Marlowe (Blu-ray Review) — Hard-Boiled, Sun-Soaked, Out Of Time
“I'm just a cat looking for a connection…” Can Philip Marlowe, the hard-boiled centre of a distinctive, dreamy, and seedy Los Angeles, work in the 1960s? After Raymond Chandler introduced the gumshoe in 1939’s The Big Sleep, a spate of film adaptations lodged him in the shadows of the 1940s. That was an image that stuck until a 22-year break from the screen ended with 1969’s Marlowe bringing him crashing into California during the Vietnam War.
