The thermostat in my office says “Hi !” 👋 #FriendlyElectronics #Heatwave
A thermostat on a wall. On the bottom of it, a small LCD 8 segment display. Instead of showing a 2 digit number, it just says "Hi"

What a fantastic tool! marshdeer.github.io/xkcd2501-genera…
A variant of the XKCD 2501 comics, showing two stick figures talking.
— Quantum circuit design is a second nature to us, quantum info people, so it's easy to forget that the average people probably only knows the circuits for teleportation and QFT.
— and Grover, of course
— of course.
Legend: Even when they're trying to compensate for it, experts in anything wildly overestimate the average person familiarity with their field

I found this in the middle of a table of symbols. Apparently, in French, for Im ( Z ), the imaginary part of a complex number, we should use "Je suis ( z )"
(English below)

A table explaining some scientific notations with obvious translation mistakes. The notations z-star and z-bar is said to denote "complicated conjugation" instead of a complex conjugation, and the notation Im(z) has been itself translated as "Je suis (z)", that is "I am (Z)"

#LTQI Today's Quantum LIP6 seminar , Joseph Bowles, from Xanadu on scalable training of large quantum machine language models , based on papers 2306.14962 and 2501.04776 as well as upcoming work. Joseph Boules tries to look out what is actually possible in […] [Original post on mathstodon.xyz]
Picture of a slide where different QML strategies are compared on classifying noisy bars and dots with 16 qubits. There is an orders of magnitude improvement ( 10⁸ vs 10¹⁰) in the number of shots needed to learn of the commuting equrivariant circuit compared to the non- commuting one and the quantum convolutional. And the test accuracy is better (close to 1) in the 1st case
