fall background with leaves: Submission Stats
We responded to all submissions within 24 hours and received a new record of 300+ submissions.

If you somehow didn't receive a response, know that it could be a gmail glitch or the email was wrong (it's flaremagazinesubmissions@gmail.com). If this is the case, please either DM or email!fall background with leaves: But Why Was My Submission Rejected?
There are many factors that I consider:
-not the right fit or couldn't connect to the voice/writing
-doesn't fit with the other pieces I've accepted that are curating this issue
-it's my subjective opinion
-it doesn't discuss disability (at all or enough)
-I also do daily author spotlights when an issue comes out, so I also have to be more selective.fall background with leaves: As you can see, I received a lot of submissions this time, so that meant I had to be very selective in order to keep the work manageable for me--the ONLY editor and reader for this literary magazine. Please don't be discouraged if you received a rejection! There's always next time, and a rejection isn't a reflection on your as a person or writer! As for those who were accepted in issue 6, congrats, and remember, the issue releases on October 18, the start of Invisible Disabilities Week!

🔥 A quick submission guidelines change going forward: we've decided to increase the creative nonfiction word count to 2500 words to match the short stories category. If word counts are a little over (200-ish words max), that's okay, but please nothing more than that!
red flowers and off-yellow background: Small Submission Guidelines Change: The creative nonfiction word count is 2500 words now (instead of 2000 as the limit), effective as of issue 6 and on . . .

pumpkins picturedred flowers and off-yellow background: Word count limits of short stories and creative nonfiction are both 2500 words as a limit (and preferred), but 200-ish words over is okay.

Just don't send anything thousands over the word count limit!

“Modern Magic” - made from a medicine blister pack & information leaflet, along with representations of uplift & joy because, in this instance, the prescription had relieved some strong symptoms. #art #mixedmedia #collage #chronicillness #chronicpain #mentalhealth #mecfs #CraftSky #ME/CFS #medicine
Art Technique: Created by Assembling, Collaging and Stitching the Detritus of Medication Packaging Along With Representations of Comfort and Joy
ALT Text: Leaflet: What you need to know: Information for the User: Relief; your possible side effects [both said on right and left columns]; [Left Side]:
Feathered heights, seeds of hope, a held-together heart, many petalled joys;
[Right Side]: Reconnection with the music of life, perceived blue skies, green-leaved fate, star-guarded nights;
[Bottom Caption]: Relief: medicines cause side effects, although not everybody gets, although not excessive medicine, if you get any side effects, modern magicText: Artist's Statement
"Modern Magic" was inspired by trench art, in which the detritus of war is used to make decorative items. While I no longer identify with the idea of life with illness being a battle to win, there is definitely conflict and much discarded medical waste. I made this piece from a medicine blister pack and information leaflet, along with representations of uplift and joy because, in this instance, the prescription had relieved some strong symptoms.Text: The stitch used to
attach the blister pack to the background is blanket stitch, which brings to mind comfort. The use of natural items in the pill compartments harks back to healing techniques before the development of modern medicine.
They remind us that synthesized medicine isn't necessarily the antithesis of traditional beliefs.
