Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 18mother people. Disgust should not form policy. Disgust is what we’ve spent decades managing in terms of racism and other forms of bigotry. If this bigotry remains unchecked and protected, it won’t be long before another group has their existence questioned. 000
Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 18mare the current Whitehouse’s and a lot of people are going to be harmed and lose their lives to a policy that has been enacted through cowardice, ignorance and worst of all - bigotry. What is happening to trans people is segregation to deter them from living their lives because it disgusts 100
Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 18mIn the 1980s, Mary Whitehouse was seen as a virulent homophobe. She had the ear of government which enacted vile oppression on gay men and women which lasted longer than a decade. Her, and the people who enabled her, are looked back on with scorn. Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 2hI’m still guffawing at Burnham’s quote that people should “live and let live” when it comes to single sex spaces. Is this what live and let live looks like to anybody? Sure screams “live and let live… but not you people” 000
Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 2hI’m in the phase at the moment where it’s 50/50 that I get sir or madam. And I also think that’s largely because people assume I am a trans woman - as in they think the trans part is the identifier and not the bit after. Most people don’t know what a trans man or a trans woman is. 020
Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 2hI do think though that trans men should consider malicious compliance. If we can’t change our sex then everyone should be ok with us on women’s wards 010
Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 2hThe idea that we are seen as men if we pass as a massive hunky bearded man is a route you can take, sure. Not all of us look like that, I certainly don’t. So if I was to go into hospital they would now have no idea what to do and would delay my care while they try and figure it out. 110

Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 2hThe trans man gotcha doesn’t work for these reasons: We are not seen as men and with terfs we are seen as delusional butch women. Their goal is our punishment to get back in line. That’s why they don’t think about us. We are excluded from all spaces. That is our punishment for rejecting womanhood 110
Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 3hMy point is, they no longer believe that we are real and they’re the institution who initially believed we were. That’s quite a claim for a medical profession who believes in science. 010
Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 3hWith respect you’re missing my point. We are “treated” by the NHS. They set up a clinic in the 1960s because it was recognised as something that can be treated to alleviate distress for the person with gender dysphoria. It’s the same NHS now believing it’s a fiction that people are trans at all. 110

Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 5hBut in the eyes of the medical profession, it is a condition. I don’t believe it is but the health service does. That was my point. 110
Rivers @finl3y.bsky.social · 14hIt’s incredible to me the health service, the NHS, which has had a gender clinic since the 1960s, now thinks a recognised medical condition now means nothing. This monstrous policy is out of control and people will die. There should be no LGBTQIA organisation working with the NHS after this. 2251
