My mother needed cataract surgery. Told she needed to pay > $600 for “better” trmt. I have issue with my eyes. Fm Dr referred me to optometrist where I had to pay Out/Pkt. Referred to Opthamologist. Just asked to do “non OHIP covered testing” for over $100. I said no. Doctors are exploiting us.

📍 The Data Centre, the Land Grab, and the Cease and Desist
Back in early January, Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation sent a cease and desist letter directly to the Premier’s office. Why? Because the province transferred a large piece of Crown land near Grande Prairie to O’Leary Ventures, a private company tied to Kevin O’Leary, to build a $70 billion AI data centre.
Here’s the kicker: the land in question sits within the Nation’s treaty territory, and they were never consulted. They found out about the transfer via a press release.
That’s not just a snub. That’s a violation of Section 35 of the Constitution, which protects Indigenous treaty rights including the right to be consulted and accommodated on decisions that affect their traditional lands.
So when Danielle Smith says she respects treaty rights, but then quietly hands over Indigenous land to a celebrity investor without consultation, the gap between words and actions becomes impossible to ignore.
And it gets more absurd. This week, an article surfaced revealing that an Alberta power company is expecting a rush of deals to supply natural gas-powered electricity to AI data centres this year. Yes, natural gas the same resource Smith claims the federal government is unfairly blocking.
So let’s recap:

Natural gas is apparently off-limits when it powers Alberta homes.

But it’s perfectly fine when it powers billion-dollar data centres built on treaty land without consent.

Maybe treaty rights are just... different when billionaires are involved?
