"They are huge – we have landscape, they're epic, the story is complex." "You just get on the horse and you tackle it head on, you just decide to dive in." Netflix has debuted a making of promo for the East of Eden series – out for streaming this week. The video is called "How Zoe Kazan Reimagined a Steinbeck Classic" with narration from Kazan explaining her vision of this new take on the novel. This modern version of John Steinbeck's masterpiece will explore the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, focusing new attention on its indelible antihero, Cathy Ames – played by Florence Pugh in this version of the story. The book was turned into the James Dean classic movie East of Eden. This 7 episode series offers a compelling perspective on the ways in which a family's history impacts a person's present reality. In addition to Pugh playing the lead as Cathy Ames, the series stars Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist as Adam and Charles Trask, with Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Ciarán Hinds, Martha Plimpton, Joseph Zada, and Joe Anders. "A portrait of one family, but also of a society that is rapidly changing, in which men & women must navigate difficult decisions, and come face-to-face with the reality that, ultimately, you are what you choose." This seriously looks like a thrilling update of East of Eden with so much depth in every aspect of the filmmaking. // Continue Reading ›

"Every man should pull a boat over a mountain once in his life." While this year's Venice Film Festival, an incredible and unexpected opportunity arose to speak with maestro Werner Herzog. Naturally, I couldn't pass it up. Herzog came to Venice this year (after receiving a Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion in Venice just last year) to present his new film Bucking Fastard, a narrative feature about twin sisters who speak in unison. It's Herzog's 21st narrative movie so far, not counting any of his docs, and it's dedicated to David Lynch. Bucking Fastard stars real life sisters / actors Kate Mara and Rooney Mara as Jean and Joan Holbrooke, inspired by the real life British identical twin sisters Freda and Greta Chaplin. It's a strange and peculiar story, something only Herzog could dream up and bring to life on screen, and it features a mystical fox that appears in the second half of the film 🦊 (which he briefly talks about in the interview). Aside from asking Herzog about this film, it was the perfect opportunity to spend a few minutes talking with the iconic German director about cinema in general & his thoughts on the world today. A genuine honor to meet him. // Continue Reading ›

"You're invited to the cinematic event of the season." In theaters in a few weeks - and I highly recommend watching it! Focus Features has debuted the joyful second & final official trailer for this year's Sense and Sensibility movie, a brand new cinematic version of the iconic Jane Austen story first published in 1811. Yesterday we also posted the excellent behind-the-scenes featurette for filmmaker Georgia Oakley's vision of this tale of sisters and romance. It has been adapted plenty of times before – most notably in 1996 as Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility starring Kate Winslet & Emma Thompson. From Focus Features & Working Title comes an irresistible new take Austen's story: charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of sisterhood and young love. With Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The film's exquisite ensemble cast features Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, & Fiona Shaw (the best). This is one of my favorite films of 2026! And I was not expecting to enjoy it this much but it's one of the most wonderful feel-good flicks of the year. // Continue Reading ›

Republic Pictures unveiled an official trailer for the comedy film titled Let's Have Kids, and indie story of two best friends who decide to become mothers right around the same time. "It's changed me." "DreamQuil does the work to rebalance you from the inside." Republic Pictures revealed the first official trailer for a strange sci-fi thriller titled DreamQuil, the story of an AI wellness program gone haywire. This psychological thriller / tech horror is created by Alex Prager as her feature directorial debut - it first premiered at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival earlier in the year. A woman embarks on a virtual wellness retreat in order to get her life back on track – with nightmarish consequences. Elizabeth Banks stars as Carol, a dissatisfied mother and housewife who heads to a virtual wellness retreat hoping to get her life back on track, only to return home and discover that a robotic version of herself has taken her place. Also starring John C. Reilly as her husband Gary, who actually seems to like the robotic Carol a bit more, of course. The impressive cast features Banks & Reilly, plus Juliette Lewis, Sofia Boutella, Kathryn Newton, Lamorne Morris, Toby Larsen, and Anna Marie Dobbins. This looks way more like a play than an actual film. Not the most original idea, not the most interesting-looking film, despite the cast in it. // Continue Reading ›

"I just want everything to be... like it used to be." Hulu has revealed their official trailer for a new mystery series titled Phony, created and directed by writer / filmmaker Nick Paley (of Marcel the Shell with Shoes On). A teenage boy wakes up after a car accident convinced that his mother is an impostor. Described as "a cozy small-town mystery with a side of YA sitcom: think Widow's Bay meets Freaks and Geeks." Sure, why not. Connie Britton and Sam Nivola star in Hulu's Phony - ready for streaming in October coming up. A coming-of-age mystery series about a teenager who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover his mom appears to have been replaced by an impostor. So who is this woman and what does she want with him? The full cast includes Meera Syal, Grace Brennan, Mahaela Park, Maliq Johnson, and Colter Lee. I've seen this film and it's truly wonderful – a surprise favorite in 2026 that might just end up on my Top 10 this year. // Continue Reading ›

"He meant so much in so many ways." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a tragic new documentary titled The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part biopic doc series about the life of beloved Canadian actor Matthew Perry. Buffalo 8 has debuted the official trailer for an indie horror creation called The Living Tree, the latest "what if AI was evil" tech horror movie to watch. Or to skip. "Maria is a true net positive in this world." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for a biopic documentary film titled Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story, a story about the life & jokes of comedian and actor Maria Bamford. The doc originally premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This is one of four new major docs about comedy and iconic comedians that Netflix is releasing this fall – along with: Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald, Who Is Martin Mull?, and SCTV: The Greatest Show You've Never Heard Of. Since the 1990s, Maria Bamford has built a career on turning radical honesty into radical comedy. In this doc, co-directors Judd Apatow & Neil Berkeley trace the comedian’s path — and pathos — from her childhood in Duluth, MN, to her hard-won fame in Los Angeles and her present-day life, showing how Bamford's mental health journey and her family relationships shaped her art and career. This looks like an unconventional documentary about a totally unconventional comedian. Should be a good one. // Continue Reading ›

"You have to be what you're meant to be. A man!" Netflix unveiled their main official trailer for the highly acclaimed film La Bola Negra, one of the biggest surprise hits from the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. This just won the coveted People's Choice Award top prize at the Toronto Film Festival and opens in US theaters starting in November this fall. The title La Bola Negra means The Black Ball in English, a reference to an actual event and story that the film is inspired by (and tells within the story in the film as well). This film is a 2026 must watch! A ravishing musical! The triptych plot is set across the years 1932, 1937, 2017 in Spain, exploring the inter-connected lives of three gay men throughout Spanish history. It also explores what it means to be gay throughout different eras, focusing on "three existences" that are connected with themes of sexuality, desire, pain, and inheritance. Starring Guitarricadelafuente as Sebastián, Carlos González as Alberto, Miguel Bernardeau as Rafael, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, plus appearances by Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close (who are both fabulous in the film). This powerful queer drama is deeply connected to the Spanish Civil War and the pain the nation still feels dealing with the horrible things that happened during that time. The buzz keeps building for this one – and it'll be out in theaters soon enough. View below. // Continue Reading ›

"The people who come here want to live, Ian. You – on the other hand – only want to play Hamlet." Focus Features has revealed the first official trailer for the LGBTQ indie drama Elsinore, the story of actor Ian Charleson. Directed by fellow actor Simon Stone, this film premiered at the 2026 Telluride Film Festival earlier this month and also played at TIFF, with debuts at London, Mill Valley, Montclair, Chicago, and AFI Fest coming up soon. A powerful, deeply moving and inspiring story of the actor Ian Charleson who faced incredible odds and a tragic AIDS diagnosis while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London. TIFF adds: "Andrew Scott delivers a career-best performance in Elsinore, wondrously celebrating both Charleson and Hamlet on screen. Through Scott, each real and fictional man’s confrontation with death becomes visceral, profoundly moving, and resoundingly answers Shakespeare's famed question with 'to be.'" Andrew Scott stars with Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Joe Locke, Peter Mullan, Charles Edwards, and Juliet Stevenson. This is all so similar to Ira Sachs' film The Man I Love also this year. Will Andrew Scott win an Oscar playing this role? Watch & find out this fall. // Continue Reading ›

"In the village, they call him the soldier." Mubi revealed the new official US trailer for Rose, an acclaimed German film shot in B&W made by the Austrian filmmaker Markus Schleinzer. This originally premiered at Berlinale 2026 earlier this year, and it also played at Telluride and New York, with Vancouver, London & Chicago up next. It already debuted in Germany in April but won't open in the US until December - trying an awards season release. It's Austria's official entry to the 99th Academy Awards. The extraordinary German actress Sandra Hüller stars as a woman in the early 17th century, who arrives in a village disguised as a man and tries to be a good citizen at any cost. NYFF adds: "this meticulously detailed historical drama about a woman's drive toward self-empowerment elegantly dramatizes the two-sided coin of human nature—the striving for personal freedom we all crave and the narrow-minded bigotry that stands in our way." Everyone is talking about how great Sandra is in this film. "Every life, every day is a political act — so we cannot hide," states Schleinzer, who's queer. "We have to change things if we want to have a better life as a community." The film also stars Caro Braun, Marisa Growaldt, Godehard Giese, Augustino Renken. Take a look. // Continue Reading ›

This right here is one of the best indie discoveries of 2026. A sensational indie creation, but also a film that is more than just a summer hangout buddy comedy. There's real weight to this, real depth to the screenplay and what it's getting into with teenagers today, despite all the slang & shenanigans. Sunburn is the third feature made by Canadian filmmaker Serville Poblete (who was born in Toronto, too) so far and it's the one that is going to launch his career into the stratosphere. Sunburn just premiered at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival in their Centerpiece section (and Next Wave Selects) and I'm not the only one raving about it as one of the best films from the fest this year. This is a truly authentic Toronto indie film to really celebrate, an instantly iconic new feature from Poblete that deserves to be seen and appreciate well beyond Canada. Days later and it's still on my mind – this is going to stick with me for a while. "If you had wings, would you stay here?" A beautiful film that's both about loving where you're from and also wanting so bad to get away. // Continue Reading ›

"We had no advertising. People discovered us." Netflix has revealed the first look teaser trailer for another new comedy doc offering this fall titled SCTV: The Greatest Show You've Never Heard Of. That title says it all! SCTV is an influential Canadian sketch comedy show that was kind of the Canadian version of Saturday Night Live. Short for "Second City Television", SCTV ran intermittently between 1976 and 1984 about a fictional television station. It was created as an offshoot of Toronto's Second City troupe. It moved to American television, where it aired on NBC from 1981 to 1983. "Likely to shake you to your core." Mk2 Films revealed the official trailer for the acclaimed documentary film titled NAZA, a remarkably upsetting look about using AI in horrible ways. This film premeired at the 2026 Venice Film Festival earlier this month, and it was highlighted in my Best of the Fest recap as one of the best films from Venice this year. A vitally important, must see doc that actually might change the world. Filmed at night from Tel Aviv, Israel rooftops, this powerful investigative documentary examines the civilian casualties of Israel's military operations in Gaza and the systems behind targeted killings of Palestinians. It was produced by The Guardian, JW Films, Placeholder Films, and Unseen Hand, and executive produced by Oscar winner Jonathan Glazer (of The Zone of Interest). Not only this film important for political reasons, but it's also important to see how Artificial Intelligence systems work today, how insane surveillance is & how much access they have, and how this is all used against regular people for the control of those in power. Frightening doesn't even cover half of it! Do not ignore this doc – it's seriously eye-opening & unforgettable. // Continue Reading ›

"You know the consequence of stealing from a family like mine..." Sony Pictures Classics revealed another new trailer for the film The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, an acclaimed story of a pickpocketer in NYC made by actor / filmmaker Noah Segan. It's a good one! This first premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival to mostly rave reviews and now it opens in theaters soon this fall. Led by John Turturro in one of his finest performances, the film follows Harry, an old school hustler / pickpocket. A classic native New Yorker, he moves through life lubricating palms with cash, relying on his wits & connections. But times are changing for Harry. His daily take isn't green bills & wristwatches, it's credit cards and cell phones. And one unfortunate night, cryptocurrency and a handgun – which gets him into big trouble. A nostalgic portrait of a small-time career criminal navigating today's digitally networked world. Featuring Turturro playing Harry, with Giancarlo Esposito, Will Price, Tatiana Maslany, Victoria Moroles, Steve Buscemi, and Jamie Lee Curtis. This is old school, down-and-dirty filmmaking and the story is simple but it works well as a how-things-have-changed NYC parable. This trailer is basically a shorter version of the previous official trailer - but I'm happy to post it anyway. And I hope folks go catch this when it's playing in theaters. // Continue Reading ›

"Nobody knows these mountains better than me. I know what I'm getting myself into." Paramount Pictures has revealed their official trailer for The Rescue, a dog movie + action thriller + cowboy vengeance story jumble of everything in one generic script. Nothing will stand between him, his dog, and his daughter. Well, of course not, that's the American way! Man must save woman always! Ugh. Brandon Sklenar stars as a former rodeo cowboy who takes matters into his own hands when his daughter is kidnapped for ransom. With her devoted dog by his side, he sets out to bring her home and will stop at nothing to find her. Starring Sklenar as "The Cowboy", with Josh Lucas, Hassie Harrison, Lorelei Olivia Mote, Nick Searcy, Austin Amelio, Spencer Treat Clark, Tim Blake Nelson, and Josh Duhamel. It looks excruciatingly cheese with all these cliche "I am the good guy taking out the bad guys" tropes. Don't mess with this cowboy. // Continue Reading ›

"Look at this beautiful hen. A second chance." Dekanalog has debuted an official US trailer for the kooky fun animal movie titled Hen, a story of a chicken on the run in Greece. Also known as The Hen or κότα in Greek - this premiered at TIFF 2025 last year and has been playing in many countries during 2026 already. This clever film follows a Leghorn chicken who escapes from an industrial farm and wanders until finding a home in the chicken coop of a small family-owned restaurant tied to a human smuggling ring. It was shot entirely in Greece and features 8 separate Hungarian chickens in the lead role of the "hen" – named Eszti, Szandi, Feri, Enci, Eti, Eniko, Nora, and Anett. 🐔 Yep they're all cuties! Hen follows a chicken on the road navigating the pecking order of a crumbling seaside restaurant in Greece. As she fights to protect her eggs, she becomes an unwitting witness to the complex human lives around her as the restaurant is caught up in greed, smuggling, and the migrant crisis. Reminds me of those donkey movies Eo and Au Hasard Balthazar, which are no doubt an inspiration for this tale. This looks delightful! And I hope the chicken makes it safely all the way to the end wherever she wants to go. Hen is finally releasing in limited US theaters in November. // Continue Reading ›

"We are more than men. We live forever!" 🦜 MGM+ & Paramount+ have revealed the main official trailer for an intense new Treasure Island series, arriving for streaming starting in October this fall. A fresh new adaptation of the iconic pirates adventure novel of the same name from Robert Louis Stevenson, originally published in 1883. Jim Hawkins sets sail aboard the Hispaniola, but as the crew closes in on Captain Flint’s treasure, loyalties begin to fracture and Long John Silver’s ambitions emerge. Starring David Oyelowo as Long John Silver, Hayley Atwell as Bess Hawkins, and Tom Sweet as Jim Hawkins, with Jack Huston, Tomer Capone, Craige Els, Tristan Sturrock, and Neil Pendleton. Jim Hawkins discover a treasure map, but his mother Bess's actions put them both in danger. Aboard The Hispaniola, they navigate threats from pirates and agents as alliances shift and survival hangs in the balance. Not sure why we need a pirate adventure story right now? Is anyone excited for it? But why not, looks entertaining enough. Sail on, mateys. // Continue Reading ›

"Whatever you do, don't turn down the volume!" Shudder revealed their official trailer for the latest horror anthology film V/H/S/Mixtape, the 9th film in this ongoing found footage horror franchise of shorts and freaky ideas. Mixtape is scheduled to debuted for streaming on Shudder starting in early October - as always every year after year. Ready for more horror mayhem? V/H/S/Mixtape cranks the volume on horror with a blood-soaked collection of cursed music videos, terrifying performances, and found footage. Press play. Pray it stops. Directors of the segments this time include Ernest Dickerson (Demon Knight), Flying Lotus (Ash), Ghost's Tobias Forge, David Moreau (MadS), RZA (One Spoon of Chocolate), and Renee Zhan, with the film featuring GWAR and practical puppet effects from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. What?! Awesome. Starring Barbara Crampton, Alex Hsu, Elie Kaempfen, Neela Jolene. I'm still impressed by how they continue making V/H/S movies and how bonkers the stories are every time. This is why horror rules! Such gross fun. The theme in Mixtape this time seems to be music or sound horror - which should be gnarly. // Continue Reading ›

"Don't you sometimes want to misbehave?" Why not. Lionsgate has revealed the first look teaser trailer for Day Drinker, the next new big Hollywood movie starring Johnny Depp making his comeback (following Ebenezer later this year). This one is expected to arrive in theaters in March 2027 next year – a very early first look at this action thriller. The plot details are still very vague. Only saying that: An enigmatic stranger forms an unlikely bond with a grieving bartender on a mega yacht who lost her lover, their lives intertwining in unexpected ways. Starring Johnny Depp, Madelyn Cline & Penélope Cruz, along with Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, Anika Boyle. Is he some kind of John Wick again? This looks so weird so far. Is it a revenge tale? A ghost story? Is he a vampire? A werewolf? None of the above? Why does he have an Irish accent? What is going on in this? I'm not sure & don't even know if I care to learn. Thoughts? // Continue Reading ›

"Do we even know this man at all?" Bleecker Street has launched their main official trailer for the must see new documentary film titled simply Musk, about the uber-wealthy tech giant megalomaniac Elon Musk. Musk just premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival and is releasing in theaters in October very soon (Alex Gibney also debuted his other new doc Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie at Sundance 2026 earlier this year). Gibney's next doc is a full-on, 4-hour long journalistic doc that is split into two parts with an intermission. The first half is about Tesla & Space X, and the second half is about Twitter & Trump. "An incisive look behind the legend of Elon Musk, the wealthiest, and most unchecked, man on the planet." Yep. Gibney continues to show he's a master at exposing the dark truths behind the façade of public personas to demonstrate how power corrupts, and how absolute power corrupts absolutely. I've seen this doc and it does expose him for being a massive fraudster, just lying over and over about what he will do and what he will accomplish, while others do the actual hard work. The rest of it is all in here – watch this doc when it opens. // Continue Reading ›

"I can make what's inside your head live forever!" Amazon MGM Studios unveiled their full official trailer for Madden movie, a sports comedy about John Madden and the creation of the iconic video game. 🏈 It's ready to watch streaming at Thanksgiving 2026 in a few months. From director David O. Russell following his last movie Amsterdam (ugh), comes this true story of the one-and-only football maven John Madden. Madden follows the football legend from Super Bowl glory with the Oakland Raiders to revolutionizing the game with the video game Madden NFL. The very first version of the football video game debuted in 1988 (as "John Madden Football") for MS-DOS & Apple II, evolving during the 1990s. Starring Nicolas Cage as John Madden, with Christian Bale as Al Davis, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, John Mulaney as EA founder Trip Hawkins, Sienna Miller, Shane Gillis, and Joel Murray as Pat Summerall. This is such a wild cast! The first look teaser arrived a full year ago and now we have more footage. This trailer definitely confirms this is a streaming movie, but it still looks amusing enough to watch it with your family and enjoy. // Continue Reading ›

"You tell me – what do I do? What do I need to do?" A24 debuted a second official trailer for the film Misty Green, a new feature written & directed by Chris Rock (directing his fourth so far). This first premiered at TIFF a few weeks ago (watch that trailer), but it's also about to screen at the New York Film Festival starting this weekend. Years after her Hollywood breakthrough, a talented actress whose career has stalled fights for her second act. The film is said to "brilliantly satirize the bigotry and hustle at the heart of Hollywood." Starring Slow Horses' Rosalind Eleazar as Misty, Chris Rock, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace, Kelli Garner, Rich Sommer, Amy Landecker, Anthony Anderson, and Tracie Thoms as Rhonda. The review from TIFF were mostly mixed, not everyone enjoyed this, but it does seem like a fascinating take on an actress making a comeback. Critics state: "When Rock strikes that balance of forceful character study and slight Hollywood culture commentary, the results are affecting." Take a look. // Continue Reading ›

"I have no idea who you are anymore!" Warner Bros & DC Studios revealed the final official trailer for the Clayface movie, a standalone DC movie set in Gotham City. Arriving in theaters soon this October for horror season. This is the first ever DC horror thriller, based on the comic book character of Clayface from the Batman universe. The movie is a creepy body horror story about an up-and-coming actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster. As a last resort, he turns to a scientist who transforms his body into clay. Exploring "the loss of one's identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition." Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen who becomes "Clayface", with Eddie Marsan, Max Minghella, Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Nancy Carroll & Joshua James. It's produced by The Batman's Matt Reeves and features a screenplay co-written by horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan. The first teaser is still the best preview so far, the last trailer was okay, but this final trailer looks like it actually might deliver on being a thrilling anti-hero story of a man becoming a comic book villain. Hopefully this ends up being pretty good. // Continue Reading ›

"Just hanging out in the jungle with a giant snake." 🐍 She's almost here! Lionsgate debuted another super scary official trailer for the horror movie Beware Boiúna, a survival thriller about a prehistoric snake in the rain forest, made by filmmaker Mike P. Nelson. A big snake movie just like Anaconda, but even scarier! Reviews are good for this one. Though they're describing it as a "colossal ancient predator" instead of just a snake. A team of doctors embark on a local mission in the Amazon rain forest, but it soon becomes clear that not everybody – or everything – is happy to see them. Their appearance draws the attention of an ancient predator, the "Boiúna." In the jungle where nature holds absolute power, she decides who lives & who dies. Beware Boiúna stars Kiana Madeira, Jessica Rothe, & Logan Marshall-Green. This lands in theaters in October just in time for the horror season. It looks like it will scare the crap out of everyone! Watch out. // Continue Reading ›

"Still feel like you don't have a problem?" Studiocanal has revealed an official trailer for Another Day for the French film also known as Garance. The original French title is the name of the main character, though the English title is more of a thematic title about her alcoholism. This premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival playing in the Main Competition - I'm a big fan of it even though it got mixed reviews (here's mine). Garance is a young actress but not a star. She manages things as best she can, finding fuel and comfort in alcohol. As she embarks for an 8-year journey of life changes, she drinks more and more. Until death seems to loom. Starring Adèle Exarchopoulos as Garance & Sara Giraudeau as Pauline, with Rudgy Pajany, Raya Martigny, Mathilde Roehrich, Sara-Jeanne Drillaud. Part of the reason this did not get great reviews is because it's a very direct, specific look at how an alcoholic person refuses help and yet must learn to get that help. And while I think that's important to portray in cinema, not everyone agrees. Worth a look. // Continue Reading ›

"He's wandering somewhere out there." 1-2 Special revealed the official trailer for Closure, an acclaimed documentary film from Poland made by filmmaker Michal Marczak. This premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It also played at many other doc fests: True/False, Thessaloniki, Docs Against Gravity, and at Sheffield. Closure is "a visceral film that defies the true-crime genre." After his teenage son goes missing, Daniel scours the depths of the Vistula River, torn between the dread of a fatal leap and the hope that his son may still be alive. The film is a documentary, but plays like a haunting mystery thriller. It's all about how so many young people go missing in Poland & how they can never find them yet the adults keep looking and looking. I've seen this film at Sundance and it's very good, but also depressing, obviously. Reviews state: "Marczak’s film becomes not just a document of a hunt but a psychological portrait of loss and a family’s attempts to come to terms with that." One of the year's unique docs even if it is a heavy watch. // Continue Reading ›

"I would like to offer you the job of a lifetime." Prime Video and Gaumont launched their full official trailer for an epic art heist comedy called Masterplan, arriving to watch for streaming on PV starting in October this fall. This looks fun! The French-Italian Prime Original film follows a legendary thief who recruits two young strangers to help him steal the Mona Lisa from the Louvre in Paris, before revealing that he is their father. Thrown into a chaotic reunion they never asked for, this new family must learn to work together—and try not to kill each other—if they want any chance at pulling off the heist of the century. The heist? The Mona Lisa, though perhaps there's more trickery going on. Stanley Tucci stars as the art thief Roger, along with Simona Tabasco as Chiara and Victor Belmondo and Jay. Filmed around France & Italy, of course. This is skipping theaters and heading directly to streaming next month, which seems like perhaps the best plan for this one. It looks like tons of fun, but could anyone truly steal the Mona Lisa? Then what happens? // Continue Reading ›

"Do you ever get paranoid you're not being paranoid enough?" Searchlight Pictures unveiled an excellent second trailer for Wild Horse Nine, also listed as Wild Horse 9, a hilarious 1970s dark comedy made by filmmaker Martin McDonagh. This premiered at the 2026 Venice & Telluride Film Festivals and picked up tons of great reviews – critics are saying it's of the best films of the year packed with a few best of the year performances as well (I wouldn't be surprised if Malkovich takes home the Oscar next year). Wild Horse 9 is McDonagh's fifth movie so far, following up The Banshees of Inisherin a few years ago. Set shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup (in which they helped take out their socialist president), CIA agents Chris and Lee embark upon a trust-testing mission from Santiago to Easter Island. Amongst the Island's iconic statues, as the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, Chris's newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students threatens to send everyone’s trip to this remote paradise sideways. The ensemble cast features John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, with Tom Waits & Parker Posey. I also loved this film - my review. It's witty and smart and entertaining. // Continue Reading ›

"What would she have to gain from me?" "Well, isn't your family rich?" A24 has revealed the full official trailer for the surprise new documentary film titled You Can See Everything, which was made entirely in secret and is ready to hit theaters next month. Made by brilliant comedy genius Nathan Fielder (directing his first feature) and the acclaimed filmmaker Lance Oppenheim (whose film Primetime opens this week), this is a documentary unlike anything we've ever seen before. Just before she heads to prison for 11 years, Elizabeth Holmes (yes, her, of Theranos) invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move at her home to try and show them they're just "regular people". This just premiered as a complete surprise screening at the 2026 Telluride Film Festival earlier this month, where the insanely positive reviews call it one of the best docs ever made. From these two "boundary-pushing directors" featuring Elizabeth Holmes in a doc that will you will never forget after watching. I think Fielder realized he could make a film about one of modern times greatest liars & manipulators – and captured it all on camera. This is going to be so good. // Continue Reading ›

"Nobody's pure. We all get played!" "It's hard being the only honest players in a crooked game." Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for the new animated sci-fi movie titled Ray Gunn, the latest creation from acclaimed sci-fi filmmaker Brad Bird. Made by Skydance Animation, Bird's latest animated movie is being released by Netflix directly - streaming in December with a theatrical run as well, including in 70mm in select locations. This will premiere at the 2026 London Film Festival in October. The neo-noir mystery thriller film follows Ray Gunn, the last human private detective, in a futuristic world inhabited by humans & aliens. Starring the voices of Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Alan Tudyk, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Chernus, Kether Donohue, Michelle Rodriguez, Aasif Mandvi, Matt Jones, Kathryn Hunter, John Ratzenberger, Justin Peck, Patton Oswalt, Tom Waits. Featuring a score composed by Michael Giacchino. Well this looks extraordinary! I'm even more impressed and more excited than I thought I would be after this trailer. Brad Bird may be ready to drop an animation masterpiece on us! Keep an eye out for this movie later this year. I can't wait to watch - now one of my most anticipated left in 2026. // Continue Reading ›

"Go down a wormhole in this documentary..." Netlfix has revealed the first official trailer for the new biopic documentary titled Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald, ready for streaming starting in October this fall. This doc about the life & laughs of the ingenious Canadian comedian Norm Macdonald is directed by acclaimed comedy filmmaker Judd Apatow, who has been on a roll with new docs recently (including Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! & Maria Bamford doc coming up). The tale of one of comedy's most singular & influential voices. The life and career of the stand-up and SNL legend, from his rise as the deadpan anchor of "Weekend Update" to his enduring legacy as a beloved comedian’s comedian — the very best at absurd, dry, and unexpected humor. Tumble into a wormhole in this doc about the master of deadpan humor Norm Macdonald, whose life was uncompromising yet full of contradictions. Built from archival footage, personal photos, and a few rare home videos contributed by fans and friends. Norm sadly passed away back in 2021 but is remembered and celebrated so fondly in this film by Apatow and all of his comedian friends. Enjoy it. // Continue Reading ›

"These clowns aren’t here to make balloon animals." 🤡 Hulu has revealed the first official trailer for a new documentary film titled Clown Panic, a fascinating Huluween doc about the rise in creepy clown sightings. This is one of those streaming docs where they turn any old backwater story in a full-on 90+ minute look at how weird and wild and crazy people are out there. Especially when there's clown sightings. Starting around 2016, South Carolina children started spotting clowns in woods. Reports spread across America, causing lockdowns and police investigations and more craziness. Using archival content, and interviews, examines how fear and social media transformed a strange myth into hysteria. The film has interviews with witnesses, law enforcement, clowns and cultural commentators and unpacks how a how a bizarre urban legend could spiral into a national moral panic. So was this the Satanic Panic of the late 2010s or something else even stranger? This guy: "I mean, I don’t know any clowns that wanna go and kill a bunch of kids. I mean, that’s your customers!" Indeed it is... This all looks so weird, but it might just be wacky enough to enjoy watching. // Continue Reading ›

"There's a monster in these woods." 4Digital Media has revealed the official trailer for an indie horror film titled His Monster, which is heading directly to a VOD release starting early October this horror season. Directed by Erich Cannon, His Monster premiered last year at a few festivals and is ready to view at home. When his young daughter is mysteriously swept out to sea, a struggling alcoholic believes it to be a monster that attacked her. James remains alone, searching the woods and finding nothing. But when people around him start dying, only he really believes in what it is that's killing them. An atmospheric, mysterious horror thriller featuring some nice indie vibes. Starring Gabriel Casdorph and Meranda Long. From the same filmmaker also behind The Cuckoo Clock indie horror. There's a creepy cool practical monster hiding in this. // Continue Reading ›

"There's this sense of intoxication, a mystical feeling, excitement." 1-2 Special has revealed the official US trailer for the acclaimed indie film titled La Gradiva, a French film about high school students traveling on a school trip to Southern Italy to learn about Pompeii & Mt Vesuvius. This premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in the Critics Week sidebar, but many critics said it's good enough that it should've been in the fest's Main Competition instead. It is a major breakout from the indie film scene this year. A group of high school students sets off on a school trip to discover the ruins of Pompeii. There they are seized by a sense of vertigo. They allow themselves to be overwhelmed by desire and anger, until they surrender completely. Starring Antonia Buresi, Colas Quignard, Suzanne Gerin, & Mitia Capellier-Audat. Winner of the Cannes Critics' Week Grand Prize, Martine Atlan's "revelatory debut feature imbues the coming-of-age story with a sense of mythic grandeur in this work of classical beauty and overwhelming emotion. Working as her own co-cinematographer, Atlan captures the dizzying contradictions of youth with an almost documentary-like precision." All the critics are raving about this being one of the best films from 2026! Take a look below. // Continue Reading ›

"You are heading into hostile terrain!" This looks ridiculously fun! 🇺🇸 Aura Entertainment has launched the main official trailer for The Beast, a totally bonkers action thriller movie coming up this year. Yet another entry in the "president under attack" subgenre including movies like White House Down and Air Force One. In this one, it's about him being stuck inside the highly armored & weaponized SUV the President gets called "The Beast". From director Renny Harlin (who also made this year's Deep Water shark movie) comes this new action comedy. When a militia of unidentified hostiles coordinates a coup against the US, the president himself is forced to drive the presidential limousine & unlock the full extent of The Beast's highly classified capabilities to save his injured agent, reunite with his wife, and maybe save the world. Let 'em roll! Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Joel Kinnaman, Colin Morgan, & Guy Burnet. This is a very funny trailer with endless jokes. The teaser was also hilarious, but this trailer takes the cake! Looks like good times dumb fun. // Continue Reading ›

"People cannot take advantage of us." Neon has unveiled the full official trailer for the film Paper Tiger, the newest NYC film created and written and directed by filmmaker James Gray (We Own the Night, Ad Astra, Armageddon Time). This thriller originally premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival playing in the Main Competition, though reviews were quite mixed (here's mine). The story follows two brothers who pursue a lucrative business opportunity in 1980s Queens (involving the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn), only to find themselves caught up in a dangerous scheme involving the Russian mafia, which ends up terrorizing their suburban family and puts their own sibling bond to the test. Adam Driver stars as Gary Pearl, the older brother and a former cop, now a fixer around the city. Miles Teller co-stars as Irwin, his younger brother. His wife Hester is played by Scarlett Johansson, with Gavin Goudey & Roman Engel as their sons. Also featuring Victor Ptak as Simeon Bogoyavich, an intimidating Russian mob boss who's involved. Neon is dropping this into theaters in November with a homecoming premiere at NYFF. Good film! Not one of the best films of the year, but a solid thriller with a superb Adam Driver performance that's worth a look. // Continue Reading ›
