I traveled to Montreal during a blizzard, and then later in an Uber we talked with the Brazilian driver about the cold, and how actually back home in Minneapolis it was colder than in Montreal.

There's a world where freight trucking electrifies faster and eats the railroad's lunch. And then Amtrak starts running electric fast freight on the NEC, laying out a path to electrification and profitable operations all over the country.

With the amount of energy it takes to move one of those around, a solar panel could maybe provide a mile or two of range, not really worth the extra cost, complexity, and weight.

This voter just has strong feelings about the death of a college basketball player 40 years ago, when Ilhan was 3.

I live in a high trust society which means I lock my doors but I shovel my neighbor's sideways even though I kinda think they're jerks. As opposed to leaving my doors unlocked but being in an open feud with the neighbors because their bushes are too tall or something.

You don't need to use a pressure washer to clean out a litter box, but it's a hell of a lot more fun if you do.

After working in a drive thru in high school I refuse to ever use them. I will go inside nearly 100% of the time.

The most unrealistic part about Grand Theft Auto is that the police care when you hit someone with your car

I needed a picture of a stool (the thing you sit on) for a presentation so I searched wikimedia for "stool" and found lots of pictures of stools to sit on but also lots of pictures of... poop.

If your car is annoyingly loud to me inside my house, I can't imagine what it's like to sit in it for 20 minutes idling.

I've been on the hiring side and we would get oodles of candidates who would just apply to any open position regardless of their qualifications, and often require visa sponsorship when we clearly state that we don't sponsor visas, etc etc.

A good hose down and everything is fine. It's nice when you've got the right tools to make a job easy (had to swap out my garden hose for the good one from Home Depot)

I think the rebuilt station is going to have zero escalators, just more elevators and shallower stairs.
110
Peter Bajurny @fishmanpet.bajurny.us · 21/09/2026
As part of the shutdown they tore out all the treads and had elevator people doing stuff inside. And they took a few days longer after the train started running. And for a few days (I counted 4 for the south tower) they worked! And now they don't again.
110
Peter Bajurny @fishmanpet.bajurny.us · 21/09/2026
And the south tower escalator is currently cordoned off with maintenance barriers so it's actually less useful than when it was just broken but walkable for the past few years.

I wonder how much @metrotransitmn.bsky.social spent rebuilding the Lake St Midtown Station escalators, and was it worth it for less than a week of operations before they broke again.

Mentioned to my wife this morning that I'd bought some "senior bisque" (a liquid treat with some extra vitamins for elderly cats) and then we simultaneously blurted out "Señor Bisque" so now we're calling him that.

Never forget that the Milwaukee Road was electrified over the rockies but they tore it out for scrap rather than refurb it... right before the oil crisis hit.

It's easy to get annoyed at all these game days riders but I'm glad the stadium is downtown rather than in the suburbs, and I'm glad they took the train instead of driving, so I'll just smile as I bask in that post game energy.

Peter Bajurny @fishmanpet.bajurny.us · 16/09/2026
Leaving work just as the game gets out means directing these people on how to ride the train. That aisle is empty, you need to move to it so I can get on board
