Thanks, Daryl. That’s interesting and understandable; also reassuring. I mainly do journalism and by necessity have multiple assignments on the go, which can be sometimes schizophrenic. But I am a singleminded tortoise on a creative project.

Good to see the picture (bald man pointing at CRT screen) that launched a thousand digital effects publicity poses. I feel compelled to post this classic meta image, a witty satire of wheels within wheels, that graced the pages of Cinefex 77.
Master cartoonist and visual effects supervisor John Van Vliet (L) and digital artist William Arance make an amusing gesture during the making of "My Favorite Martian" (1999). Picture specially posed and then printed, with tongue in cheek, in Cinefex 77.

I went through this with The Glitch, Paul (somehow 18 years ago 😳). DM me if you’d like a DVD (gratis) with my nearly hour-long, tell-all video diaries, prep to fests. Most, I never put online; but, it’s great fun when fests do accept 🙏🎥🧦⚡️ www.youtube.com/embed/P9aqfb...

Drusilla, I shared your pics with Ken Russell's son, Xavier, who's a friend from years ago. Pardon me, I neglected to mention photo credit, but Xav reposted and he was tickled to see this cardboard monolith to his dad's naughty classic at the Burbank AMC: www.instagram.com/p/DdmvBizjP_w/ 👼👿❤️‍🔥

From my research: this was a Century Projectors 35/70 JJ-model projector (vintage 1959). Looks like the 70mm horizontal platter feed and takeup spools came from Christies. Projectionists apparently assembled prints from three reels. Here's how it's done, in Oregon: youtu.be/tN05nzk9oT8

Amen to that. I had the privilege of climbing inside the film and interviewing many of the filmmakers for Cinefex magazine, back in the day. A few years later, I penned a purple-prose review of the film for my blog, archived at the ugly URL below: img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/e3...

Yeah, it's a really cool show; but it's based on the work of Swedish graphic artist Simon Stålenhag, not Spielberg or Azimov. Showrunner Nathaniel Halpern adapted his own intriguing mythology from brief narrative descriptions that Stålenhag had for his evocative sci-fi art pieces. simonstalenhag.se

Yes, it’s beautiful and haunting. But headline is misleading. Spielberg and Asimov are the Screenrant reviewer’s referents; neither had anything to do with the series.

Stella, the artistry is still there. I have covered many Weta shows, including LOTR and other productions mentioned here, and I interviewed a couple of Weta artisans last week for a beautiful upcoming film (under NDA). I wouldn’t write them off. It’s up to the filmmakers. My humble 2¢.

Oh, I missed that. "Species" was a grueling gig, despite the charms of its leading lady. I noticed it streaming on Amazon at the moment (with new key art that makes it look like a 1980s Roger Corman production) and, I admit, I hovered over the 'play' button. But I haven't seen it since 1995.

My mum, for her every sneeze, used to politely utter “atchoo” in a very loud and posh-sounding falsetto, like a character in an Oscar Wilde play. We were not posh (Essex, UK) so, as a boy, I always cringed when Mum sneezed in public. People would turn and frown. I sneeze like an angry elephant: 🐘 💨
