This is just one of the rather gorgeous places I spent my weekend. If this doesn't scream "children's adventure story about running away to an uninhabited island to live in a cave," to you, you had a deprived childhood.

Sheltered cove on Russell Island off Vancouver, which is indeed uninhabited. There were no caves here, sadly, but I'm pretty sure we could have found some a bit further around the coast. Shot is of a rocky outcrop overhung with trees and bushes, on a beach strewn artistically with driftwood. You can just make out a somewhat blue sea in the background, though in reality it was a lot bluer.

Ok, ok, it's pretty naughty, but there's fruit and calcium in there, right?

Had too many radishes in the fridge. Who knew radish soup was a thing?!

White Ikea cereal bowl full of creamy radish soup flecked with green, as I *might* have disposed of two courgettes and a cucumber in here too…

Good morning Bluets! Who says a healthy breakfast can’t be a little bit naughty too?! Rise’n’shine! Happy Sunday!

“Bali bowl” style brekkie: red berry Love Crunch muesli with sliced fresh bananas, raspberries and blueberries, and a generous dollop of vanilla yogurt. All arranged in colourful stripes. Oh, and a glass of orange juice to wash it down. That takes care of most of my 5-a-day, no?

SIL gave me an entire pack of postcards like this, and now I need to become an elusive international criminal just so I can taunt an obsessed detective by sending them from unlinked worldwide destinations

Array of startlingly niche 1970s fashion pic postcards, the reverse printed with a fetching Charlie’s Angels style silhouette version of the front, and the pack they came in, which rejoices in the title “Catalogue Woman”.

Good morning Bluets! A very, very, very overdue bouquet for you! Blaze with glory, my lovelies!

Orange lilies - absolutely gorgeous I might add - set off to a tee IMO by violet ohmygoodnesswhatthehellarethosethingscalledagains. You know, the bushes with big grapefruit sized clusters of flowers. Frankly they’re not usually my faves but they happen to work here.

Good afternoon Bluets! Love that it’s the time of year Little can come home with randomly picked blooms that are better than anything in a florist’s!

A dark purple flower about the size of a tennis ball with multiple petals, against our rather fetching pine table which reflects the light from the window and the angles of a chair in a satisfying way.

Sorry Bluets, been rushing around like a blue-ar*ed fly again! Here, have a pretty flower as an apology!

I think this is a camellia, from the leaves. It’s one of the many “stolen” pics from a garden other than mine. Anyway, it’s a lovely deep crimson and looks a bit like a rose. (Photo).

Nighty night Bluets! Burton-esque dreams. Xx

So I believe this is a very large pine of some sort - trunk only - covered in strangling thick creepers that have all grown vertically like the bars of some eldrich prison. Being a tad dramatic, I used a black and white filter in the photo app. I don’t usually do this - most of my photos are untouched by human or digital hand - but I made an exception in this case because it was screaming out for a Wednesday Addams style makeover.

Good morning Bluets! Some wee white blossoms from yesterday’s temporary break in the deluge. 🐸

Little white blossoms. The smart money’s on Apple, but I’m going to believe they’re Hawthorn, because my mum used to say “never cast a clout until the May is out, and if they’re May blossoms (correct me, but that’s another name for Hawthorn right?) I can ditch my snow jacket at last…

Sunday poser: oaty cookies with or without mixed berries?

Without: cooling rack of oaty cookies sans berries.

With: oaty cookies with dried mixed berries, you know, cranberries, blueberries, that sort of thing. Sour cherries too I think. This is new territory so proof of the pudding and all that.

Good morning Bluets! All the rain here does make for pretty fungus at least…

Oh come now, I can’t tell a dahlia from a daisy and you want me to identify fungi? All I can tell you is it’s several overlaid sort of florets in a scale type arrangement. And when I say florets, they’re more like cabbage leaf shapes with rings like the tree trunk they’re on. The edges are a sort of lacy pale green and the centres are darker bottle green. The whole effect is of a sort of Fungus the bogeyman take on a peacock’s tail. Sorry, that’s the best I can do. Suffice it to say, its interest lies in something largely rotten being unaccountably quite pretty (photo).

Purists would hate what we just had for dinner, but it was a hit with us barbarians. (Alt for details).

The healthy bit: broccoli and asparagus. Love that it’s asparagus season!

The shocking: leftover veggie chilli with a cheesy mash topping. There’s cream cheese in the mash, making it insanely fluffy.

My dish: cheesy chilli with broccoli and asparagus. Tasty, colourful comfort on a plate!

Good morning Bluets! A freshly-rinsed and blooming Tuesday to you!

I think this is a camellia. Someone will remind me, I’m sure. At any rate, it’s a deep pink bloom that I often mistake for a rose because of the densely packed petals, but one glance at its leaves, which are more oval and too pale a green should have told me what a fool I was for thinking that. This being Vancouver in March, this particular blossoms is well jewelled in raindrops (photo).

Good afternoon Bluets! I'm reposting one of my fave pics cos it's grim and grey here today again and I'm in the mood for some sweltering sunshine! I've said it before and I'll say it again - one day this will be the cover to some kind of David Lynch-esque suburban horror I am definitely writing.

Hot blue summer sky peeping through pink dogwoods that look far too "Wizard of Oz Munchkin Land" to be real, though I promise you they were. That's part of the David Lynch vibe - the other part is the bright red, slightly dusty pickup that is also peeking through the trees and that, in my story, will almost certainly have a body in the trunk, that will be semi-decayed and hence difficult to identify without further investigation, which will of course reveal a nest of corruption beneath the pretty suburban surface of things. It's obvious, no?
