Proton Pass has been great since launch for me. Autofill is pretty reliable (apart from OTP, more hit or miss) and the UI/UX is very good. Missing biometric unlock on the browser extensions though

how is a cooling failure in one datacenter causing a global outage of all Proton services? (actual question)
Screenshot of the Proton status page that states :
Global Outage
Identified - We have identified a critical cooling failure in our Frankfurt datacenter. We are currently in the process of shifting traffic to our backups sites.
Aug 27, 2026 - 00:38 CEST
Update - It appears that Proton VPN works for some, so it has been changed to "Partial Outage" rather than "Major Outage"

Update - We are continuing to investigate this issue.

ah fair point, i was rather thinking the actual trains are good, and they run mostly very on time. but yeah the timetables could be broader.

That’s what I suspected too, but on @offprint.app it’s been stale for over a month now, so that seems a lot for cache 😅 Specifically, I changed a publishedAt date on a few documents to have them appear as posted in 2023 (when I actually wrote them) but they still appear as June 2026 on offprint

why do some atproto apps show stale data when the data in the pds was updated directly? doesn’t that break the “users owns their data on their pds” principle?

Findings from this week's UN report on AI vs climate: 🌿 80-90% is not in training models, but in day-to-day use. 🌿 Generating an image is 1450⨉ more energy intensive than text, generating video much worse. 🌿 We need to monitor water and land footprint, as well as carbon. unu.edu/inweh/news/e...

Well it seems my first feature for @openstatus.dev is already useful! www.openstatus.dev/status/anthr...
Screenshot of the OpenStatus external services page. Below the navigation bar, there is a section titled "status" followed by a larger heading "Is Anthropic down?" which indicates that Anthropic is operational but experiencing minor issues. There is a "Minor Issue" label and a note that the status was last updated 5 minutes ago. Below this, there is a section titled "Anthropic uptime – last 45 days" with a horizontal bar graph showing uptime. Further down, there is a section titled "Anthropic recent incidents" listing three incidents with details such as start and resolution times, and severity levels labeled as "major" or "minor." The severity levels are color-coded with red for major and yellow for minor.

seems popular enough to crash their pledge intake system
The letsbuyspiritair.com webpage with a black background and text in white, yellow, and red. At the top, there is a logo with the text "SPIRIT 2.0 OWNED BY THE PEOPLE" next to a black square with a white "spirit" logo. Below, two buttons read "JOIN THE MOVEMENT" and "PLEDGE NOW" in yellow with black text. A red banner states "SITE OVERLOADED... AGAIN — PLEDGES PAUSED" with warning icons. A brown section explains email verification issues due to high pledge volume, with a fix pending. A black section reads "STATUS UPDATE YOUR RESPONSE CRASHED THE SITE." in bold yellow, followed by text about server upgrades and a 24-48 hour functionality restoration. At the bottom, a yellow bar with an Instagram icon indicates social media presence.

Well that's quite the spike for claude..
A line graph titled "Claude AI problems reported in the last 24 hours" shows a sharp spike in reports starting around 4:35 PM on April 15, 2026. The baseline is 6 reports, with a total of 3703 reported issues by the end of the graph. The x-axis represents time from 6 PM to 3 PM the next day, while the y-axis measures the number of reports. A tooltip highlights the spike with the timestamp and report numbers. The graph is branded with the "DownDetector" logo in the centre.

My hottest “I have no data to back this up” take is that phones aren’t making young people less happy. What’s making them less happy is living in a world where everyone is having their reality defined by recommendation algorithms that can only care about whether something keeps you watching.
Young adult happiness is falling. Percent of young people who are pretty or very happy has dropped from 88% to 76% over the last 15 years after having held fairly steady between 1980 and 2010
