Had a lovely time watching the Margate Pride parade today, so refreshing to see this amount of community groups and individuals participants, compared to commercial floats at other parades. But I'm not gonna lie, this little pup might have been the star of the show. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ #margatepride
A small white dog with dark spots on its head, on a leash in the middle of the road. In the background, a large group of people are lining the street, waiting to watch the parade.

Are you in Kent between the 14th and 16th of August? Want to learn about queer animals? Come along for another round of #QueerNature talks, we have a lot of fun here, and as always, partial proceeds support #MargatePride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ powell-cottonmuseum.org/event/queer-...
A photo of the head, neck and shoulders of a taxidermy argali, which is a type of wild sheep. It is of a male, with large, curled horns. The photo is taken from a low angle, the animal looks as if he is giving the viewer the side eye.A group of taxidermy gorillas in a diorama. A large silverback male stands on two legs on the left, his right arm is slightly off the ground, his left arm reaches overhead to hold onto a branch. A smaller female is on all fours towards the right, she is carrying an infant on her back. Behind the animals is dense jungle foliage and the base of a large tree. Two taxidermy giraffes in a diorama setting. The one on the left is standing with its neck bent downwards, as if to drink. The one on the right is standing tall, eating from branches in the background. In the foreground, medium sized antelope are grazing.A group of about 10 people of different ages and genders, standing with their back towards the viewer. They are looking at a large taxidermy diorama, which shows a mountainous scene inspired by the Himalayas with various animals, including wild sheep, goats, monkeys and bears. The diorama is filling the entire visible back wall of the room. One person stands sideways to the rest of the group looking at their reaction, while the rest appear absorbed by what they are seeing.

Yesterday was a celebration of joy and progress, bringing community together and the galleries to life. I'll leave you with my favourite items from the display, because kids will be kids, wherever and whenever they are. 5/5
Photo from the Zulu Collections display at the Powell-Cotton Museum. It shows two ribbons, that had been used by children to practice their beadwork, and the explanatory panel above it.

I'm certain this is not the most glamorous shot, but wanted to share regardless. Had a marvellous time at the Powell-Cotton Museum's private opening of it's redisplayed Zulu-Collections. 1/5
A group of people viewing Museum exhibits. They are standing in the corner of two walls of displays. In the background there is a wall-height display of African Textiles. The wall to the right, extending towards the foreground has been painted in a peach colour, and is covered in large pictures of Zulu women artisans, together with explanatory panels and a TV screen. Below the pictures and panels is a long, approximately hip-height wooden display case with glass tops and fronts

Throwback to one of my internship projects, which ultimately resulted in the disposal of several hundred gross storage boxes, replaced by shiny new ones. It's been nearly 6 years since then! #museum30 #box
45 small cardboard boxes in different shades stacked on a narrow shelf before being disposed. Each box is closed with a slide-on lid. Accession numbers and other information can be seen written on some of the boxes, but most of it is illegible.

Had a lovely evening at @linneansociety.bsky.social, listening to @aquadan1.bsky.social and generally being nerdy about #QueerNature, queer people in the sciences and why it's important to talk about both. Always great to hear different perspectives, Thank you! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

As part of my Master's project at Uni Edinburgh, I developed "Queer Nature". The guided tour explores LGBTQ+ behaviours in animals, based on the dioramas at the Powell-Cotton Museum. Yesterday was the first time I presented it to a small audience, to prepare for its launch in August 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
3 people standing in front of a large, glass-covered diorama. Most of the photo has been blurred, the tour guide is the only one in focus. She is pointing at an animal in the diorama, the other two are watching closely.

My cousin's pre-teen sons informed me that I have a cool workplace (The Powell-Cotton museum). I tend to agree, but it's nice to have their discerning approval.
Gallery 2 at the Powell-Cotton museum. The background is taken by a large taxidermy diorama, covering an entire wall. The right front corner and left middle plane show some display cases made from dark wood and glass. Most of the image is the gallery's empty floor.

Object cleaning may not be the most glamorous job in #Museums, but seeing the immediate effects is definitely satisfying.
A woman sitting at a desk that has been turned into an object cleaning station by placing extraction tubes, hoovers, cleaning brushes and wet wipes. She is wearing protective goggles, a mask, gloves and an apron, cleaning a small section of a spear.A section of a wooden staff, laid on plastic sheeting. The left side of the staff has been cleaned, on the right the dust deposit is making the staff seem lighter, clearly showing the cleaning progress.
