I'm using my grand mother very fine Chinese porcelain because I don't have the arm strength to hold any other cup. So there is that

1) "... the medical aspects of the illness are on the whole better understood by sick people than by their doctors..." In this new paper, philosopher Chloé De Canson details how the ME/CFS community shares and produces scientific knowledge.

Let me tell you - not the Love Hypothesis. This is, in fact, the physique of the average professor. No questions at this time.
The sexy professor from the love hypothesis. shirtless. Bazinga!

Why do people with ME claim to know more about the medical aspects of their disease than their doctors? Because the mechanisms that usually ensure doctors' knowledge fail in the case of ME, and sick people have created mechanisms of knowledge production and dissemination to pick up the slack.

Same, but somehow weak is often transformed by physicians in depressed or tired

It's fuzzy for sure. If you try to lift a giant rock and your arm start to shake, you would say that the feeling is similar to being tired?

Yes definitely I didn't mention all of these nuances, but it's crazy to me that we have only one word for all of these different things. And it seems dangerously easy to use the label for something totally different.

Dr Juliette @ferrydanini.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yes, but muscles not responding is not the same thing as any of this? If your arm burns from doing a pull up you wouldn't say "I'm tired/fatigued"?
000
Dr Juliette @ferrydanini.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
So anyway, l don't feel tired or fatigued 🤷 my muscles don't work anymore that's it.
290
Dr Juliette @ferrydanini.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
110
Dr Juliette @ferrydanini.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yet when I specifically explain my muscles are weak and I can't lift a cup, a little bit like after overexercising (think lifting, pull ups), they conclude ah yes fatigue/tired (same word in French remember). But that's clearly not the same feeling so I'm confused
2130
Dr Juliette @ferrydanini.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
To me, tired is what you feel when you haven't slept enough or well (you feel drowsy and sleepy), or what you feel when you worked a lot either mentally or physically (low energy)
3171
Dr Juliette @ferrydanini.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
It doesn't help that those are synonymous in French (fatigue), but I had a surreal conversation with a doctor where I realised we might not have the same definition of what it means

Dr Juliette @ferrydanini.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Is there any philosophy (or medicine) paper on what we mean by fatigue and tiredness?
