All the talk of accelerating infrastructure while Luas Finglas is being pushed out to 2029 despite having full planning permission

The BusConnects Dublin Road project in Galway has had planning permission for over a year. No mention of any funding to build it in #Budget2027 or the press releases. It would have greatly improved bus journey times and cycling safety in Galway. #speirgorm

Newspapers should be required to fact check their columnists. Anti-train columnist Colm McCarthy claims that the only publicly available cost benefit analysis of MetroLink is from a preliminary assessment in 2022. An updated cost benefit analysis was published last week.
Colm McCarthy:
There’s a gaping hole in the case for the €16bn MetroLink

Even the victims are to blame, it seems. Unbelievably tone deaf from the minister who cancelled the reform of the Road Safety Authority, scuppered the speed limit reform and cancelled the red light camera enforcement pilot.

This is what the Climate Act enacted by the Greens does. This is what the Government (and some opposition parties) are slowly undoing.

I love a good bench! I think we need a lot more of them all around the city and that's why I got funding for new benches in my area in this year's budget. If you have ideas for where to put benches in Phibsborough, Glasnevin, Drumcondra, Cabra or Ashtown, let me know in the comments!

Darragh O'Brien and the government letting the NTA take the blame while they ignore press requests. I don't remember seeing Revenue staff wheeled out to announce fuel tax cuts while the ministers took a backseat.
A spokeswoman for the Minister for Transport could not be contacted.

So the government cut excise on fuel to reduce fuel prices but are increasing public transport fares because of inflation. In a cost of living and climate crisis. Make it make sense.

What's in the government's plan to tackle congestion in Dublin? As it turns out, just old plans presented as new ideas. Meanwhile, this government isn't providing any funding to expand public transport services during an energy crisis and is postponing major rail projects.

I visited the dublinbikes depot today to see where the magic happens! As Dublin City Council begins planning for the future of dublinbikes, it was really useful to see how it has been operated and maintained for the last 17 years and the excellent work that JCDecaux has put into it.

Money well spent to allow MetroLink to go to construction without spending years in court while inflation goes further up. The houses can be used to house staff during construction and can be used for public housing afterwards.

You can't "fast-track" a project like MetroLink that has full planning permission and is about to start construction. It doesn't mean anything. What are they going to do? Ask people to dig faster?

e-scooters are used by thousands of people to get around safely within the existing rules. Banning them instead of enforcing existing laws is a lazy response from the Taoiseach and will disproportionately affect people working low paid jobs and experiencing transport poverty.

399 cost rental homes and 326 social homes under construction in Ashtown. Now the bad news. There are huge viability issues with new cost rental schemes like this that need to be addressed. A few months ago, a cost rental housing development in Cabra fell through just before construction started.

e-scooters marketed at 6 year olds? No thanks! We need to tackle illegal e-scooters at the point of sale instead of trying to play catch-up once they're on the road. The law says it's illegal for anyone under 16 to use them on public roads and that they should be limited to 20km/h.

This is one of my biggest bugbears on the Council. While local authorities outside Dublin get up to €78m for road maintenance in a year, Dublin City only gets €40,000 for training. This is why our roads and footpaths are awful.

Apartments or aparthotels? So many sites in Dublin end up as hotels or aparthotels at a time when there's limited land available in the city and we badly need more housing. That's why the Greens on Dublin City Council proposed and successfully doubled the levy charged on new hotels in the city.

It focuses on the external appearance and detracting from the character of the area. A lick of paint on the exterior can keep most derelict buildings off the Derelict Sites Register while it rots internally.

The No.1 thing the government could do to help with dereliction is to change the legal definition of dereliction. What you and I might consider derelict is often not legally considered derelict.

Almost 1 in 10 clamps placed by Dublin City Council are illegally removed. We have a huge problem with illegal parking in Dublin that causes issues for people with disabilities and vulnerable road users. We need culture change and we need better and more effective enforcement.

Having a Luas stop outside is a massive opportunity, not a catastrophe. Public representatives should focus on the fact that the government has shelved this shovel ready project until 2029. That's the real catastrophe.
Progress on €600m Luas Finglas extension could be 'catastrophic' for local youth service
As plans for Luas Finglas continue to move forward, one local youth group feels they have not been properly consultedSocial Democrats Councillor Mary Callaghan said the Finglas Youth Centre have not been contacted about the project’s development for over a year and that there is fear around how its implementation might affect the 400 young people the centre serves. A new Luas stop planned for “right outside their door,” she explained that this has the potential to be “catastrophic” for their service.
