Trapain has some history, used to live very close to it. Alas my chariot ponies only have. 18C steading ruin but sure they have dreams of war!

#Wildflowerhour Bit early but this red clover is fighting the good fight in what was a very autumnal South Lanarkshire morning (ie horizontal rain).

A group of three oystercatchers on a rock on the shore. It's January and the natural light makes it look very black and white apart from their bills, which are a reddy orange.

Did some sums ... 160 WaderTales blogs about waders/shorebirds. Over 270,000 words - longer than the longest 'Harry Potter' book - the equivalent of three average-length novels. Recent Oystercatcher blog: wadertales.wordpress.com/2026/09/03/a... Catalogue: wadertales.wordpress.com/about/ #birds

Got to visit a nice lagg woodland off a lowland raised bog recently. Plenty of dead wood both standing and lying.

It would be good to have one for vantage point surveys and but also for personal use, digiscoping etc.

#BirdingGear Any advice on scopes please? I have an ancient opticron which is huge, heavy and old but that works well. Preferably small and light and that won't require a second mortgage.

I'm writing WaderTales blog #160 about a fantastic global Whimbrel study. Lots of info re migration, subspecies, threats, conservation etc to cram into 1500 words. Reckon WaderTales must be up to 250,000 words by now! Catalogue: wadertales.wordpress.com/about/ #ornithology

Ooh I know you weren't- didn't mean to imply that. Just that there not people you want to take on as a local farmer found out. They aren't generally just Ned's out for a jolly. A bit of a tangent-apologies! Agree totally on impact of shooting.

I've heard of this before in seaside towns. I'd have lost it as well- I hate people sometimes.

Hare coursing is run by a certain demographic including organised crime. They aren't people you want to mess with. There also seems to be a rising casual cruelty towards wildlife atm, haven't recovered from seeing two scrotes killing a herring gull via catapult online the other day.

So apart from some pigeon feathers, the nest was lined with buzzard feathers! Am thinking of putting some cups up for nest season but will have them further back in the building.

A sad-ish end to swallow season. For the second time a sparrowhawk raided a nest and took the last two chicks. It might be a blessing, they were only a few days old and it's getting late. Interesting array of feathers in the nest though!

For the love of the gods. If you don't understand something in a show, that doesn't mean that it's a plot hole. The show is not your fan fiction! Fan fiction and fast food delivery is why society is as it is.

Rowan seem to have done well here this year for berries. No doubt the hawthorn hedges will be scalped beginning of September as always.
