This is exactly why language matters: “women were given the vote” frames equality as a gift from men, instead of hard won political power extracted through organized resistance. Nobody gave women anything. Women fought, marched, strategized, endured violence, went to prison and died for it.

I dreamt about my mom last night. My mom was badass. She (along with my grandma) escaped the Nazi hordes. Made it to England then the US. Went back to England and became a spy and a resistance fighter. Don’t for one second tell me woman are weak or too emotional.
