Zack McRae @fishousecrets.bsky.social · 03/10/2025

Paul doesn’t even know that I’m posting a picture of him working on this big collaborative painting we did together on the internet lol. Come see this and other pieces we made together at Salem on the edge gallery in Salem, OR tomorrow for the opening

A slow underpainting underway on this large sheet of arches oil paper is the first painting I’ve started on since finishing and submitting my collaborative body of paintings and sculptures to Salem on the Edge gallery in Salem, OR. The opening for that show is tomorrow evening, so come say hi

That last painting was a failure but I’m not throwing it away. I’m moving on to finally starting a collaborative piece which is the first one in a full gallery show that is going to happen sometime in the nearish distant future with me and a friend. I finally put the first makings on the wood…

This is the painting I’m currently working on. It’s definitely a change of pace, and I keep going back and forth on how I feel about it. I think I’ll have the background match the palette of the figure so the painting more closely resembles the sketch it’s based on, and there’s more linework to add

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.

I’m working on the second piece in this new color pastel series. Struggling a bit with it, as the first one set a high bar that I’m having trouble reaching. I actually started another one on the back of this canvas, which I abandoned and flipped over to start this. It’s coming though just need faith

Here is excavation 1 and 2. I still favor these first two, I think they are the best ones. I’m excited about the new series I’m working on, the first one is finished and I’m going to photograph it soon. #abstractart #automaticdrawing

Now that the excavation series is finished, I wanted to show them all together. Bluesky only lets you post 4 pictures at a time, so here are excavations 3-5. Each one is charcoal, graphite and India ink on raw canvas, 24”x28”. #abstractart #automaticdrawing

Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free." - For the last time, Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza. 23 and he knew to leave a death note.

PRESS

This is Hossam's team, and we are sharing his final message :
"If you're reading this, it means I have been killed
-most likely targeted-by the Israeli occupation forces. When this all began, I was only 21 years old-a college student with dreams like anyone else. For past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors in northern Gaza minute by minute, determined to show the world the truth they tried to bury. I slept on pavements, in schools, in tents
-anywhere I could. Each day was a battle for survival. I endured hunger for months, yet I never left my people's side.
By God, I fulfilled my duty as a journalist. I risked everything to report the truth, and now, I am finally at rest-something I haven't known in the past 18 months. I did all this because I believe in the Palestinian cause. I believe this land is ours, and it has been the highest honor of my life to die defending it and serving its people.
I ask you now: do not stop speaking about Gaza.
Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free."
- For the last time, Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza.

I started the first piece in a new series where I use use a soaking wet paint brush to smear colored chalk pastels on raw canvas, and then a pencil and India ink to emphasize the form and dimension of the automatic chaos structures imploding my mind palace. #drawing #abstractart #chalkpastel #art

I wish Elon would take a strong dose of psilocybin and spend several hours reading his own tweets. This will be indescribable mental agony, but it will be good for him, and probably good for the entire planet.

This is the current progress on excavation 5. This one is going to need a lot more Indian ink pen work than the others, and may be the last I do in this particular series, as I’m considering using colored chalk pastels in a new series to do the work that charcoal has been doing for these ones.

Wow. Rep. Chuck Edwards is getting torn apart at a town hall in Asheville, NC. “I’m a veteran & you don’t give a fuck about me. You don’t get to do this to us!” Edwards orders veteran to be thrown out. We’re approaching a tipping point now. Anger across the country is going to boil over soon.
