My multi-talented partner just reviewed the new translation of Rohmer's novel for LARB lareviewofbooks.org/article/elis...

The Man Who Would Become Éric Rohmer | Los Angeles Review of Books
Filmmaker Éric Rohmer’s newly translated novel ‘Élisabeth’ makes one wonder what fiction does that a film cannot, and vice versa.

just finished watching the trilogy Angela’s Diaries: Two Filmmakers (2018-2025) by Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi...what an incredible way to close their career as a couple..."archive as a work, work as an archive"
Gianikian and Ricci Lucchi standing next to an ad for their scented films in U.S. at the end of the 1970s or beginnings of 1980s

Still impressed by this series of posters for a 2018 Peter Watkins retrospective presented by Wolf Kino in Berlin.
The key idea throughout the series: A black-and-white cropped still from a Watkins film stamped in the middle with a single word. Aggressive font, red, all caps. Here: Radical.Controversial.Relevant.Subversive.

The Cinémathèque française is currently running a retrospective of John Stahl. I didn't realize he had such an extensive silent career, almost none of which appears to be available online. Does anyone know about these? Are they as good as his sound films?
