My Rage Against the Machine/Les Mis mashup is complete. This is my interpretation of the quilt guild’s summer challenge “quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current ‘democracy’” all hand stitched.

Over the years, some people have asked me how to make a realistic werewolf suit like mine, but even though I try to help, I can never seem to explain it beyond giving some pretty vague tips. I put in extra work today, so here are my seven tips + a timeline of how my werewolf suit has evolved.

Text says: 1. For me, if you want to create a werewolf suit, it's not about becoming an unattainable ideal shape, but about taking your own shape and making it more wolf-like. It's about transforming yourself! Use your physical attributes in your favor, not against you. Have long and beautiful hair? Have beautiful, expressive eyes? Got broad shoulders? Use them! I don't, but I have other traits; I used my height and slim frame to my advantage for it, and use my beard whick blends away with the fur.

2. It's an ongoing creation. You can start simple and improve it bit by bit. After several years, I am still trying to improve it a little here and there. So, don't get disappointed if on the first tries it's not where you want it to be.

3. Don't wait to have a big budget to start. You can start with DIY stuff first to begin shaping your character (and learning from it). You can also experiment to see if this or that works for you without making a big investment.

4. Learn from others (the more, the better). Even if you are not part of the fursuit community (like me), you can ask around, or get inspiration from seeing tutorials or using paid patterns. I recommend checking FoxFire's patterns, or Kispanu Cosplay on YouTube.

5. Get inspiration, but don't limit yourself to what you see in other people's work or what you manage to find; dare to imagine how to make something that seems impossible, a reality. Do you have an idea that you cannot seem to find anywhere? Go for it! It probably has not been made because of some limitation, or perhaps no one has thought about it before. For example, the torso part of my suit, I have never seen something like that anywhere, but I made it from scratch specifically for my needs and it works. Or for my hand and feet paws tips, I pictured them being made of some sort of tough rubber but was unable to find anything like it, so I approached WillowCreativ, and they custom-made foam TPU prints for me!

6. Finding the "right face" for my werewolf made a huge difference. Even though I had already made a nice wolf head , when I saw that EasternWind studio mask/headdress, I knew that was me; fortunately, I had the budget to get it, and after receiving it, I started to do the unthinkable to such a precious item and began modifying it, turning it into a werewolf head.

7. Enjoy the creation process. For me, it has been therapeutic in a way; channeling this deep-rooted werewolf obsession I have had for many years into something creative.
