That likely indicates that either the screen itself is dying, or that there's a loose connection somewhere.... But my money would be on the former unfortunately.

Tim @fiduch.bsky.social · 7h
It could go either way unfortunately, depending on the exact failure point. Sometimes screens will get lines on them, or dead pixels/segments, or get darker... Sometimes they'll just die completely all at once - no image or backlight left at all.

If you look closely at the notice in Nunziata's video.... This resident or someone staying with them/visiting them caused a serious safety issue for someone else living in the complex. That's the reason for the eviction notice. Curious that the video doesn't address that at all. 🤔 Lying Nunziata.

I know I'm very late to this post, but sounds like a bad screen. Often quite expensive, but you may be able to find somewhere that would replace it with a used screen for relatively cheap.

don't read morgoth's ring cause you'll realize sauron is like the worst AuDHD traits cranked up to eleventy-thousand, the perfectionism and obsession with things he can't control, and you'll be like DAMN i can't believe i relate to sauron but at least he serves cunt? so that helps a bit

What are your go-to resources on the dangers of LLMs and so-called "A.I."? I'm working on something and am looking to marshal a proper bibliography. If you have peer-reviewed studies that's great, but any reputable source on ecological, ethical, economic, psychological, or other impacts is welcome.

I'm beyond frustrated at this clearly-biased attempt to legitimize and normalize Generative AI and other damaging, extractive, and exploitative AI technologies (ie. mass surveillance, which is a big part of what Palantir does), as long as it's "used responsibly." 🙄

Thanks to @tolkienpop.substack.com for an excellent, eloquent, and quick response to a very disappointing article in the @tolkiensociety.org's most recent issue of Amon Hen, written by an AI professional and Palantir investor. tolkienpop.substack.com/p/an-open-le...

Tremendously disappointed to see the AI piece in this months issue of Amon Hen. Putting aside the whole "Tolkien would never" arguments, the piece is simply bad. Its a deeply dishonest take on AI and a poor interpretation of Tolkien's work.

Setting aside important Finrod differences to agree with Jude here. You can’t write an article on the “ethics” of AI and ignore the unresolved environmental issues, and certainly NOT in a Tolkien publication (to say nothing of supporting a tech company complicit in genocide)

Currently reading a chapter which will go unnamed, and I really feel like....the reason I roll my eyes at most "Did you Know Tolkien was a Catholic" takes isn't because I don't think his Catholicism was unimportant. Of course it was. But it's one of the least interesting things about him?

Never forget that the basis of all transphobic moral panics is lies and misinformation. You can’t logically argue people out of this transphobic trend because they checked logic at the door. All you can do is fight it. Don’t give the transphobes a moments peace or a platform or a hold on government.

The "centrist" think tank Third Way is looking to pay someone between $140,000 and $150,000 to spend their days trying to dig up dirt on DSA members. They're trying to sell this gig as "anti-extremism" work, which I find completely disgusting.
from job listing:

As the Director of Anti-Extremism, a typical day might include…

Assembling and updating a database of the DSA’s most extreme ideas and statements and a repository of voting records, affiliations, and issue positions to make available to allies and partners;
Leading public opinion research to identify and test the contrasts that move base voters away from these extreme candidates;
Overseeing the development of memos, talking points, rapid response materials, and other products that make the case against these extreme forces in American politics;
Promoting and marketing our research and materials to ensure they reach decisionmakers quickly, repeatedly, and at scale through a coordinated distribution infrastructure;
Recruiting and arming a group of young, diverse spokespeople to fight the DSA from a center-left perspective and assembling a broad coalition of organizational partners to make the case against extremism;
Running an earned media program to create a drumbeat of our message in op-eds, television appearances, podcasts, and traditional and digital media engagement.

To friends & family still using generative AI: I understand “it’s cooking the planet” can be a bit of an abstract or far away reason to stop. So to personalise: please stop using the tech built on stealing what I’ve written and destroying the entire system I work in. If not the planet, do it for me.

You've probably noticed that a lot of right-wing ghouls love The Lord of the Rings: Giorgia Meloni, Peter Thiel, J.D. Vance, many such cases. In my latest essay, I set out to put neofascist affinity for Tolkien in religious and historical context - and to show why the far right gets Tolkien wrong.

And this should be done by lowering the prices of smaller portions, not upping the prices of bigger portions. Enough of this "well you can get a large for 50 cents more" to entice you to buy way more food than you need. It's predatory.

Lukewarm take: Restaurant food sizes should be roughly proportional to portion size (by weight, volume, whatever). Like a 32 oz drink should cost 50% more than a 24 oz drink, not 15-25% more... Large fries should be 2x the price of medium if it's twice as many fries by weight.
