Should you ever need a voice for a younger male or androgynous voice, I would be absolutely giddy to record for you. Regardless, I very much look forward to reading or listening to this one.

I don't, although if the audition is open, I'd be delighted to put in for it. 🙂 I absolutely love the narrator for your Natural History of Dragons series, but this one sounds quite different.

Who have you gotten for the audiobook?

I posted a link to my latest audiobook release yesterday and immediately got a follow from an author, only to find his book was recorded by "Virtual Voice". I was and am mildly infuriated by the whole thing.

And while I'm at it, I have to wonder: Do you have some kind of bot autofollowing anyone who uses the hashtag #indiebooks? Because if you do... stop it.

Seriously, it's as offensive to me as I hope it would be to you if someone followed you who was linked to AI writing.

If you have used AI to produce your audiobook, please, for the love all the gods and fishes, *don't follow me*. I'm an audiobook narrator. If you don't follow me, I won't go look at your book on Amazon and see "Virtual Voice". #audiobooks #narrator #rant

My first ever Naomi Novik novel was the first Temeraire book. I never finished it. Just did not care for it at all. Summer War had me in both tears and laughter and is, like so many of her other books (Spinning Silver and the Scholomance books especially), one of my absolute favorite books.

I recently used the phrase, "Luck favors the prepared," and it got me thinking about translating it into Latin or Anglo-Saxon. And then, of course, I also realized it would make an amazing advertising campaign for contraception. Because... my brain.

Luck favors the prepared. But preparation doesn't guarantee a damned thing. This comes up on audiobook narrator discussions all the time. Folks are all like, "How long do I have to work before I'm amazing and rich?" and the rest of us are all like, "Tell ya when I figure that out, kid."

Not a trick, just an observation: I think we use names less in modern times than in any other period. I genuinely believe that people used to greet one another by name regularly. I can go dozens of interactions with people and we never say the other's name. Or I'm just ADHD.

I'm not saying that this is true, because I don't honestly think it is, but for arguments sake then: I guess that would mean male writers need to write for a broader audience and start appealing to female and non binary readers?

It does not happen often, but it happens in places that are dear to me: sex positive and kink spaces. I'm more comfortable around a group of lesbians who will take me for who I show myself to be than I am most of the kink/poly/sex positive community.

We, as a society and perhaps a species, have so often failed to hold men to account for their actions that it taints every interaction that men have. Granting that, I still get angry when I and other men are excluded based solely on our gender.
