"All I wanted to do was go home." Well Go USA has revealed a new US trailer for a Chinese film titled Once Upon a Time in the Middle East, telling the story of a Chinese restaurant in the Middle East that gets caught up in the middle of a war. This already opened in China in August, and it's their official submission to the Academy Awards this year. Interesting pick. The original title translates to Welcome to the Loong Restaurant. One of China’s biggest stars, Shen Teng, leads the acclaimed box office sensation about a chef who transforms a struggling restaurant into a refuge shelter & risks it all to protect his community. The anti-war film (also very anti-America) tells the story of Xu Fu, a philanthropic chef at a Chinese restaurant in the fictional city of Bahata in the Middle East. When a war erupts with the United States (who are seen as the villains), he transforms his restaurant into a refuge for a group of orphans trapped in the city, but he is caught in the crossfire. Whereas most war films mainly focus on heroism & battles, this one tells a humane story of ordinary civilians struggling to survive. The full cast includes Jiang Qiming, Omar Sharif, Aarif Lee Zhi-ting, and Sherif Sabby. Looks like it actually has a wholesome message about how food matters. // Continue Reading ›

"You are on that razor's edge digging into the darkness of this character, but also you have empathy for him." We're finally weeks away from the opening of this movie. How will it turn out? Will DC's experiment in comic book horror be successful? WB & DC Studios debuted one final "Get Tickets Now" promo trailer for the Clayface movie, a standalone DC movie set in Gotham City. The first ever DC horror thriller, based on the comic book character of Clayface from the Batman universe. An eerie body horror story about an up-and-coming actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster. He turns to a scientist who transforms his body into clay. About "the loss of one's identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition." Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen who becomes "Clayface", with Eddie Marsan, Max Minghella, Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Nancy Carroll, Joshua James. Produced by The Batman's Matt Reeves and features a screenplay co-written by horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan. This final promo is a behind-the-scenes look, with Matt Reeves and DC's James Gunn featured actually talking about crafting this and trying something completely new & different. I hope it's good! There's real potential in the concept! Even if the footage hasn't been all that impressive yet... Will you go see Clayface when it hits theaters soon? // Continue Reading ›

"Who am I?!" Warner Bros (RIP) has debuted an official trailer for a film called Model Citizen, a strange sci-fi action thriller directed by Tag Mendillo. They're clearly dumping this out there - sending it direct to VOD without much pizazz or care. Model Citizen stars Aaron Eckhart as Steven Bay, a former cop haunted by amnesia and fragments of a life he can no longer remember. Seeking treatment while working on a farm, Steven finds himself trapped within an increasingly unsettling world of constant surveillance, constantly mounting suspicion, and unexplained instincts that suggest someone is controlling more than his recovery. As reality begins to fracture around him, Steven launches a desperate search for answers, uncovering a web of technology, manipulation & human experimentation. So is he RoboCop? Or is he more like Gyllenhaal in Source Code or Dan Stevens in The Guest? This also co-stars Emmanuelle Chriqui. A pulse-pounding sci-fi crime thriller where identity is a weapon, memory is a prison, and the truth may be impossible to escape. This one looks like an instantly forgettable film to ignore – there's just no way this is any good. Have a look. // Continue Reading ›

"The greatest gift you could give someone is a story." Signature Ent. revealed the official UK trailer for the movie Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint, a feel-good holiday comedy from the UK ready for release over there this fall. No US date yet - but if this film is good enough it'll play in the US soon. An amateur version of A Christmas Carol at a retirement home is reluctantly directed by reclusive man named Aubrey Flint sent there on community service. When the show is threatened and a close friend is lost, Aubrey must choose between retreating into solitude or risking everything to save the home—and rediscovering the warmth he thought he'd lost forever. From the streets of York to a makeshift stage, Aubrey not only realizes the power of the local community but also rediscovers the magic of the season. It looks like an actual attempt at a fun new A Christmas Carol remake, taking a regular ol' curmudgeonly guy & showing him how to find joy again. // Continue Reading ›

"If you're going to play this part, there is to be no more talk of death." "That might be tricky..." Studiocanal unveiled their own new official UK trailer (here's the US one) for acclaimed LGBTQ indie drama Elsinore, the story of actor Ian Charleson. Directed by fellow actor Simon Stone, it premiered at the 2026 Telluride Film Festival and also played at TIFF, next screening at the London, Mill Valley, Montclair, Chicago Film Festivals this fall. The powerful, vividly emotional and inspiring story of the actor Ian Charleson who faced incredible odds and a tragic AIDS diagnosis while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London. TIFF adds: "Andrew Scott delivers a career-best performance in Elsinore, wondrously celebrating both Charleson and Hamlet on screen. Through Scott, each real and fictional man’s confrontation with death becomes visceral, profoundly moving, and resoundingly answers Shakespeare's famed question with 'to be.'" Andrew Scott stars with Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Joe Locke, Peter Mullan, Charles Edwards, and Juliet Stevenson. This is a better trailer than the other one and teases a magnificent look at a genuinely soulful & vibrant individual striving to live a "glorious" life. // Continue Reading ›

"At Video Castle, we have a selection fit for a King! Or a Queen!" Reel Splatter Productions has revealed the first look teaser trailer for an indie horror creation called Dead Format, which is finishing up and getting ready for release in 2027. Not to be confused with the video game also called Dead Format, while both are about VHS, this one is a feature film not a game. Both look good anyway! During the final days of the video store era, a collector desperately clinging to the past while grieving his father's death finds a mysterious tape at his local video store and discovers that nostalgia can come at a terrible price. It's set at a place called the Video Castle – and it definitely reminds me of video stores I used to frequent as a kid. The indie horror film stars Mark Worth as Kevin, Joey Cook, Austin Greene, Fia Thomson, Mia Grichendler, Henry Sirota, Chet Williamson, Matt Lake. Made by Reel Splatter with lots of practical FX and old school VHS vibes all over the place. Something about a cursed VHS tape? Keep an eye out for this one landing next year. // Continue Reading ›

"Just keep driving." Our friends at The Film Stage have unveiled the first trailer for the film The Remotes, an intriguing Filipino sci-fi mystery thriller made by filmmaker John Torres based in Manila. This played at the New York Film Festival and it also played a TIFF this fall. The intro explains: "Fashioned in part as a response to the Philippines’ longtime president Rodrigo Duterte's 'war on drugs' and the country's resultant surveillance state, Torres's drifting, impressionistic film expands and compresses time..." Called a sinister "sci-fi-tinged neo-noir", the film follows a grieving detective who investigates two sisters linked to a sinister navigation app, only to find himself slowly surrendering to the unseen voices controlling the city and his own lingering sorrow. Starring Alchris Galura, Gabby Padilla, Julia Richards, and Enchong Dee. Director John Torres adds: "The Remotes is about how longing can become infrastructure. How grief stifles us while technology listens in & automates our choices in life. It is a world where people willingly surrender to it because it brings them closer to someone they lost, or someone they used to be." Yep that sounds pretty sad and this looks pretty good – especially for fans of slow cinema and experimental art house genre films. // Continue Reading ›

"I just don't want to get in trouble for lying... He said it makes it worse when you lie." Peacock debuted the main official trailer for the thriller series The Good Daughter, ready for streaming in November. Created and written by Karin Slaughter, based on her novel – which was described as a "Chilling Psychological Horror Novel of Family Bonds and Haunting Memories." This looks creepy! Sisters Charlotte & Samantha Quinn have spent the last 20 years trying to piece together lives that were fractured in a night of violence. When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte – now a lawyer like her father – is the first witness on the scene. As the case unfolds and twists through painful memories and buried secrets, what emerges is not just a story of survival, but of enduring ties and complex bonds. Starring Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy as Samantha & Charlotte, with Brendan Gleeson, Harper Steele, Paula Malcomson, Jake McDorman, Olivia Williams, and Michael Dorman. There are so many hints in this trailer about something else going on, something darker & scarier in the shadows of this town. These dual storylines are unnerving and it will be interesting to see how this all plays out with everything coming together at the end. // Continue Reading ›

"I gotta have faith!" Bleecker Street revealed one final promo trailer for the upcoming concert doc George Michael: The Faith Tour, hitting theaters worldwide this fall. The film is a magnificent celebration of iconic musician George Michael and a time capsule look back at an iconic moment in his life and career. Assembled from rediscovered, previously unseen & unheard 35mm footage of his 1988 show at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, this concert movie captures George at the height of his creative power during the record-breaking Faith Tour. An original short film by Mary McCartney opens the feature, using newly discovered audio and imagery from his "Faith Era" in 1986–1988, offering a vivid insight into this pivotal moment in his life. It's especially exciting to watch this because it was originally shot on 35mm film, and has been updated into pristine 4K now for everyone to enjoy on the big screen. "I'm not gonna let you near Kestar." It's time! Now available to play. Fuse Games has revealed their final official trailer for the Star Wars: Galactic Racer video game taking us back to the world of podracing. I'm mega excited for this game! And I'm posting these trailers and breaking our own rules about video games because it looks awesome. I loved the N64 game Star Wars Episode I: Racer while growing up, featuring pod racing from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (both were originally released the same year in 1999). An update nearly 30 years later - Galactic Racer is a runs-based, high-stakes reinvention of racing born in the lawless Outer Rim of the Star Wars galaxy. The campaign is set in the New Republic Era and takes place on the planet Jakku seen in The Force Awakens along with others like Crait. With the Empire now gone and the galaxy rebuilding, The Galactic League is formed: an underground, unsanctioned circuit where syndicates bankroll chaos and new champions are forged. We featured the original trailer late last year and a story trailer recently. This final trailer is all gameplay footage and I'm totally sold. Let's race. // Continue Reading ›

"Be a good girl and just go home, Misty!" Netflix has revealed the official trailer for the movie Heartland, a country western movie starring Jessica Chastain as a country legend who has been gone for 20 years but decides to return. From director Shana Feste, of The Greatest, Country Strong, Endless Love, Boundaries, Run Sweetheart Run, comes another film set in Nashville. Former country megastar, Misty Jones, comes out of seclusion to investigate the disappearance of her missing niece, a rising country musician, and must grapple with her own past and Nashville’s seedy underbelly. Her search uncovers a murky side of Nashville where no one, including Misty, is who they seem. Starring Jessica Chastain, Garrett Hedlund, Carter Faith, Ross Lynch, Paul Sparks, Jennifer Nettles, and John Hawkes. The film's official Heartland soundtrack features original performances from the film's cast, including Chastain, 3-time Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles, Ross Lynch and CMA nominee Carter Faith, alongside Margo Price, Carly Pearce, Eddy Dunlap, Channing Wilson, and Dave "Fergie" Ferguson. I dig how this twists from a twangy country western comeback into an intense mystery thriller about solving a crime & bringing down bad people. Go, Misty, go! // Continue Reading ›

"Why do you want to fight?" "Because I can't sing or dance!" 🥊 Has it really truly been 50 years?! Yes it has! The very first Rocky movie opened in December 1976. It became a major box office hit before going on to win Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Editing at the Oscars in 1977. Fathom brings it back to theaters this November for another round on the big screen. "The film that inspired a nation... Audiences cheered this American success story of an 'everyman' triumphing over all odds. As the boxer Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) comes out swinging with heart, humor and unforgettable power as he 'goes the distance' against World Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed in this unforgettable film!" Sly Stallone stars in this with Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed, Talia Shire as "Adrian", Burt Young as Paulie, and Burgess Meredith as Mickey. This is also timed with the release of the upcoming I Play Rocky movie, a fictionalized version of the making of this original film and how they pulled off a tiny miracle filming it. This OG Philly sports movie is a genuine classic! Always fun to watch, still inspiring, still entertaining. Rocky will live on forever & ever. // Continue Reading ›

"We were almost there... We were this close..." Don't miss the peloton when they come! Another delightfully entertaining animated short film to enjoy from France. Direction les Champs is a 7-min animated short made as a graduation project by students at the prestigious animation school Gobelins in Paris. Charmant! Featuring a nicely painted 2D look with emotional animation, telling the story of a young girl and her older brother. This summer, the Tour de France is finally coming by the tiny village of Laventour. For our 8-years-old Sophie, there is no way her big brother Benoît can miss it. She does what she needs to do to try and get them to watch the event. FS has featured many, many excellent Gobelins short films over the years – Nube this year, Tears of the Mountain & Niccolo last year, plus the Miyazaki short, and the distinct horror short Hôtel Nuit Noire. What I love about this one Direction les Champs is the way the animation style switches into a more visually goofy, wacky look at times like when they're riding the scooter by the cows. Yet there's still so much genuine humanity in this story and where it goes. Absolutely magnificent work here! Congrats. // Continue Reading ›

"You can't make them respect you, you have to earn it." Prime Video revealed their first look teaser trailer for their new Barbershop comedy series, a remake/update on the classic Barbershop comedy films. Actor Jermaine Fowler stars in the lead role of "Trav" in this update on the Chicago barbershop and its patrons. "Fresh cuts coming February 10, walk-ins welcome." Travis Porter aims to be a barber like his grandfather at Chicago's Calvin's barbershop – where the tradition of great cuts and community spirit lives on through lively debates and gatherings. Starring Jermaine Fowler, Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, Langston Kerman. The original Barbershop movie debuted back in 2002, directed by Tim Story, with Ice Cube as Calvin. They eventually made 3 sequels over the years: Barbershop 2: Back in Business (2004), Beauty Shop (2005), Barbershop: The Next Cut (2015). Now they're giving it a new look and restarting things with a whole new young barber. Fowler is super talented and I'm jazzed to see him in this lead role. So far so good, this footage ain't so bad. // Continue Reading ›

"Does the film I'm making mean something cinematically?" Netflix has revealed a behind-the-scenes promo video for the excellent Korean film Possible Love, the latest feature made by the acclaimed filmmaker Lee Chang-dong. An extensive 10 minute video with Lee Chang-dong discussing the making of it. I've seen it and it's a terrific film! This is his first new film in 8 years since last making Burning. The story follows two married couples — a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary filmmaker and her husband — whose paths cross when the filmmaker sets out to film them, bringing them face to face with their different lives & hidden desires. These complex emotional entanglements challenge their relationships and force the group to confront uncomfortable truths about love & commitment. Starring Jeon Do-yeon as Mi-ok, Sul Kyung-gu as Ho-seok, Zo In-sung as Sang-woo, and Cho Yeo-jeong as Ye-ji. This premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival and also played at TIFF to fantastic reviews from critics (here's my full review). This featurette covers so many areas - from the story to the actors to the performances to the themes, and what he wants us to take away from it. A 10-mins masterclass from a master filmmaker on his latest work of cinema. Enjoy. // Continue Reading ›

"In a crisis, we discover who we are and what's important to us." Netflix has revealed the second & final official trailer for the film Animals directed by and starring Ben Affleck, his next feature after directing Air in 2024. This film is opening this week in October - it will be streaming on Netflix and available in some theaters as well. When their son is kidnapped, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife find themselves drawn into a web of deception. As they scramble to raise the large ransom payment, they're forced to make choices that could tear their world apart. "How far would you go to protect your family? Who can you trust?" In Animals, Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball (Ben Affleck) faces those very questions. When he receives an ominous phone call, Mark & his wife Abigail scramble to respond to a threat that could upend their carefully constructed life. The ensemble cast features Ben Affleck & Kerry Washington, along with Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Christopher Woodley, Matt Gerald, Jacob Estrada, Steven Yeun, and Luis Gerardo Méndez. As much as they are trying to hype up this intensely emotional remake of High and Low, it looks instantly forgettable and so bland. I doubt Affleck has anything new to say or add to this kidnapping story, and nothing in this footage makes it look like this is worth a watch. Oh well. // Continue Reading ›

"You need to get to the station core now!" Epic Pictures has revealed an official US trailer for Free Fall, a Russian sci-fi thriller that is basically a Russian copy of Gravity. This is finally getting a VOD release this month in the US to watch at home anytime, after first opening in Russia back in 2023 and also releasing internationally last year. Cut off from his crew by a devastating proton storm, repairman Max drifts alone through open space and must trust Delta dispatcher Anna to bring him home alive. But survival has never felt so uncertain – and what is she up to anyway? Directed by Oleg Urazaykin, Free Fall stars Aleksandr Kuznetsov as Maksim ("Max"), Anna Chipovskaya as the dispatcher voice Anna, along with Andrey Merzlikin. The big difference from Gravity is there's this other voice guiding him to save himself. Though it sounds like she might be trying to sabotage the station? This version features a British voicecast dubbing it into English for the release. At the least VFX look pretty good – making this actually feel thrilling. Lock in. // Continue Reading ›

"A feel-good love story in a feel-bad place." An official trailer is available for the clever romantic comedy film titled No Good Men, made by an Afghan filmmaker named Shahrbanoo Sadat as her latest feature film. This initially premiered as the opening film at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, and has been touring around at many other fests, playing at the London & Warsaw Film Fests next coming up this fall. Shahrbanoo Sadat also stars in the lead role as Naru, who films cooking shows for a local TV station but despises men after her ex-husband's affairs. She lives with her 3-year-old son in her parents' Kabul apartment, trying to get full custody of her child, though Afghan law still favors the father. Naru is therefore caught off guard when Qodrat, Kabul TV’s most important journalist, offers her a career opportunity. As the two criss-cross the city reporting on its last days of freedom back in 2021, sparks fly between them and Naru starts to doubt her conviction. Could there be a good man out there after all? 🇦🇫 This is a fun one with some unique filmmaking sensibilities. I've seen it already, and I'd say it's worth a watch if you're curious about it. // Continue Reading ›

"You actually do think he's innocent?" "Yeah." Kino Lorber released their official trailer for a film titled Re-Creation, a modern day update on the classic jury deliberation movie 12 Angry Men this time made by the Irish filmmaker Jim Sheridan. This premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival last year and is already out on VOD to watch now at home if you want to see how the story plays out. This one skipped theaters entirely. A fictionalized courtroom trial set in Ireland exploring the murder of French producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier, questioning facts and debating the innocence of her convicted murderer, Ian Bailey. Co-Directed by Oscar-nominee Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father, My Left Foot) and inspired by 12 Angry Men, Re-Creation is a heady, haunting courtroom thriller that invites the viewer to draw their own conclusions. The film stars Vicky Krieps as Juror #8, with Jim Sheridan, Aidan Gillen, Colm Meaney, and John Connors. This looks like a compelling case to follow, though again makes me think of Eastwood's Juror #2. // Continue Reading ›

"And that is the legend of the very first peanut butter and jelly sandwich." Pixar has debuted another fun short film to enjoy - this one is titled Fruit & Nut, an experimental short created in their unique Pixar Labs program. The 7-minute short film is a stop-motion short featuring a hippie strawberry and penniless peanut going wild in an obvious Thelma & Louise homage. This is the second stop-motion film ever made by Pixar, following another experimental short called Self recently. This was created by the two Pixar story artists Rej Bourdages & Tony Maki as part of the "A Pixar Artist's Short Film" series playing on YouTube. Which is the spiritual successor to their Spark Shorts – Pixar was letting artists make their own shorts experimenting in fun ways. Fruit & Nut is an amusing, creative lil' tale of how PB&J sandwiches all started. 🍓🥜 View below. // Continue Reading ›

"To us." "My Lore." "Your Harry." Screen has debuted the first official trailer for a charming indie film from Germany titled Love, After All, which is premiering at the Zurich Film Festival underway now. Made by German director Andreas Dresen (of Cloud 9, Gundermann, From Hilde With Love), the film is titled Alte Liebe (Old Love) in German and will open in Germany this October. A couple married for 40 years have grown distant. When their young granddaughter visits and their adult daughter announces her engagement to an older industrialist, their stagnant routine is disrupted. It seems like this "disruption" allows them a chance to rediscover each other & fall in love all over again. Starring Dagmar Manzel as Lore & Joachim Król as Harry, with Anna von Seld & Liane Düsterhöft. ZFF states it's "a heartwarming, down-to-earth love story with authentic characters and plenty of humor." A very nice little film about growing old together. // Continue Reading ›

"We can't leave you like this!" Dark Sky Films has revealed an official trailer for a horror comedy film titled Flush, a totally bonkers French genre film about a dude stuck inside of a toilet. Yes – it is disgusting and gnarly and totally hilarious. Why not? The horror genre gets even weirder and more creative than ever each year. Remember that scene in Trainspotting? Just imagine that but even worse for an entire film. A middle-aged cocaine addict gets stuck in a club bathroom after stealing drugs while trying to win back his ex-girlfriend. His night spirals into chaos through increasingly bizarre and grotesque events – from a junkie rat to dangerous dealers. Worst of all, his head is stuck down in one of those extra gross squat toilets that is just a hole in the ground. The film stars R. Jonathan Lambert as Luc (or Luke), with Élodie Navarre, Elliot Jenicot & Rémy Adriaens. File this under "you've really never seen anything like this before." Have fun. // Continue Reading ›

"You start to lose who you are." Kino Lorber is releasing this documentary this month for everyone to view. Kim Novak's Vertigo is one of the latest doc creations from cinema filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe, who has been making endless docs about movie history. This focuses not only on Hitchcock's iconic classic Vertigo (1958), but it's mainly about the life and success and truth of the iconic actress Kim Novak. Decades later, in this fascinating and intimate documentary portrait, Novak dives deep into what the film means to her. Alex O. gets Kim to open up about her career, her life as an artist, her work with Hitchcock, and so much more - I was utterly fascinated by this doc (read my full review). An investigative re-examination of the iconic video footage of Sasquatch walking by in a forest. Out to watch later this month. On October 20th, 1967, Roger Patterson captured 59 seconds of film showing a creature walking through the Northern California woods—irrefutable footage that has become the most analyzed and debated in history (as seen here). 57 years later, a reel of 16mm film discovered in a safe changes everything. "We cannot tell your mom about this." Saban Films has revealed the main official trailer for The Holiday Hitman, a British action comedy film from filmmaker Bradley Stryker. This hunk of holiday junk is being dumped on VOD in November during the holiday season. Alas, this looks as bad as The Asylum ripping off Violent Night and Nobody, churning out an instant forgettable, entirely worthless action copycat. Hitman Hank Carter is trying to save his marriage with the perfect family Christmas, unfortunately for him, a hit has been put on his head, and a gang of festive bounty hunters will stop at nothing to collect the big payday. Starring Nick Sagar as Hank Carter. Waves of holiday-themed hitmen descend on the mansion, and Hank must fend them off using every Christmas decoration in sight. The cast also includes Montana Manning, Gabriela Ochoa Perez, Ricky Norwood, Florence Hall, Eloise Lovell Anderson, Vas Blackwood, Mark Fleischmann. I wish any of this looked remotely fun, but even the action looks lame! Skip this one. // Continue Reading ›

"Much better..." She's back... again!! Ahahaha. The third movie in this action horror movie trilogy is coming up this year. Quiver Distr. has debuted the first two teasers for the film The Last Temptation of Becky, the next sequel following Becky (2020) and The Wrath of Becky (2023) before. Now a CIA field agent, Becky goes undercover in Poland to infiltrate a family running an inn at The Wolf's Lair, one of Hitler's bunkers. When she learns the father, Wilhelm Reuss, plans to spark the Fourth Reich, Becky must stop him. Starring Lulu Wilson returning as Becky again, Kate Siegel, Brandon Flynn, Catherine Walker, with James Urbaniak and Neil Patrick Harris. This premiered at the 2026 Fantasia Film Festival already earlier this year, and will hit theaters this fall before it's at home to watch after. Are there really that many "Becky" fans out there to support an entire trilogy of these fun action movies? And will they keep making more after this? // Continue Reading ›

"I never thought you'd settle..." Neon has revealed the main official US trailer for a lovely indie film titled Clarissa – a modern day adaptation of the classic novel Mrs Dalloway but it's set in Lagos, Nigeria this time. The film first premiered the the 2026 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and also recently played at the Toronto & Zurich Film Fests as well. Made by the brothers Arie Esiri & Chuko Esiri as their second feature so far. The story follows a Lagos society wife preparing for a party while reflecting on her youth and the choices that led her to marry a respected man instead of her poet boyfriend. The exceptional main cast features Sophie Okonedo, India Amarteifio, David Oyelowo, Ayo Edebiri, Toheeb Jimoh, Nikki Amuka-Bird. Via TIFF: "Abetted by Jonathan Bloom's magnificent 35mm cinematography and meticulous attention to detail... [The Esiris' take on] Clarissa immerses us in a suspended moment in time—a time of introspection, existential crisis, and re-examination of the past. By choosing to focus on individual destinies rather than collective ones, the Esiri brothers offer us precious portraits in a unique and impressive style." It looks very tender and charming, and the cinematography appears so light and lovely. Quite curious to see it. // Continue Reading ›

"I love you so much it hurts!" Netflix debuted the main official trailer for Gentle Monster, an unsettling thriller film ready to view starting in November in the fall. Not one of my favorites from this year - Gentle Monster first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. From Austrian filmmaker Marie Kreutzer, this disconcerting child abuse drama is about a pianist whose life unravels when the police come to arrest her husband. When a police raid shatters her life, a concert pianist must protect her son and confront how little she knows her husband after he is arrested for an unspeakable crime – yep he is actually a pedophile. She uncovers this life-shattering truth that forces her to confront the complexities of love, trust, and deception. Léa Seydoux stars as Lucy Weiss, along with Laurence Rupp, Jella Haase, and Catherine Deneuve. Featuring music by Camille. The film switches between German, French, and English conversations all the time, which doesn't really work well, but so be it. I wish this was better at exploring any of the tricky topics it wants to get into, but this really fails at discussing anything. An extra empty, meaningless movie to ignore. // Continue Reading ›

"Free me. And save your son." Who's ready for this? Disney launched a thrilling second trailer for the next MCU spin-off series VisionQuest, a continuation of the acclaimed Marvel series WandaVision a few years back. The series is debuting to watch streaming on Disney+ in just a few weeks for viewing in the fall. This series follows vibranium android The Vision, played by Paul Bettany, trying to regain his memory and humanity (despite being a robot). He's now in hiding, but when a bounty is placed on his head, Vision is forced to forge real connections and embrace found family if he's to survive. The series cast includes Bettany as Vision, James Spader as Ultron returning with sneaky some tricks up his sleeves, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff, T'Nia Miller as Jocasta, plus a new cast of AI characters: Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E, Jonathan Sayer as U, and of course James D'Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S. I admire how full-on sci-fi and technological this spin-off series is, along with keeping it emotional and visually vibrant. Seems like it'll be worth the watch. 📺 // Continue Reading ›

Paramount Pictures has revealed their second official trailer for the Ebenezer movie, also known as Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, an extra grumpy dark comedy (+ supernatural horror) update on this classic A Christmas Carol story from Charles Dickens. Ready for release in November this fall playing in theaters everywhere. From horror director Ti West comes Ebenezer – "The name you know, the story you don’t." Bah! Humbug! "When all else fails, you hit 'em with the truth. Hit 'em with the hard truth. Just bang, bang, bang!" Yep. Get the truth out there, never be afraid to say it. But will the truth piss off people? Will it upset viewers? Of course it will! That is why the truth is so scary. Unless, like Digger Rockwell, you can craft a narrative out of it & twist it to your advantage. "Digger here got us in this mess, and Digger's gonna dig us out again," doofus President Compson shouts at one point. And that's exactly what he's going to do! Or is he? Digger is the latest creation from Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu and it's a doozy. After all the secrets and careful marketing and cryptic teases, we now know what Digger really is. It turns out it's a climate change satire making fun of satires, showing us how the world enjoys stories so much, they forget to actually go & solve major problems the real world. Yes it's true – some people are going to hate this movie (more later), some people are going to love it. I'm the latter - Digger is as sharp as Dr. Strangelove, as angry as Don't Look Up, but with Iñárritu's brilliant theatricality commenting on how doomed the world is now. // Continue Reading ›

"You can't go anywhere now." Banana Film debuted the first promo trailer for a dark comedy titled Sister Brother Manhole Cover, the new feature film from North Macedonian filmmaker Milcho Manchevski. This one is premiering at the 2026 Tokyo Film Festival coming up this fall, and they've launched a trailer to build some buzz for its unveiling. This dark centers on siblings Malina and Viktor, a sister & brother barely getting by at the edges of Macedonian society. To keep going, the pair sell bronze busts & manhole covers. Their chaotic path eventually brings them to a wealthy elderly woman who is blind. Her mix of hardness & kindness makes them re-examine their own sense of right & wrong, and see what it means to be devoted to another. Starring Sara Klimoska, Filip Trajkovikj, Sonja Mihajlova. "Our anti-heroes defiantly refuse to identify as victims," explains Manchevski. It's "a story of great love and unconditional acceptance that is not erotic." This looks very funky and entirely original, and hopefully as enjoyable as it promises it might be. // Continue Reading ›

"They are huge – we have landscape, they're epic, the story is complex." "You just get on the horse and you tackle it head on, you just decide to dive in." Netflix has debuted a making of promo for the East of Eden series – out for streaming this week. The video is called "How Zoe Kazan Reimagined a Steinbeck Classic" with narration from Kazan explaining her vision of this new take on the novel. This modern version of John Steinbeck's masterpiece will explore the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, focusing new attention on its indelible antihero, Cathy Ames – played by Florence Pugh in this version of the story. The book was turned into the James Dean classic movie East of Eden. This 7 episode series offers a compelling perspective on the ways in which a family's history impacts a person's present reality. In addition to Pugh playing the lead as Cathy Ames, the series stars Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist as Adam and Charles Trask, with Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Ciarán Hinds, Martha Plimpton, Joseph Zada, and Joe Anders. "A portrait of one family, but also of a society that is rapidly changing, in which men & women must navigate difficult decisions, and come face-to-face with the reality that, ultimately, you are what you choose." This seriously looks like a thrilling update of East of Eden with so much depth in every aspect of the filmmaking. // Continue Reading ›

"Every man should pull a boat over a mountain once in his life." While this year's Venice Film Festival, an incredible and unexpected opportunity arose to speak with maestro Werner Herzog. Naturally, I couldn't pass it up. Herzog came to Venice this year (after receiving a Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion in Venice just last year) to present his new film Bucking Fastard, a narrative feature about twin sisters who speak in unison. It's Herzog's 21st narrative movie so far, not counting any of his docs, and it's dedicated to David Lynch. Bucking Fastard stars real life sisters / actors Kate Mara and Rooney Mara as Jean and Joan Holbrooke, inspired by the real life British identical twin sisters Freda and Greta Chaplin. It's a strange and peculiar story, something only Herzog could dream up and bring to life on screen, and it features a mystical fox that appears in the second half of the film 🦊 (which he briefly talks about in the interview). Aside from asking Herzog about this film, it was the perfect opportunity to spend a few minutes talking with the iconic German director about cinema in general & his thoughts on the world today. A genuine honor to meet him. // Continue Reading ›

"You're invited to the cinematic event of the season." In theaters in a few weeks - and I highly recommend watching it! Focus Features has debuted the joyful second & final official trailer for this year's Sense and Sensibility movie, a brand new cinematic version of the iconic Jane Austen story first published in 1811. Yesterday we also posted the excellent behind-the-scenes featurette for filmmaker Georgia Oakley's vision of this tale of sisters and romance. It has been adapted plenty of times before – most notably in 1996 as Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility starring Kate Winslet & Emma Thompson. From Focus Features & Working Title comes an irresistible new take Austen's story: charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of sisterhood and young love. With Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The film's exquisite ensemble cast features Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, & Fiona Shaw (the best). This is one of my favorite films of 2026! And I was not expecting to enjoy it this much but it's one of the most wonderful feel-good flicks of the year. // Continue Reading ›

"It's changed me." "DreamQuil does the work to rebalance you from the inside." Republic Pictures revealed the first official trailer for a strange sci-fi thriller titled DreamQuil, the story of an AI wellness program gone haywire. This psychological thriller / tech horror is created by Alex Prager as her feature directorial debut - it first premiered at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival earlier in the year. A woman embarks on a virtual wellness retreat in order to get her life back on track – with nightmarish consequences. Elizabeth Banks stars as Carol, a dissatisfied mother and housewife who heads to a virtual wellness retreat hoping to get her life back on track, only to return home and discover that a robotic version of herself has taken her place. Also starring John C. Reilly as her husband Gary, who actually seems to like the robotic Carol a bit more, of course. The impressive cast features Banks & Reilly, plus Juliette Lewis, Sofia Boutella, Kathryn Newton, Lamorne Morris, Toby Larsen, and Anna Marie Dobbins. This looks way more like a play than an actual film. Not the most original idea, not the most interesting-looking film, despite the cast in it. // Continue Reading ›

Buffalo 8 has debuted the official trailer for an indie horror creation called The Living Tree, the latest "what if AI was evil" tech horror movie to watch. Or to skip. "Maria is a true net positive in this world." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for a biopic documentary film titled Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story, a story about the life & jokes of comedian and actor Maria Bamford. The doc originally premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This is one of four new major docs about comedy and iconic comedians that Netflix is releasing this fall – along with: Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald, Who Is Martin Mull?, and SCTV: The Greatest Show You've Never Heard Of. Since the 1990s, Maria Bamford has built a career on turning radical honesty into radical comedy. In this doc, co-directors Judd Apatow & Neil Berkeley trace the comedian’s path — and pathos — from her childhood in Duluth, MN, to her hard-won fame in Los Angeles and her present-day life, showing how Bamford's mental health journey and her family relationships shaped her art and career. This looks like an unconventional documentary about a totally unconventional comedian. Should be a good one. // Continue Reading ›

"You have to be what you're meant to be. A man!" Netflix unveiled their main official trailer for the highly acclaimed film La Bola Negra, one of the biggest surprise hits from the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. This just won the coveted People's Choice Award top prize at the Toronto Film Festival and opens in US theaters starting in November this fall. The title La Bola Negra means The Black Ball in English, a reference to an actual event and story that the film is inspired by (and tells within the story in the film as well). This film is a 2026 must watch! A ravishing musical! The triptych plot is set across the years 1932, 1937, 2017 in Spain, exploring the inter-connected lives of three gay men throughout Spanish history. "The people who come here want to live, Ian. You – on the other hand – only want to play Hamlet." Focus Features has revealed the first official trailer for the LGBTQ indie drama Elsinore, the story of actor Ian Charleson. Directed by fellow actor Simon Stone, this film premiered at the 2026 Telluride Film Festival earlier this month and also played at TIFF, with debuts at London, Mill Valley, Montclair, Chicago, and AFI Fest coming up soon. Andrew Scott stars with Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Joe Locke, Peter Mullan, Charles Edwards, and Juliet Stevenson. This is all so similar to Ira Sachs' film The Man I Love also this year. Will Andrew Scott win an Oscar playing this role? Watch & find out this fall. // Continue Reading ›

This originally premiered at Berlinale 2026 earlier this year, and it also played at Telluride and New York, with Vancouver, London & Chicago up next. It already debuted in Germany in April but won't open in the US until December - trying an awards season release. It's Austria's official entry to the 99th Academy Awards. NYFF adds: "this meticulously detailed historical drama about a woman's drive toward self-empowerment elegantly dramatizes the two-sided coin of human nature—the striving for personal freedom we all crave and the narrow-minded bigotry that stands in our way." Everyone is talking about how great Sandra is in this film. "Every life, every day is a political act — so we cannot hide," states Schleinzer, who's queer. "We have to change things if we want to have a better life as a community." The film also stars Caro Braun, Marisa Growaldt, Godehard Giese, Augustino Renken. Take a look. // Continue Reading ›
