I've got this comp from 1997 and every track is a banger.

Many happy returns, you youngster.

I put a copy out in the racks for £4.99 and thought that was asking a bit much for a stinker of an album. Some nutter bought it anyway.

Sadly, I think it's all the vinyl...

Is it just me (quite possible - I'm full of snot) or are all the records only coming out of the right channel this morning?

£1 sevens from The Next Chapter, the indie Chazza which used to be Oxfam. Botton row is Gibson Brothers, John Kongas Step On and Minnie Ripperton Loving You

Just picked the last of mine, a few greenish ones are turning orange on the kitchen windowsill.

Ran out of Sudafed so popped to H’don. I don’t really agree with Guilty Pleasures as a concept but I did go to the club night in the 90s. It is just my singles collection minus the ABBA.

I will have to put a dish up if they do scrap Freeview, as our rural broadband is often too flaky for iPlayer. Galling, as I can see Sandy Heath transmitter out of the upstairs windows.

Well, no. He obviously didn't become a Colonel until he joined the army, or it would be like naming your newborn Police Constable Ramon.

Was a whole crate of classical stuff, about which I know very little. I said "Put everything out at a couple of quid, any serious collectors will offer you more if they think it is worth it." First customer took two Jaqueline de Pré LPs up to the counter and paid £20 over asking price. "Told you!"

My first day as an Oxfam volunteer. I came home with some records - everything 99p. Top left is a sleeveless Swimming Horses by Siouxsie and the Banshees.

There's a copy of this in the local chazza racks for 25 quid. I bet it is still there.

I have lots of similar(ly crap) showbiz anecdotes. Want to know who dropped a Marathon bar on my car seat, or who wore my woolly hat onstage at Warwick Arts centre? Publishers: speak to my agent.

I used to meet post-Blow Monkeys Dr. Robert in the lunchtime Post Office queue when he lived, and I worked, near Duxford.

It was a bit late for me, as I sat my last exam in 1991, but as of 2005, Kate Bush can teach you Pi. 3.1415926 etc. Handy stuff if you ever have to work out the circumference of a circle.

Heaven 17 taught me that 17 is half of 37. Despite that, I managed to pass my O-level Maths. Pretty much everything I know is from pop music, or books about pop music - I have a one-track mind...

The only National album I like - yeah, I know, my loss. I much preferred The Dawn Chorus who apparently sounded just like The National (although not to me).

Steve Fenton @fentonsteve.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Yeah... I'm going to pop in once a week or so, everything is going to be priced to sell: a quid or two, with rare stuff maybe up to a fiver. Unlike the 'expert' at the St Ives shop who has priced this £2 (tops) Orange Juice single at £5.99 - I had quite a 'discussion' with them last week.

Had to drop a mattress at the tip and pick up some bubbly from Waitrose, and noticed that Oxfam had reopened after five months. In other news, I am now their new volunteer music pricer.

Yeah, my 10-y-o VW Golf doesn't but wife's and daughter's cars do - I have to remember to pull the lever. The campervan, when it arrives, will have an automatic gearbox and an electric handbrake - it might as well drive itself!

Yeah, apparently 16-year-old Fiat 500s had CD players, but no aircon.

First-world problems: woken before sunrise. By a pair of owls in the oak tree outside the bedroom window. "Twit"... "Twoo"... etc for half an hour or so. Tired, but happy...

Including the doubles/trebles. So that soul collection is 62 tracks for 20p, or 0.32p each. Beat that, iTunes.

There are two S P somethings round here, S P Drive and S P Lane. I live on one, I reckon 25% of my packages are delivered to the other, and vice-versa. It's one way to meet other residents, I suppose...

I can believe that. My experiment with a warped Julian Cope 12" in a greenhouse, sandwiched between two glass chopping boards, under a pile of bricks, thermometer reading about 45C: nothing - still warped. Black vinyl apparently needs at least 50C to start going soft.
