Looks awesome! 🤘🤘 You could always improve, but likely you are learning a lot by debugging. Maybe take notes for later, and see if you can find better strategies for specific feature implementation on your next project?

My pleasure. :) I think that’s also key to making vfx. Got to break shit down to its most « unassuming » bits and not be put back by the simplicity of individual parts. —> “How do you eat an elephant?” ;)

Clare Pearce @fishtaod.bsky.social · 02/12/2024
Wow, really nailed the atmosphere! Should the lightpost light the sidewalk in front of it? and perhaps a bit of the phone booth to add some shadow play and extra depth?

From left to right: - particle system - fog volume - animated sprite - plane mesh with shader
110
Clare Pearce @fishtaod.bsky.social · 25/11/2024
But the fog volume is important to catch the light and give a more believable depth to the scene. I think there is also a base volumetric fog applied to the whole scene (but very low).
010
Clare Pearce @fishtaod.bsky.social · 25/11/2024
Haha, I wish it was the fog volume! Unfortunately it’s the billboarded animated sprite. :)

You could have Climbable and non-climbable blocks as an element for puzzle design.
010
Clare Pearce @fishtaod.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Combined with stacking on other bots, could help you reach higher areas. Maybe swaying mechanic when stacking too many boxes? Risk of falling if too ambitious? Always enjoy fun mechanical stuff like that.

Awesome, looking forward to hearing how it goes! ;)
010
Clare Pearce @fishtaod.bsky.social · 22/11/2024
Wow, there is something terribly kitsch about it. <3<3<3 The volumetric fog in your scene makes the room look bigger / deeper and more somber. The real one has a small more awkward feeling space. Imo. May I ask what you are going to do with the scene?

Clare Pearce @fishtaod.bsky.social · 22/11/2024
Haha, that's fair. Without a broader environment/context, could absolutely be sand.

Clare Pearce @fishtaod.bsky.social · 22/11/2024
For the fragment part, the shader mixes a base color with the screen texture (what is behind the mesh), which it distorts according to the noise texture, to simulate refraction. + Some fresnel effect. ...It's all somewhat basic stuff, but all put together, it looks nice. :) 3/3

Clare Pearce @fishtaod.bsky.social · 22/11/2024
The shader scrolls the mesh's UV and offsets vertexes following a noise texture, both forwards and downwards, creating the impression of varying volumes of water falling irregularly. 2/3

@piponazo19.bsky.social, @rekystudios.com, @duskitten.cubiixproject.xyz, @realkotob.bsky.social To make this, I used: - meshes <-- uv scrolling shader (see next posts), - billboarded animated sprites layered over mesh, - volumetric fog volume, - particles, - point lights behind waterfall 1/3

O brother... Love this (and the other ones you shared). Inspired me to make my own screen-based vertex snapping in Godot. So thanks. :)
