The sunrise gently blushes the underside of the clouds as the remains of an old ship builder's slipway are exposed by the low tide at Aberdeen Harbour. More info in the "Alt" description #fsprintmonday #sharemondays2025 #Scotland #Aberdeen @postabdn.com #photography #landscapephotography

The low tide at Aberdeen Harbour exposes the 100 year old remains of a slipway that was used by the "John Duthie Torry Shipbuilding Company," which was in use from 1904 to 1925.

The Duthie family were prominent shipbuilders in Aberdeen and had been building ships there since 1816.

On the horizon stands the mouth of Aberdeen Harbour, its mouth open between its protective sea walls with its buildings to the left, including the modern ",Marine Operations Centre" that belies the fact that "The Port Of Aberdeen" is Britains oldest existing business with it being established in 1136 by King David of Scotland.

Above the horizon, the light of the rising sun is gently kissing the underside of the clouds, giving them a subtle colour.
The texture of the clouds is contrasted by the water which is smoothed out by a 25 second exposure.

Last week I spent 5 days in the Kingdom of Fife and took many images which I hope to share soon. Here is a panoramic view of St Andrews which I took during the "Blue Hour" . I'm really pleased at how it came out. #sharemondays2025 #fsprintmonday #Scotland #photography #landscapephotography
A panormic view of St Andrews from ontop of the harbour wall.
Shot during the "Blue Hour", this image has a cool hue to it.

The harbour wall leads the eye to the centre of the image where the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral can be seen.

To the left of the Cathedral can be found the modern buildings lining the harbourside, the warm glow from their lights contrasting against the cool blues of the scene.

The right of the image is where St Andrews Castle is located.

A long exposure has smoothed out the water which is in contrast to the textured clouds, which frames the top of the image

Rum At Sunset I loved the colour contrast in this scene so just had to shoot it. Those warm hues clashing with the cold blues as the day diminished was stunning to witness. #landscapephotography #photography #Scotland #Seascape
The profile of the Scottish island of Rum sits, silhouetted, on the horizon.
The sun is setting out of the frame to the left but is casting the last of its light into the image, illuminating the underside of the clouds.
The sea is a soft blue that gradually grows paler as it comes ashore where the texture of the sand dominates the foreground.

Its been a while since I posted a new image as life has been getting in the way of pleasure. This is the wreck of "The Excelsior" which ran aground in North East #Scotland in 1881. All 12 crew were saved #photography #landscapephotography #ShareMondays2025 #Fsprintmonday
The timbers of a boat wreck protrude from the water like the rotton teath of a long dead sea creature.
The texture of the algea covered wood contrasts against the smooth blue water.
The wreck is curved like a jawbone from left to right.

The horizon divides the image in half, the upper section filled with blurred clouds that shows their movement during the long exposure of the image.

Details of the wreck:
"The Excelsior" was a Norwegian barque, which ran aground near Rattray Head in Scotland on November 22, 1881. The ship was carrying a cargo of phosphate rock from Coosaw River, South Carolina to Bo'ness (Falkirk, Scotland). The 12-member crew, along with a pilot, were all rescued.

While researching a possible story I may write, loosely based upon my ancestral history, I found that a curse was placed upon my family in 1525 by the Archbishop of Glasgow. Its epic and far too long to post here with the rest in the ALT text I think my ancestors were a tad naughty.
May the fire and the sword that stopped Adam from the gates of Paradise, stop them from the glory of Heaven, until they forebear, and make amends.

May the evil that fell upon cursed Cain, when he slew his brother Abel, needlessly, fall on them for the needless slaughter that they commit daily.

May the malediction that fell upon all the world, man and beast, and all that ever took life, when all were drowned by the flood of Noah, except Noah and his ark, fall upon them and drown them, man and beast, and make this realm free of them, for their wicked sins.

May the thunder and lightning which rained down upon Sodom and Gomorrah and all the lands surrounding them, and burned them for their vile sins, rain down upon them and burn them for their open sins.

May the evil and confusion that fell on the Gigantis for their opression and pride in building the Tower of Babylon, confound them and all their works, for their open callous disregard and oppression.

May all the plagues that fell upon Pharaoh and his people of Egypt, their lands, crops and cattle, fall upon them, their equipment, their places, their lands, their crops and livestock.

May the waters of the Tweed and other waters which they use, drown them, as the Red Sea drowned King Pharaoh and the people of Egypt, preserving God’s people of Israel.

May the earth open, split and cleave, and swallow them straight to hell, as it swallowed cursed Dathan and Abiron, who disobeyed Moses and the command of God.

May the wild fire that reduced Thore and his followers to two-hundred-fifty in number, and others from 14,000 to 7,000 at anys, usurping against Moses and Aaron, servants of God, suddenly burn and consume them daily, for opposing the commands of God and Holy Church.

May the malediction that suddenly fell upon fair Absalom, riding through the wood against his father, King David, when the branches of a tree knocked him from his horse and hanged him by the hair, fall upon these untrue Scotsmen and hang them the s…

Due to some various, uncontrollable but important issues I havent managed to take any new images recently so here is one from the vault This image of a groyne in the haar at #Aberdeen beach garnered 2nd place in the #Seascape Category in a competition #photography #Scotland #landscapephotography
A long exposure of water, which is smoothed out just enough to not lose almost if it's texture, along side a wooden beach groyne.
The groyne, covered in green algae, is placed on the right side of the image, diagonally from the bottom corner and stretching into the middle of the image. Its supports are to the left if the main groyne and dip into the water with a wooden, anchor stump just peeping out of the water too.
An old rope is hanging from the front most suport.
There is a thick haar (coastal fog) that obscures the horizon abd mutes the colour palate of the whole scene.
