Apologies to each and every student I ever taught 😅

Protesters gathered along Grant Street in front of Pittsburgh’s City-County building Downtown for a third round of the nationwide No Kings protests Saturday. More than 15,000 people were in attendance, according to city officials.

Oof - I had a similar experience! When my spouse was fully out I was PIMO (faking it because when it comes to BYU the church doesn't actually follow the 11th article of faith), several ward leaders in Provo independently took it upon themselves to advise divorce. Gross.

Flip @flippityflip.bsky.social · 10/03/2026

The spark was me trying to prove an antimormon wrong only to learn (from church approved sources!) that he was right. That wasn't quite enough though - I still thought the church was good. Hanging out with queer exmormons at secret BYU meetups helped me realize the church is not just false, but bad.

030

Flip @flippityflip.bsky.social · 10/03/2026

Absolutely vile. The church knew about the abuse and enabled it to continue. Each and every church leader who knew about this should go find a millstone. Members who are finding out about this should reconsider who it is they are following.

000

Flip @flippityflip.bsky.social · 10/03/2026

Church leaders should go find some fucking millstones...

One more trick for local LLMs on your phone - use vulkan! Literally just pkg i ollama-vulkan-backend and then the previous thing runs a bit faster!

000

Flip @flippityflip.bsky.social · 23/02/2026

More useful: you can actually use Gemini CLI inside Termux. pkg up pkg i nodejs clang binutils build-essential python npm install -g --ignore-scripts @google/gemini-cli gemini You'll have to log in or use an API key, but even without a subscription the free tier is somewhat generous.

000

Flip @flippityflip.bsky.social · 23/02/2026

Using Termux on Android, you can just run an LLM! pkg up pkg i ollama ollama serve & ollama run gemma3:1b I got a few other models running too, but anything bigger hits RAM limits on my device. Is this useful in any way? No! These models are pretty dumb. Is this fun and/or cool? I think so!

Just learned that both my high schooler and middle schooler have/will participate in student organized walkouts protesting ICE. Sure, their efforts are a bit clumsy, but I am so fucking proud. Organizing is how we win - the fact that kids are already learning to organize gives me immense hope.

It cracks me up that despite the fact that "gemini cli" is very likely a navigational query, the top result (at least for me) on Google is a massive sponsored result for Claude Code along with a ton of huge site links.

It's a nice thought, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I think this just says that Utah Dems tend to be more liberal than the average Dem, and that younger college-educated folks lean more Dem than GOP. The rest of the state though? Not so much.

Flip @flippityflip.bsky.social · 05/02/2026

Replace the cross with the angel Moroni, and you have what I saw in Utah back when I was still a believing Mormon. Passages like Matt 25:35-46 come to mind...

A four panel comic depicting MAGA-style Christianity. First panel shows a figure saying "fucking foreigners." Second panel shows the figure approaching a church saying "fucking gays". The third panel shows the figure kneeling before a cross saying "I love you, Jesus". Fourth panel shows the figure leaving the church saying "fucking poor people".

Jeff Bezos' wedding last summer cost somewhere around $50M. That, alone, could have saved all 300 positions cut today at The Washington Post for a year. Of course, he wouldn't have to choose. He could do both because he's worth $250B, which is nearly the GDP of New Zealand.
