'It was just meant to be': How Japan's most fearless women (and MySpace) helped Smackgirl shape MMA's future

In 2001, women's MMA was more of an idea than a full-fledged sport — especially out east. But that changed with one promotion that dared to go against the grain.

Smart pressure into body work against the fence by Park, that left hook to the body into same side body knee is a very cool look.

Beautiful combination by Park, breaks the stance of Hernandez with the low kick, attacks with the long 1-2 and collapses the distance into a knee to the body.

The BRILLIANT Defense of Jack Della Maddalena

If you want a more comprehensible breakdown of these sequences with visual aid, you can check out my video about it! /🧵 youtu.be/7i6kAvsOKQ4?...

YouTube video by Feño TFS (MMA Breakdowns)

Della Maddalena showed an ability to stick and move that wasn't fully explored in his UFC career before and it was a pleasant suprise. But he also kept his dog and ability to exchange inside the pocket when needed.

Belal was diligent about countering and he was maintaining a solid stance, which can take you very far in MMA, but he was outplayed by superior positioning and the proactive quality of Della's defense meant he was often swinging at air.

The layers of his defense allowed him to open up at spots. If Belal was able to get past the evasion of Jack, he was met with a responsible high guard numerous times.

100

This is the main reason he was one step ahead of Belal, his defense allowed him to control the initiative during exchanges and had the now former champ playing catch-up.

100

Flashy moves like darts and shifts would be mixed with fundamentally solid head movement and beautiful pivots.

100

Jack would often "break the rules" of defense, squaring his stance and switching stances mod combination, but he always mad sure to set-up those positions with offense that elicited reactions, and also to have options from those positions.

Most importantly, his defensive tactics were backed up by solid mechanics and weight distribution that didn't disrupt his flowchart. A solid mix of predetermined movements and adjustments on the fly made him hard to hit and also a constant counter threat.

Feints, double jabs, dipping jabs, body jabs, off the level change. Belal just didn't have a one-size-fits-all counter for the versatility.

100

Jack made sure to not fall into predictable patterns in his fight against Belal, take a look at his jab for example. Not only feinting and attacking head and body, but also attacking from different heights and using it to reposition.

🧵THE PROACTIVE DEFENSE THAT WON JACK DELLA THE TITLE🧵 Jack Della Maddalena might be known as brutal combination puncher and a vicious finisher but he showed slick defensive licks in his title winning performance against Belal Muhammad, let's check some clips:

132

Natalia Silva's reliance on lean backs inside the pocket doesn't mix well with her comfort being pushed back to the fence. Thankfully for her, her speed, mobility and use of feints alleviates a decent part of this issue in the division. And this powerful sidekick also helps!

My most millennial take is that saying "it's giving" without vibes and saying "ahh" instead of "ass" are ruining the world.

Linda McMahon, who, as an executive and owner of WWE, allowed child sexual abuse to take place with her knowledge and tacit consent, including the filming and distribution of films of the abuse. A lawsuit against her is pending. How hard is that to include in every story that mentions her?
